did not like it

I’m sorry but I had to drop this, I got 100 pages in and couldn’t bear it any longer. It’s just so god-damn overwritten. Every page feels like smashing your head into a brick wall of pointless metaphors and introspections. I can’t wait for the world to move on from Sally Rooney’s whole deal of badly written ‘chic-lit’ that people desperately try to pretend is anything more than pretentious Colleen Hoover. She seems like a lovely person though

Marie Dunphy Thank god it wasn’t just me !!!

Happy Reader 2022 Me too, only making it to page 11, sentences with 4 words...not me

Cymru Roberts I think I'm there right now, but in terms of metaphors, I have to look closer but I don't think I noticed any similes at all (which could be ok) and there is no metaphorical or figurative language at all. And as for introspection, there's a lot of interior monologue but I dont see much introspection. I mean everyone thinks, but is everyone introspective?

Ashley Bolton I agree! I got to page 124 and it was so slow, droning on with words that just talk in circles about nothing. So disappointing I was excited to read this but couldn’t get through any longer had to DROP

Morgan McGuire Agree, DNF for me as well. Life is too short to read something that feels like such a slog to get through!

D.C. I'm trying to fight on. I haven't DNF a book in a while. But life is short and there are better books for me to read.

Mehves My god I wanted to kill myself too

Tina Marie OKAY!!! I am ditching it also on page 125. Thank you all for your comment.

message 9: by Laura (new)

Laura Sanctuary Thank god it’s not just me, I’m so incredibly bored, I’m on page 140 and I can’t do it.

Chelsea I couldn’t make it past the first few pages. I don’t understand this style of writing. It hurts my brain.

CanadianReader Chelsea’s “It hurts my brain” resonates!

Colleen I’m on page 75 and really battling I’ve been picking it up and putting it down all week. I’ve come here to read the reviews to see if I should persevere. I think it may be a dnf as can’t stand the short sharp two/three word sentences

message 13: by Sandra (new) - added it

Sandra Miltich It does put me to sleep during my nightly wake-ups!

Peter I got to page 9!

message 15: by elif (new) - rated it 2 stars

elif I got to page 300. It was awful. I'll NEVER trust social media to buy books ever again.

Charlotte Page 206…and I’ve not enjoyed a bit of it. I’m about to give up on my resolve to finish this mess.

message 17: by Dana (new) - rated it 2 stars

Dana Monroe I wish i had stopped, it just got more & more tedious & the end was a joke!

message 18: by Pat (new)

Pat Hollingsworth Well, that's not good! I have one of hers queued up on Audio. If I'm lucky it will put me to sleep!

message 19: by Elli (new) - rated it 2 stars

Elli Blackwell I got to 237 and honestly found 10 pages interesting then it lost me again

message 20: by Della (new) - added it

Della I made the mistake of ordering the hardcover on Amazon earlier today then realised I should’ve read a kindle sample first. I couldn’t even get past the first 2 pages, it’s like I’m reading a draft. The fanfictions I wrote at the ripe age of 13 were written better than this book. Respectfully!

message 21: by Jen (new) - rated it 2 stars

Jen I couldn’t read it so I tried the audio and got to chapter 8-I can’t wait for it to be over!

message 22: by Kati (new) - added it

Kati Floria I have also started this and absolutely hate it so far. I think I need DNF - the writing style is killing me.

message 23: by justina (new)

justina So spot on!!! I have came to conclusion that its me. Dnfed halfway, I just dont enjoy relationships and yaps between people I don't care about. Just not my thing. I need more conflict. I need to feel something, this just bores me, like listening to a strangers conversation on a bus and not having earphones to mute it

message 24: by Micebyliz (new) - added it

Micebyliz I'm with all of you. Page 80. Ugh!!!

message 25: by Kenia (new) - rated it 1 star

Kenia Soto I attempted giving this book a try via both reading and audio and simply could not get past the urge of falling asleep. It was simply blah. Trust me I tried and tried thinking something could would happen that would capture my attention and nope. I made it to chapter 12 which is 63 percent of the book so its safe to say that I tried.

message 26: by Rick (new) - rated it 5 stars

Rick Van dijk Well guys, it’s a slow read. Take the time to enjoy the writing!

Jared I'm listening to the audiobook but i'm having a tough time as well. What really gave me the ick as well was that sex scene with Ivan. Not because of the sex itself - it was depressing and short, and after he came he didn't waste a single thought on making her come as well, so it wasn't good but it wasn't as bad as anything by stephen king - but because of how gross they were afterwards. They didn't wash themselves, he put the used condom on the damn carpet "to throw it away tomorrow" and the next day she just put on her old undies the other way around and declined to take a shower? If she doesn't get a bladder infection I'm kinda impressed

message 28: by Gina (new) - rated it 1 star

Gina Gina I agree with you. I couldn’t finish it either.

message 29: by Alana (new)

Alana Thomson I'm up to page 140 and Peter's section is unreadable, I thought it was just my poor comprehension but it is terribly hard to deciper what parts are dialogue, internal monologue and general commentary on the setting/scene of events. The book is not interesting enough for me to continue, at this rate, I will use it to battle my persistent insomnia.

Louise Simon exactly!!!

message 31: by Cathy (new) - rated it 1 star

Cathy That's exactly how I felt reading this book. I finally put it down around page 100. I just could not go on with it.

message 32: by Danielle (new)

Danielle I only got to page 14

Victoria J Didn't even get that far.

message 34: by alosia (new)

alosia this is literally how i felt 60 pages in

message 35: by Joan (new)

Joan Mcnamara I didn’t even last 100 pages. The audible version may have been worse!!! Hahahababa

message 36: by Samurdha (new)

Samurdha Yay! I got to page 68 and wondered if it was just me. Glad to see it isn't!

message 37: by Twan (new) - rated it 5 stars

Twan Manders Try reading Knausgaard

Valerie Same! I am on page 191 and my husband just asked how my book is going. I told him I hated it, wished I was done and that it was making me depressed. Time to move on.

message 39: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Schettler Glad to see I'm not the only one. I've only made it to page 16. I can't handle not having quotation marks. Is something being said aloud? Is it an inside thought? I don't know because there is no distinction!

Lorena omg, same! couldn't finish it, it was so boring!

message 41: by Ryan (new) - rated it 1 star

Ryan C I made it to page 300. Someone clap for me because wow it only got worse

message 42: by Elena (new)

Elena Luckily I borrowed it from the library. So I didn’t waste my money
