Arthur Handy (Democratic Party) is a member of the Rhode Island House of Representatives, representing District 18. He assumed office in 2003. His current term ends on January 5, 2027.

Handy (Democratic Party) ran for re-election to the Rhode Island House of Representatives to represent District 18. He won in the general election on November 5, 2024.

Biography

Handy earned his B.A. in Marine Affairs from the University of Miami in 1990. His professional experience includes working as the Sustainable Rhode Island Coordinator for The Apeiron Institute for Sustainable Living and as Director of Communications and Advocacy for the American Lung Association.[1]

Elections for the Rhode Island House of Representatives took place in 2014. A primary election took place on September 9, 2014. The general election was held on November 4, 2014. The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was June 25, 2014. Incumbent Arthur Handy was unopposed in the Democratic primary, while Donald Gendron was unopposed in the Republican primary. Handy defeated Gendron in the general election.[5][6][7]

Handy won re-election in the 2012 election for Rhode Island House of Representatives District 18. Handy defeated William Mckenna in the September 11 Democratic primary and defeated Donald Gendron (R) and Mark Stoutzenberger (I) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[8][9][10][11]

Handy won re-election to the 18th District seat in 2010. He defeated John McCarthy in the September 14 Democratic primary election and defeated Republican Richard Nordlund in the general election on November 2, 2010.[12][13]

In 2008, Handy was re-elected to the Rhode Island House District 18. Handy (D) finished with 4,076 votes while his opponent Richard Nordlund (R) finished with 1,819 votes.[14] Handy raised $9,035 for his campaign fund.[15]
