A General Requirements

During application of lining by a spinning machine, the entire quantity of

mortar required for completion of the lining of the section of pipe, is placed 01-SAMSS-005,
A1
without interruption. Sec. III (B)
(AWWA C205, Para. 4.4.4.2).

After the cement mortar has been distributed to a uniform thickness, the
01-SAMSS-005,
A2 rotation is increased to produce a dense mortar with a smooth surface.
Sec. III (B)
(AWWA C205, Para. 4.4.4.3).

for sleeved pipe there shall be no cutback, the cement mortar lining shall 01-SAMSS-005,
A3
be flush with the end of pipe. Para 4.4.2.1

For pipe that has been specifically designed for but welding the cement
01-SAMSS-005,
A4 mortar lining shall be cut back of min of 10mm to a max of 25 mm from
Para 4.4.2.2
the end of pipe

Surplus water on the applied lining is removed by air blowing or by tilting

01-SAMSS-005,
A5 of the pipe.
Sec. III (B)
(AWWA C205, Para. 4.4.4.4).
Lining thickness requirements are maintained by mechanical-end
01-SAMSS-005,
A6 retaining rings and verified by physical measurements.
Sec. III (B)
(AWWA C205, Para. 4.4.2).

The application of cement-mortar lining to miters, angles, bends,

reducers, and other special sections, is accomplished by mechanical
01-SAMSS-005,
A7 placement, pneumatic placement, or hand application and finished to

(AWWA C205, Para. 4.4.5.1).

A set of at least two standard test cylinders, 6" dia. (150 mm) x 12" (300
01-SAMSS-005,
A8 mm) in length, is made each day from the cement-mortar lining for each

shift. (AWWA C205, Para. 5.1.1).

Cement-mortar test cylinders attains a minimum compressive strength of

01-SAMSS-005,
A9 4,500 psi (31 MPa) in 28 days or at the time of shipment, if less than 28

days. (AWWA C205, Para. 5.1.5).

The avg. of any 10 consecutive strength tests of cylinders representing

each cement-mortar mix is ≥ the specified strength, and not greater than
20% of the strength tests shall have values less than the specified
01-SAMSS-005,
A10 strength.
Sec. III (B)
NOTE: No cylinder test result shall be less than 80 percent of the
specified strength.
(AWWA C205, Para. 5.1.5).

The tests shown in Table 1 are performed prior to, and during lining. This

testing and the acceptance criteria.
