A Short History of Hollywood’s Ironic Gun-Control Fetish

Above, John Wayne and his Winchester 1892 lever-gun with wide loop in Stagecoach (1939).

Guns and Hollywood have gone hand-in-hand since the silent movie era.

Many gun models (rifles and pistols) have been featured in motion pictures for decades. Some gun models are so popular that many of those guns have seen sales skyrocket, such as Clint Eastwood's Dirty Harry Smith & Wesson Model 29 in .44 magnum.

America's First Freedom has posted an article that is a short history of Hollywood's gun control fetish.

It begins with:

We often use Hollywood as a pejorative in these pages. Many film executives have been asking for this treatment.

It is, after all, one thing to ignore the anti-Second Amendment politics of an actor who stars in shoot-‘em-up action films, but it is quite another to shrug away anti-gun political messaging fronting as moral goodness in a TV drama or film.

Nevertheless, we do.

We shake our heads and sigh when our national storytellers aren’t just peddling weak falsehoods about America’s more than 100 million gun owners but also are so intellectually lazy or so immersed in their anti-gun bubbles that they get basic things about guns and the laws that regulate them wrong.

Admittedly, there can be a tinge of cathartic pleasure in voicing honest criticisms of Hollywood actors, writers and producers who ignorantly attack this right—this is very much like when an audience cheers after President Donald Trump (R) points to the back of a rally and calls the “journalists” standing there behind their cameras and microphones “fake news.”

Still, those are only the obvious things to say about the complex relationship between America’s millions and millions of lawfully armed citizens and the juggernaut we refer to as Hollywood.

The Second Amendment That Nobody Wants To Talk About

Everyday, we see news reports from different states where leftist Democrats try to infringe on our Second Amendment rights. Thankfully, most of their efforts fail or are overturned.

Nobody really discusses the reason for the Second Amendment, though. Well, The Truth About Guns spells it out without pulling any punches.

They begin with:

Earlier this month, President Trump released a statement in support of National Shooting Sports Month, recognizing the history and tradition of America’s firearms culture, from recreation and competition to self-reliance. But while the occasion is focused on shooting sports, it is difficult for me to read reverence for the “God-given right to bear arms” without any mention of why the Second Amendment really exists.

While nobody wants to see an armed conflict within the borders of our great nation, history is rife with examples of governments gone tyrannical, from the Roman Monarchy, Nazi Germany, and the former Soviet Union, to contemporary dictatorships like North Korea. One would also be remiss to ignore more subtle strategies deployed to subjugate without the population even realizing it’s happening. Take Hungary’s Viktor Orbán, for example, who uses mass manipulation through the control of information to reshape public perception. Wait, that sounds familiar…

But this isn’t a story about dictators or revolutions. It is one of sincerity and integrity. President Trump is no stranger to the abundance of corruption in DC that has permeated nationwide politics, the judicial system, and much of the government-controlled mainstream media that delivers the message at their behest. And yet, even his brash, anti-silver-tongued speech we’ve all come to know does not allow him to put the Second Amendment in context of why it exists or the shambles it is currently in.

This is one article that should be shared and shared widely.

Gun Control Groups Can't Stomach Women Gun Owners

Women gun owners is a fast growing segment in society these days.

This fact has gun control groups in a tizzy.

NSSF posted:

Leave it to gun control groups to suggest that half of the law-abiding population of the United States shouldn’t be considered for gun ownership. And it’s the half of the population that owning a firearm for self-defense benefits the most in time of need.

Sure, in the past, women were not the segment of the population that immediately popped in to mind as being firearm owners. But now in 2025, shouldn’t that be different? Women already have the same rights as men – including the right to keep and bear arms. Firearms are a part of the American culture, enjoyed by everyone of any color, race and nationality. And over the past five years, industry data has shown women are the fastest-growing demographic of gun buyer. It makes sense that firearm industry businesses would pay attention to their customers and cater to their needs.

But that’s not how many gun control activists and gun control groups see it and they are now aghast that lawful firearm manufacturers would cater their advertising and marketing efforts to appeal to women.

Oh, the thought!

FIRE Act Introduced To End Magazine Capacity Restrictions

The radical left Democrats are going to scream bloody murder over this one, especially if it passes and is signed into law by President Trump.

A bill has been introduced in Congress banning federal, state, and local governments from restricting firearm magazine capacity.

According to USA Carry:

WASHINGTON, DC — In a bold move to safeguard Second Amendment rights, Congressman Tony Wied (WI-08) introduced the Freedom from Improper Regulation and Enforcement (FIRE) Act on July 17, 2025. The proposed legislation would ban federal, state, and local governments from restricting firearm magazine capacity, effectively eliminating a patchwork of regulations that limit magazine size across different jurisdictions.

The FIRE Act prohibits any federal agency from implementing magazine capacity restrictions and blocks state and local governments from enacting or enforcing such laws. The bill has already gained support from several House Republicans, including original cosponsors Reps. Tom Tiffany (WI-07), Mike Collins (GA-10), Dave Taylor (OH-02), Sheri Biggs (SC-03), and Russ Fulcher (ID-01).

“For too long, the federal government has infringed on Americans’ Second Amendment rights while maintaining a confusing, inconsistent system that lacks a uniform national standard and invites legal disparity,” Wied stated. “The FIRE Act ensures that law-abiding gun owners can access magazines of any size, no matter where they are in the United States. It’s well past time we take the Founding Fathers’ words ‘shall not be infringed’ seriously.”

The bill is a direct response to a wave of state and local laws that restrict so-called “high-capacity” magazines, often defined as those holding more than 10 rounds. These laws vary by jurisdiction and firearm type, creating legal uncertainty for gun owners traveling across state lines.

NRA-ILA: Take Action On New Mexico Gun Bills

The radical left is trying to infringe on New Mexicans' gun rights.

The NRA-ILA posted the following:

Yesterday, Senate Finance posted that their staff is reviewing SB 279 as a part of their Wednesday meeting. While this is not a formal hearing, this could be a decision point on whether Senate Finance will take up the bill with 10 days left in session. It's critical that NRA members and Second Amendment supporters, get involved today!

Click the “Take Action” button below to urge the committee members to oppose SB 279

SB 279 seeks to regulate and prohibit the possession of a wide range of semiautomatic firearms commonly used by law-abiding citizens for recreation, hunting, self-defense, and competitive shooting.

Law-abiding New Mexicans who currently possess firearms covered by the bill would be required to register the firearms with the state no later than January 1, 2026. Gun owners would be required to keep on their person a notarized certification of that registration anytime they travel outside their own property. Licensed firearm dealers will have to mark firearms, maintain records of certifications, and make these available for law enforcement inspection.

Second Amendment Supporters Rally At Roundhouse

Above, the New Mexico Capitol Building in Santa Fe. Photo by Armand Vaquer.

The timing of yesterday's snowstorm put a big dent in the attendance numbers of the 2nd Amendment rally at the state Capitol building, known as the Roundhouse.

I attended a similar rally there in January 2020 which drew several hundred people.

According to the Santa Fe New Mexican:

About 40 gun rights supporters gathered outside of the Roundhouse on a snowy Saturday to express their opposition to gun control measures being considered by the Legislature.

Specifically, Senate Bill 279, which would outlaw the sale, transfer and receipt of gas-powered semiautomatic rifles that use high-capacity magazines and ban magazines holding more than 10 rounds.

Gun owners who currently own one of the weapons to be restricted would be allowed to keep them but would have to certify them with the state. The bill advanced out of the Senate Judiciary Committee on a 5-4 vote Friday night, along party lines except for Sen. Joe Cervantes, D-Las Cruces, who voted against it.

Further on in the article, it was written that more moderate Democrats, who were Second Amendment supporters, were primaried out of office by more radical Democrats during last election cycle.

The big question is: Will people of New Mexico comply of Senate Bill 279 passes and is signed into law? You can bet there will be lawsuits filed if it does.

News From New Mexico Shooting Sports Association

On Monday, 3/3, two gun control bills will have their first committee hearing in the Senate Judiciary Committee in Room 321 after the floor session ends in the afternoon (times can widely vary at this point in the legislative session) (Zoom Link).

The ban on the sale or transfer of gas operated rifles, handguns, and shotguns, SB279, will receive it first committee hearing. The bill would also ban the sale or transfer of all magazines that hold more than 10 rounds, regardless of the firearm operation.

Additionally, SB244, which would ban minors from possessing a firearm will also be heard. While there are some exemptions written into the bill, the very limited scope of when and how a firearm could be possessed by a minor could still end youth shooting sports and youth hunting in New Mexico. Additionally, the bill would make it a crime for a minor to use a firearm in self-defense or in the defense of others unless their parent or guardian was physically present next to them.

This past Friday evening, the Senate Judiciary Committee passed SB507, the concealed carry law rewrite. There were two key amendments to the bill. First, the age to receive a permit was moved back to 21 from 19. Second, the reciprocity language removed from the Concealed Handgun Carry Act was added back. The reciprocity change was our primary concern with the bill. The language of the final amendments has not been publicly published yet, but we will continue to advocate on the bill to ensure it is a move in the right direction.

NM: Take Action Against Gun Control Bills Today!

Above, the New Mexico State Capitol. Photo by Armand Vaquer.

We're in the midst of the 2025 session of the New Mexico legislature. True to form, radical leftist Democrats have introduced bills that would, if enacted, endanger the Second Amendment rights of the state's citizens.

The NRA-ILA posted a "take action" article on two bills now before lawmakers.

They posted:

The New Mexico legislature is considering two significant bills that pose substantial threats to our Second Amendment rights: Senate Bill 279 and Senate Bill 318, which are expected to be heard before the Senate Judiciary committee in the coming days. It's critical that you get involved today by clicking the TAKE ACTION button to contact members of the Senate Judiciary Committee and urge their opposition to SB 279 & SB 318 today!

On Senate Bill 279, they wrote:

Senate Bill 279, known as the Gas-Operated Semiauto Firearms Exclusion Act, seeks to regulate and potentially prohibit the possession of a wide range of semiautomatic firearms commonly used by law-abiding citizens for recreation, hunting, self-defense, and competitive shooting.

On Senate Bill 318, they wrote:

Senate Bill 318 expands the New Mexico Unfair Practices Act to include firearms, parts, and accessories, imposing severe penalties of $250,000 per violation and holding manufacturers, distributors, and online platforms jointly liable for actions by third parties. It allows private lawsuits without proof of harm, subjects out-of-state and online sellers to New Mexico laws, and grants sweeping authority to the Attorney General to pursue civil penalties.

New Mexico voters need to contact their representatives and urge them to defeat these bills.

Trump Signs Executive Order To Review Gun Control

President Donald Trump signed an executive order to protect and expand Second Amendment rights of Americans.

The NRA-ILA posted:

Today, the White House announced a new Executive Order to protect and expand the Second Amendment rights of all law-abiding Americans. This is the first action taken by President Donald J. Trump to carry through on his promise to restore the full protections of the Right to Keep and Bear Arms for the American people.

“Promises made to law-abiding gun owners are being kept by President Donald J. Trump,” said Doug Hamlin, NRA Executive Vice President and CEO. “NRA members were instrumental, turning out in record numbers to secure his victory, and he is proving worthy of their votes, faith, and confidence in his first days in office.”

The order directs the Attorney General to conduct a report and make recommendations to better protect the Second Amendment. Specifically, the order requires the Attorney General to evaluate actions taken by the Biden Administration that restricted firearms rights and recommend solutions to undo those actions.

President Trump has gone further than simply moving towards eliminating the anti-gun actions of the last administration. The order further requires the Attorney General to take an all-of-government review to further enhance firearm rights by addressing the litigation position of the United States in any case impacting the Second Amendment, reviewing government classifications of firearms and ammunition, and evaluating wait times for various federal approvals that are required to make, manufacture, transfer, or export firearms and ammunition.

News From The New Mexico Shooting Sports Association

Three new gun control bills have been filed, including one of the bills we have been anticipating. First, SB279a ban on the sale or transfer of semiautomatic rifles was filed today. The bill would also ban the sale or transfer of all magazines that hold more than ten rounds. The first stop for the bill will be the Senate Judiciary Committee.

Second, SB244, a ban on minors possessing firearms with exemptions was filed. That bill is also before the Senate Judiciary Committee. Third, SB255, modifies New Mexico's private firearm sale background check law to attempt to create criminal liability for social media companies or websites that "facilitate" unlawful firearm transfers. That bill has been sent to the Senate Health and Public Affairs Committee

Tomorrow, Wednesday 2/5, HB12, the expansion of New Mexico's "red-flag" gun confiscation law will be heard in the House Judiciary Committee. Here is a pre-written email to send to committee members asking them to oppose the bill. The meeting is at 1:30pm in Room 309 (Zoom link). On Friday, 2/7, the House Judiciary Committee will be hearing HB38, the "weapon conversion device" ban. The meeting will be at 1:30pm in Room 309 as well (Zoom link).

Today, in the House Consumer and Public Affairs Committee, HB83, permitless concealed carry, was tabled on a party-line vote. Those voting against the bill didn't debate the bill or ask questions of the sponsor, Representative Block. Finally, yesterday in the House Commerce & Economic Development Committee, HB202, the gun safe tax credit bill, was unanimously passed. The next stop for the bill is the House Taxation and Revenue Committee.

California Sides With Mexico Against US Gun Industry

Besides turning California into a hellhole cesspool, radical Democrat liberals have been trying to diminish Second Amendment rights.

Gun control radicals are siding with Mexico against gun manufacturers and the Second Amendment.

According to the Buckeye Firearms Association:

The willingness of some in the U.S. to aid a foreign power in an assault on American industry and Americans’ Constitutional rights is sad and disturbing.

On Jan. 17, California Attorney General Rob Bonta proclaimed his support for Mexico’s position in the ongoing case Smith & Wesson Brands Inc, et al. v. Estados Unidos Mexicanos. The case, now at the U.S. Supreme Court, is an attempt by the Mexican government, working with U.S.-based gun control advocates, to undo the Protection of Lawful Commerce in Arms Act (PLCAA), make the U.S. firearms industry a scapegoat for Mexican lawlessness, and impose billions of dollars in liability on American gun manufacturers for violence perpetrated by violent criminals south of the border.

Readers should know that the PLCAA was enacted in 2005, with broad bipartisan support, to protect the firearms industry from frivolous and politically motivated lawsuits. In the mid-1990s, gun control advocates, big city politicians, and trial attorneys teamed up to use the courts to bilk the gun industry for millions and force them to agree to gun control measures that gun control supporters were unable to enact in Congress. The suits sought to hold members of the industry liable for the criminal behavior of those who misused their products.

I, for one, am glad that I moved out of Commiefornia. This coming week will mark seven years since I did so.

Trump Shuts Down Biden’s White House Office of Gun Control

Above, the White House. Photo by Armand Vaquer.

President Donald Trump has shut down the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, Joe Biden's little by-pass of congress to attack Second Amendment rights.

Ammoland reported:

The Citizens Committee for the Right to Keep and Bear Arms is congratulating President Donald Trump for quickly following through on a promise to shut down the White House Office of Gun Violence Prevention, which was a thinly disguised Biden administration gun control operation.

“This gun control bureaucracy had no place in the White House, and it should never have been created,” said CCRKBA Chairman Alan Gottlieb.

“Its supporters are having fits on the Internet, which convinces us that President Trump’s swift action was correct. It was already reported that the staff of this operation resigned prior to the transition of power, which suggests they knew what was coming, so they abandoned ship to avoid being fired.”

What A Liar!

Recently, Mark Zuckerberg said the following:

Zuckerberg: "We're going to get rid of fact-checkers and replace them with community notes, similar to X."

Well, he speaks with a lying forked tongue. This morning, I posted an email from Zac Fort of the New Mexico Shooting Sports Association at the Facebook Page, Patriots Unite. It was approved by the page's administrator. It was about upcoming gun control legislation at Santa Fe, New Mexico.

Then, I get a notice that it was removed as it supposedly "violated" Facebook Community Standards on spam.

Here's the notice:

Immediately, I filed a protest on this.

It also has been shared at X. No problems have arisen there on the posting.

When it comes to Facebook and Zuckerberg, as I said before, "I have to see it to believe it!"

Gun Control Bills are Being Filed In Santa Fe

From Zac Fort of the New Mexico Shooting Sports Association:

The 2025 New Mexico Legislative Session starts on January 21, but pre-filing of bills is already underway and anti-gun politicians are wasting no time in filing bills that impact your rights.

HB12, a repeat of a failed bill last year, would expand New Mexico's "red-flag" gun confiscation law to expand who can file for a gun confiscation order and require the defendant's firearms must be surrendered immediately instead of within 48 hours.

HB38, would make it a felony to own a "weapon conversion device." The bill is just two pages of ambiguous language that is not clear what would actually be banned, despite the felony charge for possession of a "part or combination of parts designed and intended to convert a semiautomatic weapon into a fully automatic weapon."

A new concept that has been introduced, HB39, would seek to include more juvenile records in a NICS check in New Mexico.

Unfortunately, this is just the start. We are expecting more than a dozen bills to be introduced by February 20 - the last day to file bills for the 2025 Session.

Gun Control Is Racist

Besides being a stupid and ineffective policy (or policies) and much of it deemed unconsititional, gun control policies appear to be racist.

This is according to an article by John Stossel in Creators Syndicate.

It begins with:

Media scream, "Too many people have guns!"

Second Amendment activist Maj Toure says more people should carry guns.

"Everybody should be walking around," he says in my new video, "like, 'Oh man, I left my gun in the house. Let me go back and get it.' It should be as normal as a cellphone."

Activists and some politicians want gun control.

Toure says, "All gun control is racist!"

All?

"It was literally started to stop Black people from having the means to defend themselves."

Republican Victory Reveals Gallup Bias Against Guns

It looks like the Gallup Poll has a bias against guns as their poll taken before the election is skewed towards gun control.

It is getting so that practically every poll is not to be trusted anymore.

The New American reported:

A month before the November presidential election, Gallup conducted a poll on Second Amendment and firearm issues. Predictably, the group reported that most Americans (56 percent) want more gun-control laws.

A month later, voters went to the polls and voted into office pro-gun, pro-Second Amendment candidates. This included the reelection of Donald Trump with his pro-gun, pro-Second Amendment agenda.

Gallup’s Bias

A close look at Gallup’s methodology of reveals the organization’s bias.

Kamala Harris Has Already Shown Who She Is

It is very hard for a candidate for any office to hide their past, particularly their statements and policy positions with videos and documents surfacing.

Such is the case of Kamala Harris. She is trying to run away from her anti-Second Amendment past and the NRA-ILA has posted an article on her "big problem" as she has already shown who she is.

The article begins with:

At a town hall event on October 21 in Royal Oak, Michigan, Democrat presidential candidate Vice President Kamala Harris was asked how she would make “impactful and immediate progress around gun violence” if she was elected with a Republican majority in Congress.

In her by-now classic “word salad” style, Harris responded that she thinks of the issue “through the lens of many experiences,” then touched upon the “direct trauma for those who have been directly affected by gun violence,” and ended up at “the macropoint” – namely, the “false choice” between thinking that one is either in favor of the Second Amendment or that “you want to take everyone’s guns away.” She offered herself as living proof of this “macropoint” because she’s not only a gun owner “in favor of the Second Amendment,” but believes in “assault weapons bans, red flag laws, universal background checks” and other “common sense gun safety laws.”

It was made obvious at the start of the October 21 event that it was tightly scripted. Moderator Maria Shriver told an audience member that only questions that had been “predetermined” would be permitted, with no spontaneous questions from the floor. Even within this forced and stilted setup, Harris fell flat. It took her until the last few seconds of the over five-minute exchange to actually deal with the question. “We need common sense gun safety laws and I will continue, I’ve done it throughout my career, work with all of our colleagues across the aisle and I know that we can make progress,” she said, “but I’m not trying to take anyone’s guns away from them.”

The explanation for Harris’ emphatic new identity as a gun enthusiast and supporter of constitutional freedoms is that she is struggling to put her past under wraps, a past in which she wholeheartedly embraced extreme gun bans and confiscation, and which has now come back to haunt her.

Harris Is The One Lying About Guns

The flip-flopping Kamala Harris tried to ease people's fears that she would try to dismantle the Second Amendment during her debate with former President Donald Trump. Anyone with half a sense is not impressed.

She lied during the debate about many things and that included her stance on guns.

David Codrea in Firearms News examines her debate lies on guns in a new article in Firearms News.

He begins with:

“And then this business about taking everyone's guns away,” Vice President Kamala Harris prefaced a rebuttal in September’s presidential debate, joining forces with ABC News “moderators” against Donald Trump. “Tim Walz and I are both gun owners. We're not taking anybody's guns away. So, stop with the continuous lying about this stuff.”

Walz being a Fudd, a politician with an A rating from NRA who then turned around and embraced the Democrat citizen disarmament agenda after he no longer needed the votes, is well known (albeit not acknowledged by Party apologists). But per Reuters, Harris’s admission to owning a gun was “a revelation that surprised some voters but carried a deliberate political message.”

The political message is “Trust me,” and evokes nothing so much as the fable of the scorpion and the frog. And as for it being a surprise, it shouldn’t be.  Even Dianne Feinstein “kept a revolver in her purse” (an elitist “privilege” denied to her constituents), and Harris’ carrying on the elitist tradition first gained wider attention when she admitted to reporters at a Moms Demand Action rally in 2019 that she did, too, “for personal safety. I was a career prosecutor.”

Tim Walz 'A Political Chameleon' On Gun Control

Above, Minnesota Gov. Tim Walz.

Minnesota Governor Tim Walz, the vice-presidential running mate choice of Kamala Harris, is not to be trusted on the Second Amendment.

At one time, he earned the endorsement by the NRA. Now, he's gone totally Left Wing.

Newsmax reported (some snippets):

Randy Kozuch, chair of the NRA Political Victory Fund, said Gov. Tim Walz "is a political chameleon — changing his positions to further his own personal agenda," referencing Walz's evolving stance on gun control.

The Democratic vice presidential nominee was formerly an NRA-endorsed candidate running for statewide office in Minnesota in 2017. He earned an "A" rating from the NRA, and would often highlight those bona fides with a camp hat emblazoned with "NRA ENDORSED," reported The Washington Post.

Walz has since signed strident gun-control bills as governor in Minnesota, including expanded background checks on gun buyers and "red flag" protections that could strip guns from individuals considered dangerous to themselves or others.

Before being cast as Vice President Kamala Harris' running made, Walz took to social media to tout his "straight F's" from the NRA in recent years.

"And I sleep just fine," he said.
