Denim Pocket

Sweet n Sassy Stamps is hosting a Stamp-A-Thon this week-end with lots of different challenges to participate in. Play along and you could win 1 of 5 $10 gift codes to the Sweet n Sassy Stamps Store. (There are freebies to be had as well!)

My challenge is to "Add a Pocket" to your project, and all you need to do to participate is create a new project with a pocket of some kind and upload a photo to this  Stamp-A-Thon album on the  Sweet n Sassy VIP Facebook page. (It's not necessary to use Sweet n Sassy Stamps for this challenge.)

To create the faux denim look I swiped my white ink pad vertically and then horizontally over dark blue paper before printing this FREE pocket template over top

You're Tea-riffic

I'm having a blast playing along in the Spring/Summer Coffee Lover's Blog Hop!
I have a second card to share today that features a fun DIY weathered wood background.

Here's a mini tutorial ...

  • Gather your supplies - White Glue, Paint, Stiff Cardboard, Sandpaper
  • Cut your cardboard to size and using a Scoring Board, create boards every 1/4 inch
  • Cover your entire piece of cardboard with white school glue and let dry till tacky

  • Paint over your tacky glue with your choice of paint (I used Blueprint Sketch Distress Paint ---- (NOTE: do not apply using applicator, remove lid and use a paintbrush!)
  • Dry using a heat gun (if you did it correctly, cracks will appear)
  • Add a coordinating color of paint  and heat set (I added Hickory Smoke Distress Paint)

  • Apply a little bit of Picket Fence Distress Stain and rub in with your finger (heat set)
  • Re-score your lines
  • Sand edges and center to create a rough, worn look

Here's a free template for the cup I used as well.
If you'd like the saucer to go with it visit my Patterns and Templates Page.

Supplies and Tools:

  • Blueprint Sketch/Hickory Smoke Distress Paint (Ranger)
  • Picket Fence Distress Stain (Ranger)
  • Sandpaper
  • Cardboard
  • Elmer's Glue
  • Martha Stewart Scoring Board
  • Mixed Media Grunge (Stamplorations)

  • Polkadot Stencil (Firefly)

Mini Paper Bag Book

Today I have a Mini Paper Bag Book to share with you. I started out to make a "Junk Journal," but as you can see there are no recycled items in this little booklet -- That's because I got distracted with clipart and papers from My Cute Lobster Designs! Here are the two sets I bought to create this little album....
  1. Blush and Gold Clipart
  2.  Pink, Yellow, Mint Digital Paper

I used these sets to create Scripture and Hymn tags and also as the embellishments to decorate the pages and pockets of my book. All the the Bible verses came from Word Art Wednesday.

Here's how I folded my bag to create the cover for this little book:

  1. Start with a lunch sack laying sideways so that it's bottom is on your right
  2. Fold over the bottom part of the bag (from the right) to form a flap
  3. Fold the top part of the bag (from the left) so that it overlaps the first part
  4. Turn your bag over and trim the excess off

Since I don't have a load of double sided paper I made my pages by:
  1. Choosing several coordinating designer papers
  2. Adhering two matching pieces back to back using my ATG gun
  3. Folding in the center to form a page insert

Here are some of the inside pages of my little book

You can see that I created both horizontal and vertical pockets on my pages.

I placed a paper doily in between several layers so that it stuck out both in the back and the front of the book.

Besides coordinating paper strips, I also used border punches and a fence die to create pockets for my tags. Several tags have pretty lace threaded through the top.

I contacted My Cute Lobster to be sure I was allowed to do this --- and they said it was fine for me to give away this page of printables (made with their art) here on my blog.
So here's your free printable page of Scripture and Hymn art.

Pocket Encouragement Book

My friend Abby recently sent me a sweet little pocket booklet full of inspirational quotes and Scriptures.

I LOVED it and decided to make up a few of my own to send to friends on the card ministry list who experienced tragic losses in the past year.

I started with a 12 x 6 inch piece of double sided card stock and folded it in the center.

I folded in each side 2 3/4 inches and cut the top at an angle to form a pocket.

I created some lady silhouettes in my photo editing program and added free verses from Word art Wednesday to them. (free template below)

I filled the pockets with Scriptures, Songs, and Inspirational quotes from these sources:
Free printables from:

Using the Trust in the Lord stamp (Stamplorations) and Black Soot Distress Ink (Ranger) I added a verse to the cover. A few tiny punched hearts and twine tie complete this fun little pocket book.

Autumn Coffee

It's time for our Wednesday challenge over at The House That Stamps Built. This week we have an inspiration board for you. This challenge is a fun cross between a photo challenge and a color challenge. You can choose to be inspired by the colors, the photograph, or both! I love this week's selection -- and chose to be inspired by the photo of coffee and sunflowers!

To create my happy little coffee shaped card I:
  • cut a coffee cup shaped card (using the free template below) out of white card stock and inked the edges with Vintage Photo Distress Ink (Ranger)
    • cut the lid and wrapper from kraft card stock
    • inked the edges with Walnut Stain Distress Ink (Ranger)
    • ran the wrapper through my Fiskars paper crimper
  • stamped 2826-H, Let Us... on the lid in Ground Espresso Distress Ink (Ranger) and glued it to the top flap of my card
  • created an autumn collage on my wrapper using the following Repeat Impressions Stamps:
  • All the stamped pieces where inked with Fossilized Amber/Spiced Marmalade/Walnut Stain Distress Ink (Ranger)
  • I added some brown (Studio G) glitter to the center of my layered sunflower
  • The extra vines are die cut from the Funky Flowers #1 thinlits (Sizzix - Tim Holtz) and Meadowbird Branch dies (Memory Box)
