PAES 118: 2001 - AGRICULTURAL MACHINERY – FOUR-WHEEL TRACTOR –

SPECIFICATIONS

1. SCOPE

THIS STANDARD OUTLINES THE REQUIREMENTS FOR THE CONSTRUCTION AND


OPERATION OF AGRICULTURAL FOUR-WHEEL TRACTORS. IT APPLIES TO BOTH TWO-
WHEEL DRIVE AND FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE TRACTORS WITH A NET POWER RANGE OF 4
KW TO 400 KW.

THE FOLLOWING NORMATIVE DOCUMENTS ARE ESSENTIAL REFERENCES FOR THIS
STANDARD:

3. PAES 104:2000 - AGRICULTURAL MACHINERY – LOCATION AND METHOD OF OPERATION
OF OPERATOR’S CONTROLS – CONTROL FOR AGRICULTURAL TRACTORS AND
MACHINERY
TESTING PROCEDURES FOR FOUR-WHEEL DRIVE TRACTORS

1. PERFORMANCE TESTING:
o POWER OUTPUT: MEASURE THE ENGINE POWER OUTPUT USING A
DYNAMOMETER. THIS ENSURES THAT THE TRACTOR MEETS THE SPECIFIED
POWER RANGE.
o FUEL CONSUMPTION: EVALUATE FUEL CONSUMPTION UNDER VARIOUS LOAD
CONDITIONS.
o DRAWBAR PULL: ASSESS THE MAXIMUM PULL FORCE EXERTED BY THE
TRACTOR.
o POWER TAKE-OFF (PTO) PERFORMANCE: VERIFY THE PTO SPEED AND TORQUE.
o HYDRAULIC SYSTEM PERFORMANCE: TEST HYDRAULIC LIFT CAPACITY AND
RESPONSE TIME.

2. SAFETY AND STABILITY TESTING:


o ROLLOVER PROTECTION STRUCTURE (ROPS): ENSURE THE TRACTOR HAS A
CERTIFIED ROPS TO PROTECT THE OPERATOR IN CASE OF ROLLOVER.
o BRAKING SYSTEM: EVALUATE BRAKING EFFICIENCY AND STOPPING DISTANCE.
o STEERING SYSTEM: CHECK STEERING RESPONSIVENESS AND STABILITY.
o TRACTION AND STABILITY: ASSESS THE TRACTOR’S ABILITY TO MAINTAIN
STABILITY ON DIFFERENT TERRAINS.

3. EMISSION TESTING:
o MEASURE EXHAUST EMISSIONS (SUCH AS NOX, CO, AND PARTICULATE MATTER)
TO COMPLY WITH ENVIRONMENTAL REGULATIONS.

4. NOISE TESTING:
o DETERMINE NOISE LEVELS DURING OPERATION.
5. FUNCTIONAL TESTING:
o TRANSMISSION: VERIFY GEAR SHIFTING, CLUTCH ENGAGEMENT, AND SPEED
CONTROL.
o PTO ENGAGEMENT: ENSURE SMOOTH ENGAGEMENT AND DISENGAGEMENT.

o EVALUATE COMPONENTS SUCH AS TIRES, BEARINGS, AND ENGINE DURABILITY.
