A. Introduction 60
Minutes Presentation
In this lesson, you will learn the essence of plant propagation,it’s type, and
the materials used in producing new plant, determine the benefits derived
from propagation for plant grower as well as home gardeners(plantitos and
plantitas), the advantage and disadvantage of plant reproduction and the
quenched feelings of the grower.
Nowadays, due to pandemic, community people acknowledge the
value of farmer and their products in agriculture, and for these reason they
were engaged in farming, most especially those who have their own farm,
however even if some do not have enough space for gardening they did
some way to apply their passion in planting one of their skillfulness are the
container gardening and they call themself as “ home gardeners”.
Farmers, plant growers and home gardeners think about how to
accelerate the germination of their seeds and planting materials.
It is good to know that there are several ways of producing planting
materials which is cheap and easy to perform and that is through plant
propagation . Plant propagation is the process which grows new plants from
a variety of sources: , and other plant parts. It can also refer to the man-made
or natural dispersal of seeds.

There are two types of plant propagation, the sexual propagation,

which is the most common and easy way of propagating plants through
seeds; and asexual propagation, which is an artificial method of
propagating plants through which the new plants are produced and
multiplied by using the parts and buds of selected mother plants.
Read the paragraph below.

A plant propagation is the process of increasing the number of

species through reproduction. These is done in two methods; sexual and
asexual means.
Sexual method is the act of reproducing new plant by means of
seeds and pores.

Asexual means of propagation is the technique of perpetuating a

genetically identical plant using cell tissue or organs of the mother plant.

Seeds are typically produced from sexual reproduction within a

species, because genetic recombination has occurred. A plant grown from
seeds may have different characteristics from its parents. The advantages of
sexual propagation are that it may be cheaper and quicker than other
methods; more opportunity to change and develop new variety of plant,
presence of top root system for better anchorage as compared to
marcotted plants.
Asexual propagation has advantages. It may be easier and faster in
some species; may be the only way to perpetuate some cultivars; and it
bypasses the juvenile characteristics of certain species

B. Development 60
minutes Learning Task 1. Answer the following question: Write your answer in a clean
sheet of paper with two to three sentences.

1. What is plant propagation?

2. How does plant propagation be done?
3. What id the difference between sexual and asexual propagation?

A. List at least 3 propagation types you already knew

Learning Task 2. Modified True or False. Write Sexual if the statement is

correct and Asexual if in correct, then write the appropriate word to make
the statement right.
_________1. Asexual propagation is the most common and easy method of
propagating plants.
_________2. The process of increasing the number of species through
reproduction is germination.
_________3. Propagating of plants without the help of sex organs of the
plant is sexual reproduction.
_________4. Sexual method is the act of reproducing new plant by means of
tissue or spores.
_________5. Cuttings, layering and grafting are some way for asexual
reproduction.
C. Engagement 60 Learning Task 1. At this point you are directed to read the discussions on
minutes pages of the learning materials provided for you to understand the
following topics:

1. Why is there a need for plant propagation?

2. What are the materials for sexual and asexual propagation?
3. What are benefits from plant reproduction?

After reading the discussions of the topics, you will do the following learning
tasks:

Learning Task 2: Identify the following statement. Chose only the letter of
the best answer from the box .Write your answers in a clean sheet of paper.
___________1. The process of increasing the number of species through
reproduction.
___________2. An act of reproducing new plant by means of seeds and
spores.
___________3. New plants are produce and multiplied by cutting and
planting parts of the plant
___________4. a part or branch of the tree is introduced into the soil to
develop roots while being fed by the parent plant..
___________5. Refers to artificial method of propagating plants.
___________6. The stems are introduced to take roots while still attached to
the mother plant.
___________7. Stem of one plant called the scion is inserted into the root
stock of another plant.
___________8. Method which makes use of a single bud as the scion instead
of the stem bearing several buds.
___________9. Scion is made to unite with the root stock while growing on
their own root systems.
___________10. are thickened stems, bearing buds or nodelike scars.

D. Assimilation 45 There are some benefits of propagation for farmer, plant grower and
minutes home gardeners. First, you can get plants cheaply and in large numbers,
and secondly, you have the self-satisfaction of starting and
nurturing plants from their beginnings.
It is a great skill to have because you can make lots of new plants for your
garden rather than having to purchase them from a nursery (saving you
money). It’s also nice to propagate plants and give them to friends and
family as presents.

Plant propagation also just gives you great satisfaction in knowing you’ve
played a part in creating those plants, which is probably one of the most
rewarding aspects of gardening.

TLearning Task 1: Write at least five benefits derived from plant propagation.

Learning Task 2: Answer the following questions:

1. What are the importance of plant reproduction?
2. What are the benefits from plant propagation?

After learning the importance and benefits of plant propagation, you are
going perform plant reproduction.
Learning Task 3. Perform plant propagation
Demonstrate the different methods pf asexaul plant propagation. Using the
following materials:
* Rootstock of mango
* Scion of mango
* Grafting knife
* Budding tape or other improvised wrapping material

Create your own vlog while performing asexual propagation. You can
choose from cutting, layering, marcotting, grafting, budding and inarching.
Please be careful while doing the task, you can call a friend or fam
member to help you. Post your vlog in our group chat.
