CHUNKY CHENILLE YARN

Yarn: Premier Yarns – Parfait Chunky
Colors*: Acorn & Chocolate (1 skein of each is enough)
*Any leftover yarns for the fruits.
Crochet hooks: 4 mm & 5 mm
Eyes: Embroidered
Final size: 14 cm (5.5’’) tall
Poly Pellets: about 50g

ALL THE PIECES ARE MADE WITH THE SMALLEST HOOK, EXCEPT THE BODY!

HEAD (in light brown yarn)

R1. mr of 10 sc (=10)
* Haven’t mastered the magic ring yet? Instead, you can chain 2 and make the 10 sc in the 2nd chain
from the hook (video tutorial).
R2. 10 inc (=20) Front Under
R3. (5 inc, 5 sc) x2 (=30)
R4 to R6 (3 rnds). 30 sc (=30)
R7. 13 sc, 3 inc, 9 sc, 3 inc, 2 sc (=36)
R8 to R10 (3 rnds). 36 sc (=36)
R11. 16 sc, 8 dec, 4 sc (=28)

If you want to use safety eyes, secure them between R6-7 leaving 10 visible stitches in between. The
decreases from R11 should be at the front of the head (see page 9 to see where I put the embroidered
eyes).
R12. 12 sc, 8 dec (=20)
Stuff the head (you can place a magnet inside the top of the head if you want to do magnetic fruits).
R13. BLO (pm in 1st front loop and leave it until you’re ready to do the body): 10 sc2tog (=10)
Finish stuffing. Cut the yarn leaving a long tail, finish stuffing the head and close the opening.
NOTE: We will embroider the nose and eyes and crochet the ears once the body is completed.

ARMS, make 2 (in light brown yarn)

R1. mr of 8 sc (=8)
R2. 8 sc (=8)
R3. (2 sc, 1 dec) x2 (=6)
Do not stuff the arms and sl st in the next stitch.
Cut the yarn leaving a short tail and pull it out to fasten off.
Save the arms for later.

LEGS, make 2 (in light brown yarn)

R1. mr of 8 sc (=8)
R2. 8 inc (=16)
R3. 8 dec (=8)
You can add some stuffing to the legs (especially for thicker yarns) and sl st in the next stitch.
Cut the yarn leaving a short tail and pull it out to fasten off.
Save the legs for later.

BODY (in light brown yarn)

USE A CROCHET HOOK 1MM BIGGER THAN YOU USED FOR THE OTHER PIECES.
For R1, you will be working in the unused front loops from the head (there are 20 loops available).
R1. Join a new strand of yarn into the marked loop [image 1] (you can remove the marker), ch 1 (doesn’t
count as a st) and 1 sc in the same loop [image 2], 3 sc, 1 inc, (4 sc, 1 inc) x3 (=24)
Reminder! Did you forget to switch for a bigger hook?

1 Use a bigger hook 2 3

for the body

End of R1

In R2, you will be joining the arms. Make sure to insert your hook through both sides of the arms
and in the body when joining. You may need to adjust the placement depending on your tension
(the increases from R7 of the head should be on the sides – cheeks). Tie both yarn tails from the
arms together (loose) once R2 is done [images 4-6 & video tutorial].
R2. 14 sc, join arm with 3 sc, 4 sc, join arm with 3 sc (=24)

R3. (7 sc, 1 inc) x3 (=27)

R4. (4 sc, 1 inc, 4 sc) x3 (=30)
R5. (4 sc, 1 inc) x6 (=36)
R6. (8 sc, 1 inc) x4 (=40)
R7 to R9 (3 rnds). 40 sc (=40)
In R10, you will be joining the legs like you did for the arms, inserting your hook through both
sides of the legs and in the body when joining. You may need to adjust the placement depending on
your tension, make sure to have 7 sts between the legs. Tie both yarn tails from the legs together
(loose) once R10 is done.
R10. 24 sc, join leg with 4 sc, 7 sc, join leg with 4 sc, 1 sc (=40)
R11. (3 sc, 1 dec) x8 (=32)
R12. (1 dec, 2 sc) x8 (=24)
R13. (1 sc, 1 dec) x8 (=16)
You are now ready to add the weighted pellets to the body.

If using Parfait Chunky or thinner yarn, add the pellets to a nylon sock (video tutorial).
Tips for nylon sock: cut about 6” of nylon sock, place it in a glass or any other
container and add pellets to the sock. I add about 50g for Parfait Chunky version,
but this may vary if you’re using different kind of pellets. Tie a loose knot and try
the bag in the body. See if you need to add or remove some pellets. Once you have
the right amount, make a very tight knot (leaving a part of the sock empty so the
pellets can move freely). Add the bag to the body and continue with R14.

If using thicker yarn, I make a custom size cloth bag with some scrap fabric (as thin as
possible so the bag is still soft and malleable – silent video tutorial).
Tips for fabric bag: cut a circle about twice as big as the circumference of the body, weave in a thread
around the whole border of the fabric [images 8-9]. Fill the bag with pellets: I add about 175g for
Blanket yarn version and about 450-500g for Sweet Snuggles/Parfait XL version, but this may vary if
you’re using different kind of pellets [image 10]. Tie a loose knot and try the bag in the body. See if you
need to add or remove some pellets. Once you have the right amount, make a very tight knot (make sure
that there is no gap left for pellets to escape) [image 11]. Add the bag to the body and continue with R14.

I do not add regular stuffing to the body to keep it squishy and soft, but you could decide to add some
stuffing to the neck area before adding the pellets if you want (please note that it will change the overall
look and texture of the project).
R14. 8 dec (=8)
Cut the yarn leaving a long enough tail and close up the body. Hide the tail (I personally bring it up it the
head for extra security). Careful not to poke the pellets bag with your needle!
