Finally had a pipe freeze. We have an unfinished basement that usually stays above 40โ, plus I monitor it, so I wasn't concerned. However, it looks like there are localized areas of the basement that get colder than the spot I'm monitoring, and last night it got down to -10โ outside. Apparently that was enough. The problem was localized to one spot right at the pressure tank, and hitting it with a space heater for 10 minutes was enough to clear it. Nothing's damaged as far as I can see. Got lucky.
I guess I'll be doing some insulating. This is the longest, coldest cold snap I've experienced here and the bright side of it is that it's alerted me to a trouble spot as well as the limits of our current systems!
