Short Notice is the perfect last minute go-to gift for every
baby.

Short Notice is a classic cardigan for any boy or girl.

This is knit top down, with buttons down the side and the
choice of long or short sleeves.

Yarn – Madelinetosh Chunky


Needle – 9 us (5.50 mm) or what you need to get gauge
Gauge – 16.0 stitches = 4 inches
Yardage – 225(250,300,350,400,450,500)
Sizes – Newborn(3 months,6 months,9-12 months,
12-24 months,2-3 years,4-6 years)
Chest – 15 ½”(18”,18 ½”,20”,22 ½”,24”,25 ½”)
Notions – 6 or more buttons, 1” size

WS - Wrong side YO - Yarn over Sm- Slip marker Pm - Place marker SSK – Slip, slip, knit together
RS - Right side K2tog- Knit two stitches together Rm – Remove marker Kfb - Knit into the front and back of the stitch
Note – I wrote the pattern to be knit in a single color, but this is such a blank canvas, you can add stripes

Cast on 40(46,48,54,56,58,60) stitches, using a long tail cast on

Row 4: (RS) (Buttonhole Row) Knit 2, YO, K2tog, knit to the end, and the same time, increase 4 stitches, using a Kfb,
evenly spaced 44(50,52,58,60,62,64) stitches
Row 5: (WS) Knit 4, Pm, purl 6(6,6,8,8,8,8)(sleeve), Pm, purl 14(17,18,19,20,21,22)(back), Pm, purl
6(6,6,8,8,8,8)(sleeve), Pm, purl 10(13,14,15,16,17,18)(front), Pm, knit 4

Row 6:(RS) Knit 4, Sm, Kfb, knit to 1 stitch before the next marker, (Kfb, Sm, Kfb, knit until you have 1 stitch before the

Divide for the sleeves


Note – Continue working a buttonhole row, every 4th right side row, like this: Knit 2, YO, K2tog, knit to the end
Row 12: (RS) Knit 4, Rm, knit across the front, Rm, slip the 24(26,28,32,34,36,38) sleeve stitches onto a piece of scrap
yarn, Rm, knit across the back, Rm, slip the sleeve 24(26,28,32,34,36,38) stitches onto a piece of scrap
yarn, Rm, knit to the end 68(78,84,90,96,102,108) stitches
Row 13: (WS) Knit 4, purl to the last 4 stitches, knit 4
Row 14: (RS) Knit to the end
Repeat rows 13 and 14 until the body of the sweater measures 4 ½”(5”,5 ½”,6 ½”,7”,8”,10”) inches from the underarm

Row 16: (RS) Knit to the end
Work rows 15 and 16, 2(2,2,3,3,3,3) times total
Bind off knit wise.

Sleeves
Note - Work each sleeve separately, in the round and place a start of round marker 24(26,28,32,34,36,38) stitches
Leave a 6” tail, so you can sew close the hole under each arm
Short Sleeves
Round 1: Knit to the end
Work round 1, 3(3,4,4,4,5,5) times total
Go to the edging section

Long Sleeves
Round 1: Knit to the end
Repeat round for 1”

Round 2: Knit 1, K2tog, knit to the last 3 stitches, SSK, knit 1

Work rounds 1 and 2, 2(2,2,2,2,3,3) times total 20(22,24,28,30,30,32) stitches


Repeat round 1, until the sleeve measures 4”(4 ½”,5”,6”,6 ½”,7 ½”,9 ½”)inches, from the under arm, or to desired
length.

Edging
Round 3: Purl to the end
Round 4: Knit to the end
Work rounds 3 and 4, 2(2,2,3,3,3,3) times total
Bind off purl wise.

Repeat as worked for the 2nd sleeve

Finishing
Weave in your end, sew the buttons on, block and enjoy!
