Fun fact:

The hosta leaves have holes in them, the result of hail storm damage earlier that year.

A sight for sore eyes, or rather, Winter-weary eyes.

Antics

 January 21 is Squirrel Appreciation Day!

Squirrels are so cute.

Some of us are quite used to having squirrels look in our windows!

This is a chipmunk who visited us during a nature trail walk.
Chipmunks are squirrels, and make a 'chip chip chip' noise when they feel danger is near.

Squirrels invade birdfeeders in every garden, no?

And the living is easy...

My Sweetie Ink

It's Sweetnesday!

It's not easy recording something that is not flat, so please ignore the amateurish video above.

Sweetie, wearing her tiara and reclining upon an open book, with garden flowers behind; lily-of-the-valley, lilac, Virginia bluebells, and wood poppy...with a bee.

These flowers were in the yard when she was an 'O' cat, and the tiara and book represent her indoor retirement life.

And this photo is the inspiration for my next tat.

Monty

It's Caturday!

While on a recent plant nursery shopping trip, I reacquainted myself with tabby Monty.

Monty has acres of plants, trees, and shrubs to play in, with wild meadows, fish ponds, and old stone buildings too.

Not to mention the cat-crazy plant shoppers, who spent more time tracking Monty from greenhouse to greenhouse, rather than choosing items to take back home.

Monty's images was colorized by Prisma, using the Jellyfish filter.

3 Golden Alexander

3 Downy Skullcap

Managed to get them into the ground in the afternoon, then we experienced heavy rainfall overnight.

That's the way to do it, especially for a lazy gardener like moi.

Garden Wildlife

The idea was to fill the yard with native plants, so the wildlife could eat it's fill, pollinate their little hearts out, and make babies so the cycle can repeat.

The bees like the Ironweed.

A smallish groundhog pigged out on my Cup Plants and Milkweed.

Don't mind one bit; eat up, lil fella.

It's PO'Monday!

June, 2014: Celestial Paddy's strategies for hiding from the hot summer sun:

Lay around on the deck.

Hide in the garden.

Fall asleep on the food station awning.
Image taken through the screened back door.
The awning was an old folding card table, and The PO'M's bulk left a permanent dip!

Broken

 Da Boyz did NOT sail through their vaccinations as well as they did their dentals.

Wednesday, we got the thumbs-up on at their post-surgery check-up: all good!

They each were given a Rabies jab, and an FVRCP combination vaccine.

Thursday morning, neither would eat breakfast nor hang out with their humans.

Am telling you, I felt like I'd broken my kitties.

The vet's office invited us back, to check if either were running a fever, but they weren't.

They were given MORE jabs: a Benadryl shot and one for nausea.

Some gunk rubbed in their ears to stimulate appetite, and off we went again.

Thankfully, after a short while, The Hubby got them to eat a good-sized meal, and I fed them more later.

New Old and New New Yard Art

Have acquired a couple of new cat items for the gardens at Eastside Cats.

An old piece that we've had for years called Ghost Cat: gifted to us by neighbors.

New to us, but old; found recently at a garage sale.
I like the sound of the bells.

This new big kitty weighs a lot!
Here he is, waiting for me to pick him up to take him home.

Kitty now enjoying himself amid the hosta leaves, placed yesterday.

Purchased last year; I'm a sucker for star/moon combinations.

Looking a bit dirty, these three metal cats were collected over the years at local art fairs.

We are thankful for our yard and gardens.

I choose native species, and am always delighted with what comes up in the spring.

When a plant shows up that wasn't put in by the gardener, it's called a volunteer.

Sorry, this volunteer cannot stay, even though the berries are terrific for birds in Autumn.

Nope, The Hubby is allergic, and I don't want to find out if I am!

The first two plants were must-haves for us, since they refer to cats!

There are other plants with weird names: Doll's Eyes, Spiderwort, and Rattlesnake Master.

Every plant that I add to the garden is a native Michigan plant, meaning it was thriving here before Europeans walked through after 1492.

Native plants are acclimated to the climate; they don't need to be pampered.

In addition, they attract native bees, bugs, birds, and bats; creatures who are under stress from lawn chemicals and insecticides, noise pollution, loss of habitat, and diseases brought in by non-native hosts.
