EXTENDEDED RANGE FORECAST FOR JHARKHAND
(Current weather status & outlook for next two weeks from 30th August, 2024 – 12th
September, 2024)
1. Main synoptic features that affected the weather of the state of Jharkhand
(22nd August, 2024 – 28th August, 2024):
The Low Pressure Area that formed on 16.08.24 over Northwest Bay of Bengal moved nearly North-
northwestwards and observed over North Bangladesh on 22.08.24. Thereafter, it moved nearly
westwards and lay over northern part of West Bengal and adjoining area of Northeast Jharkhand.
On 23.08.24, continuing to move westwards across Northwest Jharkhand, it intensified into well marked
Low over southeast Uttar Pradesh and adjoining Northeast Madhya Pradesh on 24.08.24.It continued to
move in same direction away from Jharkhand state .
Under the influence of upper air cyclonic circulation over south Bangladesh and neighborhood
extending up to mid tropospheric level, another Low Pressure Area formed over the same region at
11:30 Hrs IST on 25.08.24.It moved nearly west-northwestwards and become more marked over
Gangetic West Bengal and persisted over the same region on 26.08.24. Moving further in the same
direction, it lay over Northwest Jharkhand and neighborhood on 27.08.24. It moved further,
northwestward reached southeast Utter Pradesh and became less marked on the same day.
Eastern end of monsoon trough at mean sea level was nearly at its normal position during most part of
the past week and passed across the state of Jharkhand
Under the influence of above systems, fairly wide spread to wide spread, light to moderate
rainfall occurred during the past week over the state of Jharkhand. Isolated heavy to very heavy rainfall
accompanied with thunder/lightening also occurred throughout the last week over the state.
2. Weekly Rainfall Scenario (23rd August, 2024 – 29th August, 2024):
Cumulatively, the weekly realized rainfall was 93.6 mm (Departure: +67%) which falls in Large
Excess category.

3. Seasonal Rainfall Scenario (01st June, 2024 to 29th August, 2024): During this period, 17
districts received normal rainfall, 01 districts received excess rainfall and 06 districts received deficient.
Cumulatively, seasonal rainfall was Normal (Departure -09%) over the state.
4. Temperature during past week:
Maximum temperature was observed normal to above normal during the past week. It
remained in the range (25-37) °C over the state.
Minimum temperature was also observed normal to above normal during the past week.
It was observed in the range of (22-27) °C over the state.
5. Chief synoptic conditions as on 29th August, 2024:
Under the influence of a cyclonic circulation over eastcentral Bay of Bengal & neighbourhood, a
Low Pressure Area formed over central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal at 0830 hours IST of
today, the 29th August, 2024.It is likely to move westnorthwestwards and become more marked
over westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal by 30th August. Thereafter, while
moving towards north Andhra Pradesh and adjoining south Odisha coasts, it is likely to intensify
into a Depression over westcentral and adjoining northwest Bay of Bengal during subsequent 2
days.
The Monsoon trough at mean sea level now passes through centre of deep depression over
Saurashtra & Kutch, Udaipur Dabok, Shivpuri, Sidhi, Ambikapur, Puri and thence southeastwards
to low pressure area over central and adjoining north Bay of Bengal.
6. Forecast for next two weeks:
Under the influence of the present synoptic features, dynamical scenario and model guidance –
(i) Rainfall forecast for week 1 (30th August, 2024 – 05th September, 2024) and
Week 2 (06th September, 2024 – 12th September, 2024):
Week-1:- Light to moderate rainfall is likely to occur at few places during this week over
the state. Cumulatively, below normal rain is predicted for this weak over the state.
Week-2:- In this week, cumulatively normal rainfall is expected over the most part state
of Jharkhand.
(ii) Maximum Temperature forecast for week 1 (30th August, 2024 – 05th
September, 2024) and Week 2 (06th September, 2024 – 12th September, 2024):
Week 1:- Normal to above normal maximum temperature is very likely to be
observed over most parts of the state. It may lie in the range (29-35) °C during the
week.
Week-2:- Normal maximum temperature is likely to be observed over most parts
of the state. It may lie in the range (29-33) °C during the week.
(iii) Minimum Temperature forecast for week (30th August, 2024 – 05th September,
2024) and Week 2 (06th September, 2024 – 12th September, 2024):
Week-1 : Normal to above normal minimum temperature is likely to be observed
over most parts of the state. It may lie in the range (23-27) °C.
Week 2: Normal minimum temperature is likely to be observed over most parts of
the state. It may lie in the range (22-25) °C.
