Terrible 😞

Terrible. It makes me sad and a bit sick to know that people LIKE ixl. I used it a few years ago and I thought I would never have to see it again but, this year I have to use it again. People need to know that ixl is not good.

Just joined so my opinion might change…

Just joined so my opinion might change over time. After weeks in lockdown my 5yo haA exhausted the Mathletics website exercise given to his class. I decided to subscribe to ixl despite the reviews. He is really competitive, is a perfectionist and hate to lose. Luckily when he stays in an exercise he does manage to reach 100% even if he does get some answers wrong at times. I disabled the timer option in settings, I assume it is what allows him to get his points back when he makes a mistake. You do see the percentage going down when a mistake is made but with the timer down the questions just continue until he reaches 100%. He’s delighted with the rewards and actually starts new exercises without being asked...
I’m also like the option to be able to junior infant English but senior infant maths and not be restricted to one level...

I have purchased 2 moths ago for 8 years old and 6 years old its ok at some points. but no explanation about teaching you properly. Its just the question and questions I paid £120 for a year. I am really disappointed. I am home schooling my children. My children finds it boring. I have also signed them up with Reading Eggs which they find it fun learning but the best one is( Twinkl )which is used for mainly by teachers which is the best.

Bravo IXL ( help during lockdown)

This is not an easy app program. But the difference it has made to my children’s learning during lockdown is. Brilliant ( yes you drop a lot of points when you get an answer wrong) but it’s helping them no ends and making them want to get 100 percent and receive awards when they do well Bravo IXL.....

the problems with ixl

this whole website is absolute torture unless you are a pro at the skill you are currently doing. there are many cursed things including: 1.the fact that you lose score more that you gain at a certain point, 2. the time counter which is used to count how long you have had to struggle with the questions, and 3. the fact that you can't retry problems that you failed. please allow people to retry the problems.

A great app for kids

The negative reviews to IXL, are from entitled children (that’s not being harsh…read them for yourself and be the judge). Their complaints have little to do with how IXL supports children’s progress, which is why I am so pleased that I didn’t listen and have pushed on with encouraging my sons to use it.

I’ve seen an improvement in their attainment in English and Maths, in the two years since they started using it.

What I love:
1. Ability to tailor it to follow the national curriculum
2. Recommended questions based on areas for improvement
3. There are education themed games that they love playing once they’ve finished their work
4. Sends weekly progress updates/reviews to our emails

What I’d improve:
1. One for science?
2. A third payment option for quarterly?
3. Support for students doing 11+ ?

This is the best thing ever. (NOT)

Oh well, how should I start? First, I love staying on the computer to do IXL, because I love restraining my temper and trying not to destroy my computer. Second, I love having anger controlling issues every other second. Third, I love having to lose 10 points every time I get a question wrong when I'm just about to get 100 points. Fourth, I love to redo 10 questions when I lose points. I believe IXL should be really proud of themselves. Yes, REALLY.

IXL can be useful at times but it can seem a bit more daunting and stressful than other websites. From our experience, kids really didn’t enjoy it as much as I would have hoped. We’ve tried out a few and Beestar was more helpful in our opinion.

Be careful where you purchase this…

Be careful where you purchase this product as price variation is huge. And also the moment you stop paying the full price from the web. Customer service becomes non existence. They start lying about what they can do for you when you have issues with your account. I wanted to merge accounts as We bought multiple accounts and this Victoria customer service rep bluntly refused as my account was the group buy account. However others paying the full yearly version was able to merge accounts. When you buy the yearly subscriptions, they don’t let you transfer the subscriptions, even when you have 2 accounts for the same child.

Note: they only do that when you find out about the cheaper $20 yearly class subscription and you stop paying the $150 a year. The customer service turns on you and doesn’t help you with anything.

Consider Customer Loyalty

The IXL site itself is OK. My 3 kids (ages 7, 9, 13) all use it to practise maths. We've found it's helped to improve their confidence in answering maths questions, and has certainly helped suppliment the work they've done in school time. So, from a learning perspective, the web site seems to have a positive effect.
Now the negative side of things...the first year we signed up the kids using a 20% off offer. At renewal time, this wasn't available to us. We asked it there was a discount for pre-existing members, but the answer to that is NO. No discount for loyalty or repeat business. They seemed more happy to cancel the account, than to try to keep us! Out of principle, there is no way I wil be renewing after this. IXL, your loss not mine. There are other (free) teaching resources available online.

It's a bad website, even thinking about it put my little sister in a bad mood.it's boring and unrewarding. my sister tells me the smart score makes her feel dumb, and that it only rewards the "smart" people
