Characteristics:
The main practical function of a hat is protection from the scorching sun.
It is very light (the hat is up to 120 grams), keeps its shape well, which is very important for a brimmed hat.
The raffia fiber is obtained from the raffia (raphia) paper yarn tree and it is an environmentally friendly, safe material
A product, made of raffia, can be easily folded into a suitcase and easily ironed, but only inside out , and after the rain it can be
dried with a hairdryer.
Size: 56 cm; for sizes 58, 54 and 52 cm separate recommendations are given.
The hat is crocheted in a spiral. It's easy and quick.

How can you determine your size?
You can use a tape measure (or a length of string that you will have to hold up to a tape measure) to determine the length. Place
the string or tape around your head about 1/8" above your ear, across the mid-forehead, completely circling your head. Hold the
tape firmly, but not too tightly. Basically you need to measure your head exactly where the hat will sit.
Overall Pattern Notes:
• Pattern is worked in the round with the RS facing throughout. Rounds are spirals and therefore are not joined at the end of each.
• Stitches are intended to be worked tightly. If in doubt, use a smaller hook to achieve tighter tension. The cCircle is measured
several rounds in to ensure gauge.
• Place marker in first stitch of round and move as each round is worked. This is critical in keeping
track of the beginning/end of each round.
Gauge:
7 rows of a circle in a spiral = 9 cm in diameter= 3 1\2”.
For work you will need:
* about 120-130 grams of raffia yarn (100% cellulose ); https://www.etsy.com/listing/694527688
* a marker to indicate the beginning of a row (can be replaced with a clip);
* a 3- 4mm hook to strengthen the
brim: https://www.etsy.com/shop/bg7day?ref=seller-platform-mcnav&sec-
tion_id=26323485
* fishing line (width 2-3 mm) about 1 m long or Horsehair, Regiline-used to
give and maintain the shape https://www.etsy.com/listing/694527688
* measuring tape for measurements.
For crocheting, I use raffia from brands such as paper yarn made in Turkey
Single Crochet (SC)
Insert the hook into the next stitch. Put the tip of the hook under both of the loops at the top of the stitch. Bring the yarn
over the hook, from back to front, and pull a loop of yarn through the stitch. You will now have two loops on the hook.
Bring the yarn over the hook again, and pull the yarn through both loops on the hook. You will now have one loop left
on the hook. Great job! You have now completed a single crochet (SC) stitch.
Single Crochet Increase= 2 sc in next St (2Sc in 1).
Shaping is done by increasing, which adds stitches to make the crocheted piece wider, or decreasing, which subtracts stitches to
make the piece narrower.

Crocheting the crown is over.
Be sure to try on the a hat.
If the depth is not enough, then crochet more rows without increments.
HOW TO RESHAPE A HAT WITH A STEAMER
1. Steam the area of your hat that needs to be reshaped
2. Make sure you can feel the material softening
3. Use your hands to push out the dents or straighten the brim
4. Let the hat cool
Fixing your hat's crushed sections is the most straightforward with a steamer.
Let the steam envelope the hat section by section and knead the areas into shape after the
steam has made them softer and more pliable. Avoid letting the hat get too wet. If this starts
to happen, let it dry out and take another pass at it. The crown of the hat is the portion that
sits on top of the head above the brim. Most fedoras have a teardrop-shaped crown formed
by indentations on the sides of the crown called dents. The deeper the indentations, the
sharper the "taper" of the hat.
Height 10/10,5/11 cm respectively for size 54-55/56-57/58-59.
HAT BRIM:
We start crocheting the brim with a preparatory series of semi-columns, this will strengthen the edge of the crown and add rigidity
to the hat. After, we crochet semi-columns for the back half of
the columns of the previous row. After that, we begin to crochet
the brim. We crochet the first row of the brim for the half-
column loops and the front half column of the columns without
crocheting the last row of the crown (the photo uses a contrast
thread for clarity), the other rows are crocheted as usual.
Remember that it is better to crochet the brim a little bit firmer,
so that the brim is more rigid and shaped.

I advise to sew a cotton tape inside the hat for
more convenience and comfort. The forehead
sweats and in this case, the tape is easier to
wash. It is necessary to steam and decorate it.

10 without increments
11 th row without increments. To enhance the brim, draw a fishing line. Before joining the
ends, lock them over the candles or the thermoglue ; iron the row.
A quick tip for adding wire to the brim: When you’re almost done with round 11, lay the
hat brim flat on a table and smooth it out. You don’t want it to be stretched around the
wire and you don’t want it to be scrunched up either. Then when you think you have it
about right, tape the wire together (don’t cut it!) and try the hat on to see what the brim
looks like. If it’s too wavy, you likely have too much wire in there. Try removing an inch,
tape and try it on again. I repeat this until I like the way it looks before finishing.
Leave 5-6 cm of the fishing line, trim the rest, once again
steam and flatten the brim, fasten the tip of the fishing
line, and tie up with columns without a throwing on.
Make a decorative row with semi-columns, cut
and hide the thread. Please note that I finish the row with
a needle, skipping 1 loop into the needle into the second. Thread the tail of the thread into the inside of
the newly connected row. Stretch its 4-5 cm and cut.
I advise to sew a cotton tape inside the hat for more convenience and comfort. When the forehead
sweats, the tape is easier to wash.
It is necessary to steam and decorate it.

Stretch its 4-5 cm and cut.
You have finished the hat.
To make the hat have a solid shape, you can additionally starch it.
100-150 ml of water - 1 teaspoon of potato starch (without additives), mix all this,
then add to the pan and heat over low heat, stirring thoroughly, without bringing to
a boil. When the mixture has cooled, use a sponge to apply the starch to the hat.
After that, it must be molded to the desired shape or pulled on a bottle . And dry
the hat.
You can steam it using ordinary 3-liter jars: Turn The Jar Upside
Down, Cover With A Terry Towel On Top, Straighten The Folds Of The Towel (The Hat Should Fit Lightly , Not
Too Tight, Otherwise It Might Stretch A Little) And Steam With An Iron (Temperature According To The Manu-
facturer Of The Yarn Is Up To 150*C) To The Desired Result , The Brim Can Be Ironed Inside Out (Remember
That The Yarn Can Drag). If Your Hat Is A Little Bit Small, You Can Steam It Off With An Iron And While It Is
Damp, Put It On Your Head, It Will Stretch, Or Pull It Additionally With Your Hands. To Steam The Brim, Put The
Hat With The Bottom Up. Strip Or Iron It So That The Brim Becomes Flat. DON'T BE AFRAID To Pull Your Hat
With Your Hands One More Time. Cool and dry it, and then decorate: thread the cord into the loop (if you cro-
cheted them), and the tape can be fastened in several places with the help of thread and needle, several stitches be-
tween the loops of the posts and it's READY.

Some recommendations:
A hat made of raffia is the solution to all problems.
It can be folded and perfectly steamed by an ordinary iron. You don't have an iron? No problem! Spray with water and put it on.
And let's go to the sea! It will form to your head and will be like new. The hat looks beautiful and unique on you!
Cleaning
Dirty? DO NOT worry, you can wash it with the usual soap and sponge. Dilute the liquid detergent in water and using the sponge,
rub the surface. Soap should also be washed off with a sponge. Dry it flat on a horizontal surface. Follow the care instruction and
instructions for storage, and the product will last you much longer than you think.
