Pattern Overview
This pattern is worked in continuous rounds. A small hook size will reduce holes in
your work. All parts are made separately and sewn together using a tapestry needle.
You can also opt for a low sew option where you attach the arms and legs as you
crochet the body. Follow our unique ‘Crochet Code’ to create this amigurumi toy.

Pattern Notes
Each round will display the total stitch count. When completing multiple rounds of the
same stitch count you will see the total number of rounds as well as the total number of
total stitches. For example: sc 42 stitches for rows 8-13 (6 rounds). This is a total of 252
stitches (6 rounds x 42 stitches = 252 total stitches).

Use a stitch marker or weave a contrasting length of yarn at the rst stitch of each
round. This will help mark the start of each round. Pull the yarn out after completing the
section of the pattern.

Colour Changing: Change colours on the last sc prior the new colour change round.

For young children it is recommended you stitch the eyes on using black yarn and a
needle. Safety eyes are a choking hazard for small children.

Eyes Option 2: Safety eyes - Insert 14mm safety eyes between row 8 and 9. Place the eyes 8
stitches apart (counted on row 9). Position the eyes directly behind the nostrils. Use your stitch
marker from round 9 to locate the centre. Place the safety eyes either side of this marker. Once
you are happy with the placement of the eyes. Turn your work inside out and secure each eye
with a washer. Continue to crochet.
TIP: Temporarily stu the animals head and insert the safety eyes. Check the position and then

CROCHET DRAGON WINGS
With your yarn still attached, perform 3 standard decreases into the straight (inside) edge. Go in
and out of the edge stitches. This will create a subtle curve on the inside edge of the wing. Tie o
and leave a tail for sewing. Make 2 wings.

STITCHING THE DRAGON TOGETHER

Tip: A common challenge encountered while sewing crochet plushies arises when using the
attached yarn tail to sew large parts together. The constant friction in this process often leads to
the fraying of the yarn tail, particularly when dealing with sizeable pieces.

To address this issue, instead of relying on the yarn tail, attach a length of yarn in a similar colour.
Suitable choices include acrylic or cotton yarn in either 4 or 8 ply. Cut a length of yarn and attach
it to your project. Then use a tapestry needle to seamlessly sew the two parts together. Ensure a
rm pull as you progress in stitching the components. This technique proves especially bene cial
when connecting the body to the head or when sewing the tail to the body. After securing the
parts, neatly conceal both the yarn tails and the plushie yarn tail for a polished nish.

STITCHING THE DRAGON TOGETHER
- First stitch the head together. Place the ears at the side of the head. Stitch the ears over rows
14-16. Stitch the ears 10 distance apart (counted on row 16). They should sit in line with the
outer margin of the eyes.

- Stitch the legs to the base of the body facing forwards over rows 2-6 in the centre.

- Stitch the arms at the side of the body (1 row below the join for the neck). Place them 5
stitches distance apart.

STITCHING THE DRAGON TOGETHER
- Stitch the tail to the base of the body over rows 3-12 in the centre. Place the animal on the
table to check the position before sewing.

- Stitch the head to the body in the centre (stitch over rows 9-15) on the underside of the head.

- Hide your yarn tails.

CROCHET DRAGON SPINE
The dragons spine is made by crocheting a series of stitches down the centre of the animal from
head to tail. Work each stitch around a row on the existing toy. Start at the top of the head and
work down towards the tail.
Use 6 weighted yarn in colour 1150-47 Peacock

Instruction
1. Make a slip knot and perform a standing ss (slip stitch) in the centre of the head (between the
ears) around row 13. This counts as your rst stitch in the series
2. Perform the repeat unit all the way down the head, back and tail. (Pictured on page 16 I have
performed the repeat unit a total of 9 times)
3. Tie o and hide your yarn tails.

STITCHING THE DRAGON WINGS
- Position the wings over rows 15-17 on the upper back of the dragon.
- Place them either side of the dragons spine
- I have left a small gap between the spine and the inside edge of the wing.
- Stitch around the inside edge only.
- Hide your yarn tails
EMBROIDERY
Eyes: If you did not use safety eyes take a length of black yarn and a tapestry needle and stitch
the eyes over rows 8 and 9. Place the eyes 8 stitches apart (counted on row 9). Place the eyes
directly behind the nostrils. Repeat stitching over the rows until you reach your desired thickness.
Hide your yarn tail.

LOW SEW ATTACHMENT
Crochet the arms and legs into the body
For a more straightforward sewing approach, consider attaching the arms and legs while
crocheting the body. Certain accents, such as the ears and tail cannot be seamlessly crocheted
into the toy. This limitation arises because these particular accents require stitching either
perpendicular to the row or across multiple rows to maintain their desired shape.

The only subtle di erence when attaching the limbs as you crochet body is the angle at which the
legs sit. The sewing instructions advice the legs to face forwards. The low sew instructions will
cause the legs to angle outward slightly. The arms, on the other hand, will maintain a consistent
direction regardless of whether they are sewn or crocheted into place.

Instructions

Crochet the arms and legs rst, nish o and cut your yarn. Have the arms and legs ready for
when you crochet the body. The stitches sequence for the body is the exact same as the sewing
option. The only di erence is adding the limbs as you go. The rows where the limbs are attached
will be in highlighted.

When adding a part: Place the part in front of your working piece. Go through both loops of both
parts to join. When attaching the leg you will need to perform an increase in one of the stitches.
Complete the increase as normal but go through both loops of both parts.
