MRT OF 15 MW VISAKHAPATNAM TURBINE
AT
TTL PEENYA BANGALORE
MRT (Mechanical Run Test) is a no load test to check following parameters at Rated RPM of Turbine:-
Vibration of all bearings
Temperature of all bearings
Noise level at four side of turbine from the distance of minimum 1 m.
And following trip logics:
Mechanical Over Speed trip
Emergency Trip
Manual trip
Lube oil pressure low trip
Solenoid trip
Solenoid ESV trip
1. On 23nd June reached TTL workshop.
Before starting rolling of turbine on Barring Gear we have checked Oil Pressure and found:-
Control oil Pressure - 28 kg/cm2,
Lube oil Pressure – 1.85 kg/cm2
Control Oil Pump & Pressure Gauge Lube Oil Pressure Gauge
2. Barring Gear started and Turbine Rolled at 50 RPM, Vibration observation are as follows:
Location ACTIVE END NON ACTIVE END
Axial -3.3 to -3.7 -1.3 to -1.5
Location X AXIS Y AXIS
Rotor Input End 0.3 to 0.4 0.3
Rotor Output End 0.4 to 0.5 0.5
Pinion Input End 0.9 to 1.0 0.7 to 0.8
Pinion Output End 1.1 to 1.2 1.0 to 1.2
Gear Input End 0.0 to 0.2 0.0 to 0.2
Gear Output End 0.0 0.0
Vibration Monitoring System
3. After rolling 3 hrs on barring Gear, Steam ( 200 deg C , 15 kg/cm2) Inlet valve open by using Woodward
505 Governor and turbine rolled up to 500 RPM
4. Due to sudden vacuum drop turbine was tripped and due to unavailability of steam MRT was postponed to
next day.
5. On 24th Morning 7:30 AM MRT started and turbine rolled at 50 RPM using barring gear, Control oil and
Lube oil Pressure Checked and values as follows:
Control oil Pressure - 28 kg/cm2,
Lube oil Pressure – 2 kg/cm2
Governor Screen Display
6. After rolling 2 hrs on barring gear steam Inlet valve opened, Steam parameter-200 deg C , 15 kg/cm2 and
turbine rolled at 500 RPM
7. Bearing temperature and Vibration checked and found within limit.
8. Turbine RPM increased up to 4000 RPM by giving command through Woodward Governor 505 at each 500
intervals. At 4000 RPM HP valve opening was 2.5 %.
Turbine Overview at 4420 RPM
9. To avoid critical speed which falls between 4200 to 5700 RPM , command given through governor from
4000 to 6000 RPM at once.
10. At 6800 RPM Main oil pump picked up and AOP stopped. At this RPM Main oil pump delivery pressure
was 3 kg/cm2 .
11. At 8402 RPM Turbine tripped due to Mechanical over speed trip, which should be between 9751 to 9930
RPM. Then mechanical trip knob calibrated to achieve rated Over speed trip, After calibration also it was
tripped at 9400 RPM, then again knob calibration done and rated over speed trip achieved at 9802 RPM.
12. Turbine was run at Rated speed (8946 RPM) for 30 minutes, Pressure, Temperature and oil pressure
parameter was recorded at every 10 min. Interval, report is enclosed. Turbine was not run for long time at
rated RPM due to unavailability of desired steam quality.
13. At rated RPM sound level checked at all four sides and found within limit (i.e. < 90db), report is enclosed.
Noise level meter
14. At rated RPM casing expansion found maximum 3.42 mm.
15. Following trip logics checked and found satisfactory
1) Mechanical Over Speed trip
2) Emergency Trip
3) Manual trip
4) Lube oil pressure low trip
5) Solenoid trip
6) Solenoid ESV trip
TURBINE OVERVIEW
NOTE- Lube Oil pipe line found leakage at welding and same informed to TTL to rectify the problem.
