They sell a large variety of items or equipment that Link can purchase, often in exchange for Rupees, although there are some notable exceptions. There are many different types of Shop, and the goods that they sell tend to differ depending on these types.
Features and Overview
The Legend of Zelda
Merchants reside in hidden Shops across the Overworld in The Legend of Zelda. The items available for purchase differ between each Merchant, as well as the items' prices.
A Link to the Past
In A Link to the Past, the Shop system is a lot more complex than in The Legend of Zelda, introducing different types of Shops that specified in particular types of items. For example, the Magic Shop, which only sells Potions, and the Dark World Shield Shop, which only sells Shields. However, a few Shops still retain the same style as the ones run by the merchants in The Legend of Zelda. A Link to the Past also introduces the concept of selling items; Link is able to sell Golden Bees to the Street Merchant for 100 Rupees each. In the Game Boy Advance version of A Link to the Past, there is an additonal Shop in the Village of Outcasts which sells Bees, Golden Bees and Fairies.
List of Shops
- ↑ The inventory of this Shop is different in the Super Nintendo Entertainment System version of A Link to the Past.
Link's Awakening
Although it has almost the exact same Shop system as in A Link to the Past, Link's Awakening does introduce Thievery. This allows Link to get any item for free by stealing it from the Town Tool Shop, but if he enters the Shop again, the Shopkeeper will kill him. This idea is only ever used again in Twilight Princess, in which Link is able to steal from Trill's Shop.
List of Shops
Ocarina of Time
As in A Link to the Past, Ocarina of Time includes multiple Shops that each sell different items. One new addition is the Happy Mask Shop, which functions very differently from Shops seen previously in the series. Rather than buying the masks upfront, Link has to borrow them and then sell them himself, before paying the price of the mask back to the Shop's owner, the Happy Mask Salesman. Doing this will allow Link to borrow the mask again for free whenever he wishes.
List of Shops
Majora's Mask
The Shop system seen in Majora's Mask is very similar to the one seen in Ocarina of Time, with a couple of new additions. The first of these is the Curiosity Shop, which sells stolen goods. Here, Link can purchase items that were stolen from other people, such as the Big Bomb Bag, which was stolen from the Old Lady from Bomb Shop by Sakon. He can also purchase his own items here if they were stolen by the Takkuri. The second new addition is the Milk Bar, which only sells Milk and Chateau Romani. However, in order to enter, Link must obtain Romani's Mask, which is used as proof of membership.

List of Shops
Breath of the Wild
In Breath of the Wild, most Shops fall into one of three categories: General Stores, Armor Shops and Jewelry Shop. They are featured on the Sheikah Slate's Map, where they appear when Link approches them, like Stables. Almost all Shop owners are able to buy Items from Link.
General Stores
General Stores are the most common type of Shops. They can be found in all settlements across Hyrule and they offer a wide variety of wares, such as Arrows, Monster Parts and many Cooking Ingredients. In Gerudo Town, General Stores are called Stalls.
Armor Shops
Armor Shops can be found in most settlements. Each of them sell a unique Armor Set, usually related to the region they are in. In addition to their own unique Armor Sets, Enchanted and the Ventest Clothing Boutique also sell the Hylian Armor Series.
Jewelry Shops
Although one sells Ores and the other Earrings and Circlets, they are both referred to as Jewelry Shops on the Sheikah Slate's Map.
Other Shops
During the course of his adventure, Link may also encounter other Shops, many of which are not featured on the Sheikah Slate's Map.
Tears of the Kingdom
Shops reappear in Tears of the Kingdom, mostly unchanged from how they were in Breath of the Wild. However, many have been affected by the repercussions of the Upheaval, and some will not be available until Link deals with the corresponding Regional Phenomena.
General Stores
Many Shop owners have added new Materials to their wares, such as Hylian Tomatoes, Oil Jars, Brightbloom Seeds, and even Bomb Flowers. There is also a new General Store, which can be found at Lookout Landing.
Armor Shops
Although some Armor Shops list new prices for Armor pieces, the overall cost of those full Sets remain the same as it was in Breath of the Wild. And in addition to her General Store, Mubs has also opened an Armor Shop in Lookout Landing.
Jewelry Shops
Starlight Memories is the only Jewelry Shop left, as Pelison is now running the Break-a-Part Shop.
Other Shops
During the course of his adventure, Link may also encounter other Shops, many of which are not featured on the Purah Pad's Map.
