appetizers

Why do they exist?

I just don’t understand. I’m not too refined but I’m fine.

quick appetizer?

A dictionary definition says that appetizers are used to stimulate one’s appetite. This could be my problem because my appetite rarely needs stimulation. It’s typically ready to go, anytime anywhere. But really is my appetite that different? Would a skinner person out there please stand up and explain why their appetite needs stimulation.

Now, I know there are eating disorders. That's a medical problem and you'll need to check other sites for that discussion.  However, I’ve had plenty of missed orders related to my food. Often if you complain, good restaurants will give the mistake to you free or give you a free dessert. I once became a family legend with my ordering of Oriental Chicken Salad.

Much better restaurant than Applebees

I recall it was on slow trip through Indiana. Typically I'm very low keyed, even mellow. My motto is lighten up people. But don't lighten up the ingredients on my Oriental Chicken Salad. When you sprinkle driving time on top of hunger I get easily provoked.

The Applebees was busy but not overly so and we were seated quickly. I knew I was ordering the Oriental Chicken Salad when I flipped on the blinker to exit the interstate. Wife and kids decided their orders, gave the order, and then waited. The problem was not the slow turn around.

The orders were messed up. Daughter's Bacon Cheeseburger had no bacon. Then I noticed my salad was missing those crispy oriental noodles. I love crunchy.  Crispy crunchy noodles are the essence of this salad.

The waiter tells me they are out of crispy noodles. Too many problems here - I need some face time with the manager.

I bluntly explain to the manager that had I been told about their shortage of crispy noodles, I would have ordered something else.

I accepted some type of replacement and daughter's Bacon Cheeseburger comes back with bacon now but NO cheese.

Manager stop by to ask how we were doing. Not well, I explained.

In the end, the problem was rectified by the manager giving us the total meal free and including free desserts for the group. The other benefit came later when my famous stand for noodle rights became a family legend.

Now I ask you, would an appetizer have made a difference in this situation?

will it be a sweet tweet

Will twitter get bitter?

This week if you follow any business news at all you’ll hear (have already heard?) about Twitter’s IPO. Now the scary thing I find is people getting interested and hyped up about this and they don’t even know what IPO stands for (Initial Public Offering). I’m not going to rush out and buy any shares of twitter.

In a few months the Twitter stock price is going to be either up or down. I won’t care.

If you bother to read any of the news regarding the IPO you’ll quickly learn that the company has yet to turn a profit. Now that of course doesn’t mean that they will not become profitable in the future. I’m very surprised this service has become as popular as it has. It’s been around for 7 years now and still growing.

Years ago I posted about how Twitter was blamed for the Aniston-Mayer breakup. It was then that I realized that Twitter is a big PR machine for celebrities.  PR is big business but I don't know if it is a highly profitable one.

Many bloggers are on twitter. I’m not. I have been invited. I just don’t see a reason to join yet another network. I would rather save my thoughts for a post where I don’t need to worry about a character limit. I text and I see the advantages texting offers. If I have short thought about to burst if not shared, I have Facebook and G+.

I am probably A Few Clicks Short of a Pageview on this, but I just don’t see a big profitable future for the blue bird.

Alert followers who read more that just short tweets might remember me doing parody song lyrics about twitter.

You're just too good to be true
Can’t tweet my feeling of you
You'd be like heaven to tweet
I wanna hashtag you so sweet
At long last love has a link
I thank twitter I don’t think
You're just too good to be true
Can’t tweet my feeling of you

Sesame St. Main St. Wall St. Brawl St.

What street?

"Stand in the place where you live" (REM song)

It all does get too confusing, all too often.

Sesame St. was in the news last week because it too has been hit by this economic crisis. Here's a headline from the examiner web site:

Can you tell me how to get to the Sesame Street unemployment office?

I suggest that maybe they rent space in Oscar's trash can since more people will be on the street.

Oscar trash can

Last Thursday night I heard of another street - Brawl Street.

I watch CNBC and the Daily Show, so this battle/interview was hyped for a few days. Jon Stewart grilled Jim Cramer for
CNBC's coverage of the economic crisis. Jon threw some good serious questions at Jim. You can watch the whole interview at the Daily show site.

Another explainer of confusion is Uncle Jay. I found this "Uncle Jay Explains the News" show awhile back and I get a laugh from it everytime.

scary days

pumpkin

Halloween is approaching but the scary thing this October has been the stock market and the economy. I found this picture on the Chicago Tribune site.

This looks like a stock trader looking at his portfolio.

sign of the times

Image Hosted by ImageShack.us

Now I didn't actually see the tour bus - BUT I noticed a sign on the road side offering "Foreclosure Bus Tours". I consider this a little ridiculous. A quick web search and I found a web site. I certainly would not pay almost $100 to drive around looking at foreclosures. I didn't know this existed but after some more looking, it appears other areas of the country have had this going on for some months. I don't think the Chicago area had as much of a bubble in the market as CA or FL.

Here's some more on the tours in FL. link

I just can not help but thinking "Train wreck tours - see the disaster close up".
