Cooperative Hoops

This document provides instructions for the game "Run the gauntlet". Students are divided into two teams, with one team lining up at one end of the basketball court as runners. The other team lines up on the sides as throwers. On the whistle, a runner attempts to get to the other end while dodging balls thrown by the throwers. If hit, they sit at that spot as a barricade. Teams earn a point for each successful runner. Teams then swap roles once all students have had a turn running. Variations include different runner movements or adjustments to space and numbers. Safety notes ensure adequate space and control of throws.

hold arms out horizontally (demonstrate
this for younger students k-2) and they
are to try and tag the other students
(fish) as they run past.
• Continue playing game until you have 1
student left, this student then becomes
the octopus for the next game.
Variations:
• Replace running with hopping, skipping,
walking and jumping .
• Seaweed can sit or stand on one foot

middle of the playing area. Students
can stand on all four corners of the
boundary and run from one boundary to
another but must pass through the
middle of the play area to get to where
they are going. (for year 3’s place
extra set of cones in the middle of the
play area to represent the play area
they must pass through to before
reaching the other side.
