The semester’s assignments have been based around the idea of preparing us for our real-
world jobs. From driving into the details of our future careers to learning about all the different
opportunities they hold; we gained a better understanding of the job field. Before this assignment
I new I was interested in nursing but not until we drove into all the job opportunities, I never
knew how many nurses there were.
Learning about the psychiatric field of nursing had been done exceedingly early in this
semester when we are one of the first group in class assignments. There I learned about the field
of psychiatric nursing and what the job entailed. A better understanding of the requirements and
pay was also obtained when we explored more into the assignment. From there on it was easy to
figure out what I needed to do. During this semester to gain a better understanding of how to
earn the Bachelor of Science in nursing degree I utilized the veteran’s office for students and
spoke with a few representatives about the course.
During my time in the first-year seminar course we were taught about the resources of the
writing center and many more useful tools. These resources assisted me in completing difficult
assignments and held strong after we all transitioned to online learning. Using the writing center,
I was able to complete the assignments in my seminar class including the thought topic one
assignment. This resource helped strengthen the confidence I had in my writing, the student
tutors helped proofread and correct grammatical errors I would have missed. Using the tutor’s
knowledge, I was able to vastly improve my writing in all of my classes and gained a better
understanding of how to structure my papers. When writing thought topic two we were
challenged to finding skills that we will need to obtain for our future careers, I matched them
with photos that I had taken in the past that I felt contained a meaning for that skill. This was a

good opportunity to explore what part of ourselves we would need to improve to become more
proficient in our future job fields. I was happy to know that more of the qualities I would be
needing one day I had gathered throughout these recent years.
I enjoyed the thought topic one, using knowledge I had gathered throughout the years and
compiling them into what I felt meant the most to me about being a health care worker. It was a
great opportunity to share with my fellow class mates the things I had learned being in the
hospital setting. Doing these assignments helped all of us grow and bounce new ideas and
thoughts off of each other. This led us to learn new skills that we did not know we needed or had
no idea on how to obtain. The project always had a group aspect to them, this made the work feel
like you were never alone in trying to figure it out and complete the assignment. Using each
classmate as a new learning tool helped us all grow together and form a now idea about what we
want to do with our lives, and how we would like to be once we get there.
The video presentation was by far the most involved project. Devoting our time and
effort towards one aspect of ourselves we wanted to make better, this was a challenge for
everyone but one of the most rewarding. I was able to see many of my classmates grow and
evolve through this assignment. It was a great opportunity and push to improve something you
never had time to before. With that, we were able to bounce ideas off of one another and form an
ultimate form of your skill. Being able to grow mentally and emotional with a group of your
fellow students is a great feeling and it helped even more when we had all suddenly been
displaced. Having to venture through this new unfamiliar way of life was easier because of all
the support we still had for one another because of all the time we got to share working together
and brain storming.
