Pauline Kael The New Yorker Micheal Crichton's Westworld is a moderately entertaining sci-fi film; its major disadvantage is that Crichton's ideas is -- potentially -- too ingenious for what he was able to do. Rated: 3.5/5 Jun 27, 2024 Full Review Russell Davies Observer (UK) In the closing minutes, Brynner's presence comes to inspire the classic movie monster mixture of dread and pathos, while his destructive urge sounds the film's warning against unrestrained technology. yass m Old but not gold — that’s the simplest way to describe Westworld. The concept had promise: a futuristic amusement park where guests live out Wild West fantasies with lifelike robots. But despite that intriguing idea, the film feels surprisingly hollow. The pacing drags, with long stretches where nothing meaningful happens, and when the action finally comes, it’s clumsy and dated. The special effects—perhaps impressive in their time—now look painfully poor, robbing the story of its tension. It’s a movie that hints at deep themes about technology and morality but never truly explores them. Instead, it lingers too long on shallow moments and never quite delivers the philosophical or emotional punch it seems to aim for. In short, Westworld is an interesting idea trapped in a dull execution. A curiosity from the past, yes—but far from timeless. Still, credit where it’s due: Yul Brynner delivers an outstanding performance as the relentless Gunslinger. His cold, mechanical presence carries a menace that the rest of the movie struggles to match. He’s the one thing that still feels alive in this dusty sci-fi western. Rated 5 out of 5 stars 10/20/25 Full Review Chris B Classic scfi movies. Acting is great . Casting is prefect . The story is fresh and unique ahead of its time . A must watch for science fiction fans Rated 4.5 out of 5 stars 03/24/25 Full Review The H To its credit, "Westworld" did plant seeds that blossomed into classics like "Terminator", "Robocop" and evidently "Jurassic Park". But as a standalone film, it's a 5/10 at best. A remake with a tighter script, better pacing, and a healthy dose of realism could turn this dusty relic into a genuine sci-fi masterpiece. Maybe the Westworld series is what it should be? I will report to you once I watch it. Rated 2.5 out of 5 stars 03/02/25 Full Review Shawn R Yul Brynner is stellar in this fun flick! Recommend! But not every ones cup of tea, but not amazing, Yul Brynner's best performance and the most impressive robot performance and he was absolutely increasable.
