Newberry currently serves as minority leader.
Biography
Newberry earned his bachelor's degree in American History/Urban Studies from the University of Pennsylvania in 1993 and his J.D. from Temple University School of Law in 1996. His professional experience includes working as an intern for the Philadelphia United States Attorney's Office and as a partner in the law firm of Donovan Hatem Limited Liabilities Partnership,[1]

The signature filing deadline for candidates wishing to run in this election was June 25, 2014. Steven Gamache defeated Michael E. Connolly in the Democratic primary, while incumbent Brian Newberry was unopposed in the Republican primary. Newberry defeated Gamache in the general election.[4][5][6]

Newberry won re-election in the 2012 election for Rhode Island House of Representatives District 48. Newberry was unopposed in the September 11 Republican primary and defeated Michael E. Connolly (D) and Linda Thibault (I) in the general election, which took place on November 6, 2012.[7][8][9]

Newberry won re-election to the 48th District seat in 2010. He was unopposed in the September 14 Republican primary and defeated Democrat David Lovett in the general election on November 2, 2010.[10][11]

2008
In 2008, Newberry was elected to the Rhode Island House of Representatives District 48. Newberry (R) finished with 2,775 votes and was followed by Raymond Church (D) with 2,582 votes and Gary Ezovski (I) with 1,763 votes.[12] Newberry raised $4,940 for his campaign fund.[13]
