Reflection Essay
After this semester, I have seen an improvement in my writing. I have become more
confident in my writing skills and learned new and valuable ways to convey my points through
words. I sometimes struggle with online courses because connecting with professors or students
is more complex, but I think our class did a great job staying communicative. The discussion
posts always caused me to think in depth about what to say to my classmates. Instead of just
responding with a “good job,” we had to fulfill a word count of 100 or more, which helped me
ponder what to say and develop a more in-depth response. The only feedback I would have is
about the Zoom recordings. I sometimes struggled to know what I needed to do for assignments
because I had a difficult time playing the lecture videos, but the resources in writing would make
up for this.
While my initial goal for this course was to fulfill my last English credit, I also chose this
class over others because I believed it would be the most beneficial for my career endeavors. In
my future profession, which will involve daily interactions with people, whether online or in
person, I appreciate the communication skills I've learned in this course. I now feel more
prepared and confident to embark on my future endeavors, thanks to the learning experience this
course provided. I've come to realize that effective communication is a universal skill, applicable
in any field, be it technology or medicine.
I think the assignment I’m most proud of is my White Paper Packet. I worked hard
researching and reading about Cacti, so I knew what to write about. I also learned a lot during the
process, which made it enjoyable. Before this course, I would have looked at an assignment like
it and dreaded it but doing it has given me a newfound appreciation for research. I also enjoyed
the video presentation we had to make because it took me out of my comfort zone. I don’t like
how I sound over recording, but I wanted to complete the assignment, so I forced myself to step
out of my comfort zone and do it. It was enjoyable eventually, and I liked how my presentation
turned out. I also became a lot more proficient in using PowerPoint because of it.
If I could add any assignment to the course, I would probably add a group project. Group
projects are great ways to get people to communicate and work together. They also help with the
collaboration of ideas, which can spark more creativity, and conflict and resolution because there
is always bound to be a conflict when working in a group with contrasting ideas.
Lastly, if I could edit any assignment, it would probably be my Augmented Reality project. I
struggled to put it together, and I think it would help me go back with more knowledge on the
topic and change some things around. This course benefited me, and I’m glad I took it this
semester.
