! NOTES & TECHNIQUES
• Sweater is worked seamlessly and in the round from the top down. The striped yoke is worked; short
rows are worked to raise the back; then the sleeves and body are separated and worked top to
bottom.
• When working the striped yoke, carry color not in use up inside of yoke.
• Use your chosen method of working short rows; if you’re new to short rows, there are many online
videos to help you, such as https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=I3BrIMIdO-c from Purl Soho.
• The directions are given for the smallest size with larger sizes in parentheses. When one number is
given, it applies to all sizes.

SWEATER

With circular needle two sizes smaller than gauge needle and CC, cast on 120 (120, 120, 120, 128) (128, 136,
136, 136) sts. Join for working in the round, taking care not to twist stitches. Place marker Color A for BOR.

Work Rnd 1 a total of 8 times.

Change to gauge needle. Knit one round, increasing to 130 (146, 150, 158, 162) (174, 182, 202, 214) sts as
follows:

Size A: K6, (M1, k12) 9x, M1, k6.

Size B: K2, (M1, k5) 8x, (M1, k4) 9x, (M1, k5) 8x, M1, k2.

To recap: the Color B markers are where the raglan increases will be made, and the Color C markers denote
where the garter band is worked down the center of the front and of the back. The Color A marker is the
beginning of the round.

Work Rnds 1-4 until there are a total of 290 (306, 326, 342, 386) (414, 454, 490, 526) sts on the needle. You will
have 58 (60, 64, 66, 76) (80, 88, 94, 100) sts for each sleeve, and 87 (93, 99, 105, 117) (127, 139, 151, 163) sts for
the front and the back.

You will now stop increasing and work even on the number of stitches for your size until the yoke depth
measures 8 (8.5, 9, 9.5, 9.5) (10.5, 11, 11.5, 12.5)”, maintaining the two-color stripe pattern and the garter bands
as established. End with a Rnd 2 or 4.

FIT TIP: Put yoke sts on waste yarn, and try on to see if the yoke is the right length for you.

Break CC and continue in MC.

Short Rows
• Short rows are worked back and forth around the Center Back Marker.
• If your gauge tends to change between working flat and working in the round, adjust your needle size
for the short row section.
• Garter bands are knit every row.
• Remember to change back to your gauge needle when short row section is finished.

Center Back Marker Placement

*Knit to marker Color B, sm. Rep from * two more times, k43 (46, 49, 52, 58) (63, 69, 75, 81), pm Color D (CBM).

Work RS and WS of Row 2 a total of 6 (6, 6, 6, 8) (8, 8, 8, 8) more times.
Knit to BOR. Knit one round, picking up wraps as you come to them and removing the CBM.

DIVIDE SLEEVES AND BODY

Place 58 (60, 64, 66, 76) (80, 88, 94, 100) sleeve sts on waste yarn, cast on 12 (12, 12, 12, 12) (14, 14, 14, 14)

work across Back sts to BOR marker: 198 (210, 222, 234, 258) (282, 306, 330, 354) sts on the needle.

Keeping continuity of garter bands on Front and Back, work even until body measures 11” from underarm, or
desired length.

FIT TIP: Put body sts on waste yarn and try on to see if the body is the right length for you. Work a few more
rounds, if necessary, to bring the body to the correct length before working the ribbing.
3
Bottom body ribbing
Change to circular needle two sizes smaller than gauge needle.
Rnd 1: *K1, p1. Rep from * to end of rnd.
Work Rnd 1 until ribbing measures 2”. Bind off in pattern.

Sleeves (make two)

Transfer sleeve sts to gauge needle for working small circumferences. Beginning at center of underarm sts, with
MC, pick up and knit 6 (6, 6, 6, 6) (7, 7, 7, 7) sts, knit across sleeve sts, pick up and knit 6 (6, 6, 6, 6) (7, 7, 7, 7) sts:
70 (72, 76, 78, 88) (94, 102, 108, 114) sts. Pm for BOR.

Work 7 rnds even.

Decrease round
K1, k2tog, knit to 1 st before marker, ssk, k1.
Work 15 (13, 11, 13, 9) (8, 7, 6, 6) rnds.

Work these rnds a total of 8 (9, 10, 9, 13) (15, 17, 19, 19) times: 54 (54, 56, 60, 62) (64, 68, 70, 76) sts. Work even
until sleeve measures 17 (17, 17, 17, 17) (18, 18, 18, 18)” from underarm or 2” less than desired length.

FIT TIP: Try on sweater to see if the sleeve is the right length for you. Work a few more rounds, if necessary, to
bring the sleeve to the correct length before working the ribbing.

Bottom sleeve ribbing

Change to needle two sizes smaller than gauge needle for working small circumferences.
Rnd 1: *K1, p1. Rep from * to end of rnd.
Work Rnd 1 until ribbing measures 2”. Bind off in pattern.

FINISHING
Weave in loose ends. Block to finished measurements.
