HIGHLAND COW

Crochet Pattern

Skill level: Advanced Beginner Weekend Project

Materials and Tools:


• Yarn 280m/ 100g For the highland cow colors: bronze and brown (Suggestion:
Yarn Art Adore)
• Yarn 210m/ 100g For the nose and horns, colour: cream white and black
(Suggestion: Buvemu Classica Soft)
• Crochet hook: 2.0 mm (For the horns) and 3.0 mm
• Tapestry needle
• Safet Eyes 8mm
• Polyester fiberfill
• Scissors

Please Note: This pattern uses US crochet terminology but there is a separate
document included explaining the terminology. Every round should be continuous (NO
Slip Stitch). You can place safety eyes or embroider them with black yarn.
Head (Bronze)

• Rnd 1: 6 Sc in a MR (6)
• Rnd 2: 6 Inc (12)
• Rnd 3: (1 Sc, 1 Inc) x 6 (18)
• Rnd 4: (2 Sc, 1 Inc) x 6 (24)
• Rnd 5: (3 Sc, 1 Inc) x 6 (30)
• Rnd 6: (4 Sc, 1 Inc) x 6 (36)
• Rnd 7: (5 Sc, 1 Inc) x 6 (42)
• Rnd 8-14: 42 Sc (42) (7 Rnds) Place the eyes between rounds 10-11, 8 stitches
apart. Rnd 15: (5 Sc, 1 Dec) x 6 (36)
• Rnd 16: (4 Sc, 1 Dec) x 6 (30)
• Rnd 17: (3 Sc, 1 Dec) x 6 (24) Start filling

Body (Bronze)

Start with a 6 Ch work in both sides of the chains, from the 2nd chain do:

• Rnd 2: 3 Inc, 3 Sc, 3 Inc, 3 Sc (18)
• Rnd 3: (1 Sc, 1 Inc) x 3, 3 Sc, (1 Sc, 1 Inc) x 3, 3 Sc (24)
• Rnd 4: (2 Sc, 1 Inc) x 3, 3 Sc, (2 Sc, 1 Inc) x 3, 3 Sc (30)
• Rnd 5-19: 30 Sc (30) (15 Rnds)
• Rnd 20: (2 Sc, 1 Dec) x 3, 3 Sc, (2 Sc, 1 Dec) x 3, 3 Sc (24)
• Rnd 21: (1 Sc, 1 Dec) x 3, 3 Sc, (1 Sc, 1 Dec) x 3, 3 Sc (18)

Legs (Brown and Bronze)

Start with brown - Make 4

• Rnd 1: 6 Sc in a MR (6)
• Rnd 2: 6 Inc (12)
• Rnd 3-4: 12 Sc (12) (2 Rnds)
• Rnd 5-7: (Bronze) 12 Sc (12) (3 Rnds) Leave a long tail to sew, cut the
yarn

Nose (white)
Start with 4 Ch working around it, from the 2nd chain do:

• Rnd 1: 3 Sc in the same chain, 1 Sc, 3 Sc in the same chain, 1 Sc (8)


• Rnd 2: 3 Inc, 1 Sc, 3 Inc, 1 Sc (14)
• Rnd 3-4: 14 Sc (14) (2 Rnds) Leave a long tail to sew, cut the yarn.
With a black thread make the nostrils nose in Rnd 1
Ears (Bronze)
Make 2 - Work this part in rows, make a chain and turn at the end of each
row. Start with 3 Ch from the 2nd chain do:

• Row 1: 2 Sc (2)
• Row 2: 2 Inc (4)
• Row 3: 2 Dec (2)
• Row 4: 1 Dec (1) Make a round of Sc around of the
ear, close with Slst, leave a long tail to sew, cut the
yarn

Horns (White cream color)


Make 2

• Rnd 1: 4 Sc in a MR (4)
• Rnd 2: 1 Inc, 3 Sc (5)
• Rnd 3: 1 Sc, 1 Inc, 3 Sc (6)
• Rnd 4: 1 Sc, 2 Inc, 1 Sc, 1 Dec (7)
• Rnd 5: 2 Sc, 1 Inc, 4 Sc (8)
• Rnd 6: 2 Sc, 2 Inc, 2 Sc, 1 Dec (9)
• Rnd 7: 3 Sc, 1 Inc, 5 Sc (10)
• Rnd 8: 4 Sc, 2 Inc, 2 Sc, 1 Dec (11) Leave a long tail to sew, cut the
yarn.
Tail (Bronze)
• Take a bronze strand and wrap it around two of your fingers several
times. Remove the fingers and cut along one end.
• Pass a strand many times around the joined strands folded in half to
tie them all together.
• Secure with a knot and leave a long strand.
• With this thread make 7 Ch then secure at the body.

Assembling
Place the head at the body between the rounds 14-18.

Sew the horns at the head between rounds 4-8 of the head.
• Place the muzzle between rounds 10-15 of the head and the
ears below of the horns.

• Sew the front legs between rounds 12-16 and the back legs
between rounds 4-8, both 4 stitches apart.
Hair

To make the hair, cut many strands of bronze yarn, each 10 cm long. Place
them from Round 4 to the magic ring of the head and below the head
around the body, following these steps:

• Fold a strand in half.


• Insert the crochet hook into a stitch.
• Pull the folded strand through the stitch.
• Pass the ends of the strand through the loop created by the fold.
• Pull to secure the strand.
