Reflection Essay
1. I can see an improvement with my writing throughout the semester. I feel I have become
more comfortable with writing and more confident in my writing abilities. One specific
instance of growth I have noticed from the feedback I have received was in the
Instructions Packet. During this assignment I used many different sequential lists that
could confuse the reader and started almost all the steps with once, when or after. This
made it more difficult to understand so it was pointed out to me to ensure that if
sequential lists were used to make sure they followed the same list. Also, it was suggested
that instead of started each step with these words to start directly with the action. For
example, instead of saying “Once the shower is turned on, get in” you would say “Turn
on the shower and get in”. This was not something I would have thought about but have
noticed in my writing and communication a few times now and so I make sure to be
aware of this issue.,
2. My goal for this class was to improve my writing skills, specifically in a professional
setting. I am in the beginning of my professional career, so I thought it was important to
learn how to properly communicate with my coworkers, peers, and supervisors. I felt that
the materials that we were given in this class helped to improve my professional
communication skills. I liked how we did assignments that helped to build our skills in so
many areas. Like with the Workplace Correspondence assignment that taught us how to
professionally communicate a problem we found with a document and how to
appropriately suggest changes. This is a skill that can be especially helpful in many
fields. I enjoyed all of the lecture videos that were provided for us to help with
assignments. I felt that these were very helpful and gave my further information than just
what the PowerPoints gave. These videos also helped me to understand how to do the
assignments and what was expected from me on each assignment.
3. I am most proud of my White Paper assignment. When it comes to writing I really enjoy
doing research papers. I like to learn more information on topics that I might not have
thought to look at before and I think this gives us the perfect chance to do that. I felt that
the work I did for this assignment was the best I did for the semester. I put in lot of effort
into researching all the areas of the topic and feel very knowledgeful on the topic now. I
also enjoyed the feedback that I received on this assignment. It is so useful to receive
feedback from peers and our instructor because the input from multiple sources helps to
give you information that you could’ve missed without that feedback. Adding all the
perspectives helps to make the most well-rounded version of the paper you can get. I also
like how we had to do editing assignment before we did the assignment ourselves. I felt
that this help us to see what the assignment was and often gave us examples of what we
shouldn’t do during the assignment.
