Scale
4 The student shows that they know the difference between muscular strength and
endurance AND can give examples of each.
3 The student shows that they know the difference between muscular strength and
muscular endurance.
2 The student shows that they know what either muscular strength or muscular endurance
means.
1 Given an example, the student can match whether it is a muscular strength or muscular
endurance activity.
The students learned about muscular strength/endurance the last few weeks of PE class.
They were given examples and practiced both in class to see the differences.
Assessments: Can be given in oral, written or other forms used in class to verify the
understanding of the material. We use the Focused Fitness Curriculum to help in some
assessments.

Key points focused on:
Muscular Endurance: Ability of muscles to repeat a movement many times or hold a position
without stopping to rest. ME develops as a person is able to go beyond 12 repetitions.
Ex: 15 push-ups or being able to carry 12 boxes to another room
Muscular Strength: The ability of a muscle to push or pull with its total force. MS is built by
doing very hard exercises and 8 or less repetitions are not able to be completed.
Ex: 6 reps of heavy bicep curls or being able to lift only 2 heavy bags of leaves

3 The student is be able to identify all 5 intensity levels
2 The student is be able to identify at least 3 of the 5 intensity levels
1 The student is able to identify at least 1 of the 5 intensity levels
5 Intensity levels:
1: sitting-low heart rate no sweating

3: fast walking-heart rate slightly, starting to sweat
4: jogging-heart rate raised to THR (target heart rate), sweating, and uncomfortable to talk
