Materials
• 3.5mm Crochet Hook
• 2.5mm Crochet Hook
• Approximately 300m of DK weight in White
• Approximately 25m of DK weight yarn per row in any colour (32
number of colours needed)
• Tapestry needle
• Scissors
• Stitch Markers

Abbreviations
• CH – Chain
• SS – Slip Stitch
• SC – Single crochet
• SC Inc – Single Crochet Increase
• DC – Double Crochet
• DC Inc – Double Crochet Increase
• 3 DC Cluster– Three Double Crochet’s in the same space.
• BLO – Back loop Only
• FO – Fasten off
• Sts – Stitches
• * – Repeat sequence to end of round
• [ ] – Repeat inside brackets for number of times stated.

Notes
• Finished dimensions: Approx. 21 inches (width) x 17 inches (height
not including strap)
• Gauge: 20 stitches and 24 rows = 4 inches or 10 cm in single crochet
• Gauge: 6 DC Cluster stitches and 10 rows = 4 inches or 10 cm in
Granny stripes
• This pattern uses American crochet terminology.
• The number in brackets confirms the number of stitches in each
round.
• For this pattern I used Hobbii Rainbow Cotton in White and various
other colours.

Pattern
Base:
Using 3.5mm crochet hook, Ch 19.

Row 1: Starting in the 2nd Ch from the hook: SC 18, Ch 1 and turn (18)

Rows 2 – 78: SC 18, Ch 1 and turn (18)

Note: for the next row you will be working around the entire rectangle of the
base.

Row 79: SC 18, SC 78 down the side of the base (placing 1 SC into the side of
each row), SC 18 along the other side of the starting Ch, SC 78 up the other
side of the base (placing 1 SC into the side of each row), SS to the first stitch
(192)

Body:
Change to 2.5mm crochet hook.

Note: until round 36, you will be working the Granny Stripes – changing
colour every round, start the first round in white. You can order you colours
in any way you like and will be crocheting into the CH spaces only from
round 2 onward.

Note: Round 1 is worked in the back loop only.

Round 1: [in white] CH 3 (counts as 1 DC), DC Inc into the same stitch, skip
the next 2 stitches *3 DC Cluster, skip the next 2 stitches – repeat from *
until end. SS to top of CH 3 when back to the start of the round. Fasten off
white yarn.

Rounds 2 - 33: Reattach next colour yarn into any of the CH Spaces, CH 3
(counts as 1 DC), DC Inc into the same space, place a 3 DC Cluster in each CH
space. SS to top of CH 3 when back to the start of the round and fasten off.

Re-attach white yarn, continuing crocheting in white yarn only.

Round 34: Reattach white colour yarn into any of the CH Spaces, CH 3
(counts as 1 DC), DC Inc into the same space, place a 3 DC Cluster in each CH
space. SS to top of CH 3 when back to the start of the round.

Rounds 35 – 36: CH 3 (counts as 1 DC), DC Inc into the space directly below,
place a 3 DC Cluster in each CH space. SS to top of CH 3.

At this point the body of your bag should measure approximately 12.5 inches

Change back to 3.5mm hook.

Rounds 37 -38: CH 2 (counts as 1 HDC), Place 1 HDC in each stitch around. SS


to top of CH 2 when back at the start of the round (192)

Continue to work in a spiral for all remaining rounds. For round 39 only –
Ch 1 at the start of the round – this counts as your first SC.

Row 39 - 43: SC 192 (192)

At the end of round 43, continue crocheting until you reach the edge/side of
the bag, place a stitch marker, this is the new end of round 43.

Straps:
The straps will be approximately 6 inches from the side of the bag. Before
the next round I recommend placing stitch markers to indicate where your
straps will be placed. This will ensure they are lined up before you start.

Place 1 stitch marker in the following stitches of the next round:

32nd stitch, 66th stitch, 129th stitch, 162nd stitch.

You can now adjust your stitch markers if straps are not positioned equally.
Proceed to the next round when you are happy with the placement of your
straps.

Round 44: SC 31(or until the stitch before the first stitch marker), CH 120,
make sure the CH is not twisted and skip the next 34 stitches (or until the
stitch after the next stitch marker), SC 62 (or until the stitch before the next
stitch marker), CH 120, make sure the CH is not twisted and skip the next 34
stitches (or until the stitch after the next stitch marker), SC 31 (364 incl
CH’s)

Note: for the next 5 rounds you will skip the stitch immediately before and
immediately after the straps.

Round 45: SC 30, Skip the next stitch, place 1 SC in the next 120 CH sts, Skip
the next stitch, SC 60, Skip the next stitch, place 1 SC in the next 120 CH sts,
Skip the next stitch, SC 30 (360)

Round 46: SC 29, Skip the next stitch, SC 120, Skip the next stitch, SC 58,
Skip the next stitch, SC 120, Skip the next stitch, SC 29 (356)

Round 47: SC 28, Skip the next stitch, SC 120, Skip the next stitch, SC 56,
Skip the next stitch, SC 120, Skip the next stitch, SC 28 (352)

Round 48: SC 27, Skip the next stitch, SC 120, Skip the next stitch, SC 54,
Skip the next stitch, SC 120, Skip the next stitch, SC 27 (348)

Rounds 49: SC 26, Skip the next stitch, SC 120, Skip the next stitch, SC 52,
Skip the next stitch, SC 120, Skip the next stitch, SC 26 (344)

Round 50: SC 25, Skip the next stitch, SC 120, Skip the next stitch, SC 50,
Skip the next stitch, SC 120, Skip the next stitch, SC 25 (340)

Round 51: SC 24, Skip the next stitch, SC 120, Skip the next stitch, SC 48,
Skip the next stitch, SC 120, Skip the next stitch, SC 24 (336)

FO and weave in ends.

Finishing the crochet straps:


Re-attach the yarn to the first unworked stitch of round 44.

SS 34, continue slip stitching up the chain side of the handle, SS 120 until
you get back to the start. SS to the first SS and FO.

Re-attach yarn here

Repeat on the other side.
