2. Purpose
This Service Letter gives instructions for the return of worn carbon or damaged heat
      sinks.
Maintenance facilities that replace heat sinks must return the carbon heat sinks to an
applicable Goodrich Distributor or Aircraft Manufacturer. Warranties, guarantees, and the
cost of spare parts can change if the operators do not use the procedures in this policy.
      This Policy:
      - decreases the carbon brake operation costs.
      - makes sure that carbon and parts are available.
      - carefully monitors carbon performance.
      - warrants parts - new or remanufactured - as new.

3. Procedure:
     A. Return the carbon heat sink when the wear indicator pins show that a brake is fully
worn or if it was removed from service for other causes.
     B. Record the data for each brake on the “CARBON BRAKE REMOVAL DATA FORM”
(make copies of the attached form). Each returned heat sink must include a
          “CARBON BRAKE REMOVAL DATA FORM”.
NOTE: Complete data is necessary for possible warranty claim disposition.
     C. Disassemble each brake and remove the carbon heat sink. Keep the carbon disks in
the same related position and location as they were in the brake assembly.
     D. Put the carbon parts in shipping crates that Goodrich supplies, when the crates are
available. You can send the parts in other containers that do not let the parts touch
other parts or hard surfaces (refer to ATA - 300 standards or equivalent).
     E. Data about the shipment is necessary for the Customs Department in each country.
The shipping papers must include the data that follows:
          (1) Part numbers of the parts in the shipment.
          (2) Material identified as:
"8803.30.0010 Civil Aircraft Carbon Brakes, Used"
                               and
                "NMFC Item 11920, Class 100"
          (3) Quantity of containers and quantity of the parts in the shipment.
          (4) The statement: “U.S. MANUFACTURED GOODS BEING RETURNED”
          (5) Value of the disks (10% of the value in the current price list) (for use by the
                Customs Department)
          (6) CARBON BRAKE REMOVAL DATA FORM(S).
     F. Contact one of the Goodrich distributors or the aircraft manufacturer to get a
replacement heat sink. Return worn heat sinks or damaged heat to the distributor or
aircraft manufacturer for credit. Goodrich distributors are:
