Just Another Cop in Texas

A former San Antonio police officer fired for giving a homeless man a feces sandwich was promoted to serve as the chief of a South Texas police department, according to records reviewed by KSAT Investigates.

It takes a real mixture of peversity, cruelty and psychopathy to give a shit sandwich to a person. One would think that wouold be a disqualifying act for any sort of first responder or "caring professional" job, but what the hell, that's Texas. It's not like he was mean to a rich white guy.

Paxton is Yet Another GOP Crook

Might ask him how a guy who has been a public servant manages to amass a real estate portfolio of eleven residential propertes in several states worth over $7 mil.

Affluenza in TX

Adam Hoffman, a 49-year-old Waco attorney, was facing life without parole for the continuous sexual abuse of a young boy. Ken Paxton’s office took the case, sat on it for nearly three years and then offered him a deal to plead guilty to two misdemeanors and serve one day in jail.

Plus no registration as a sex offender, to boot.

If Hoffman hadn't been an influential attorney, he would have done life in prison, at least, until somebody shanked him. But Paxton dropped the felony counts and agreed to let him plead out to two misdemeanors. As it is, the judge sentenced him to two months in jail and he served one. He got out yesterday morning.

Juneteeth Should Be National Fuck Texas Day

Juneteeth celebrates the day that the slaveowners in Texas were forced, at bayonet point, to recognize that the Civil War was over and that their slaves were free. They knew the war was over, of course, but they hung onto their slaves until they couldn't.

That's one thing.

The other thing is the big lie over Texas's war of independence. For it seems that it was yet another war fought over the desire of rich white southerners to own slaves, as Mexico had abolished slavery and the rich white Texans wanted to own them. So when you see or read crap about "Remember the Alamo", keep in mind that it was a fight by slavers over abolitionists. Which is why the Mexicans let the two Black men who survived the fight 9one a slave, the other free) leave unmolested.

Both Nasty and Dumb as a Rock

The Republican governor of Texas, Greg Abbott, mistakenly offered his condolences to Jimmy Carter’s dead wife shortly after the Democratic former president died on Sunday.

Abbott’s statement sent “prayers and deepest condolences” to former first lady Rosalynn Carter and the rest of her family shortly after her husband’s death at the age of 100, as the Dallas news station WFAA reported. But Rosalynn Carter had died more than a year earlier – on 19 November 2023, at age 96.

Dumb, yes. worthy of ridicule, hell, yes. But it's still the kindest thing which that malignant bag of putrid pus has done in many a year.

ETA: Per Rodney Balko:

To be fair, Rosalynn Carter wasn’t a brown baby killed in a nest of barbed wire Abbott installed at the border. And she wasn’t murdered by a right-wing creep Abbott could pardon in a gross celebration of political violence. So it’s not really fair to expect him to have noticed.

Donald Trump, Greg Abbott and Ken Paxton Killed Josseli Barnica

So did John Roberts, Clarence Thomas, Samuel Alito, Neil Gorsuch, Brett Kavanaugh and Amy Barrett. They all have blood on their hands.

Josseli Barnica didn't have to die. She had a miscarriage. The doctors refused to treat her for forty hours, because of Texas law. She died from a subsequent infection that was entirely preventable.

Every doctor consulted by Pro Publica agreed that what happened to Ms. Barnica was nothing sort of state-mandated malpractice. She did not have to die. She died because she had the misfortune to be pregnant and miscarry in Texas, a state that places zero value on the lives of mothers because members of the Christian Taliban rule the state.

To put it succinctly, Ms. Barnica was sacrificed on the altar of the Cult of the Fetus.

Her death was eminently foreseeable. Her death was a consequence of Texan abortion law that was made known to the cultists who enacted that law and to the justices who cleared the way for the law.

They all have her blood on their hands.

This Cake Was Baked From the Start

Texas Gov. Greg Abbott issued a full pardon Thursday for [Daniel Perry,] a former U.S. Army sergeant convicted of murder for fatally shooting an armed demonstrator in 2020 during nationwide protests against police violence and racial injustice.

Everybody knew this was coming. The perp could have killed some more people and the outcome would have been the same. Once Putin's Favorite American Pundit began running his mouth, the pardon was a done deal. They only had to finish papering the file and stepping through the paces.

Texas Is No Place to be Pregnant

Kelsie Norris-De La Cruz tried not to cry as the doctor in the emergency room delivered one of the most frightening diagnoses a pregnant woman can receive.

The 25-year-old college senior was told she likely had an ectopic pregnancy, a highly dangerous condition where the embryo implants outside of the uterus. Without immediate treatment, the fallopian tube can rupture — and the patient can die.

The law that has prohibited abortions in Texas since Roe v. Wade was overturned now explicitly allows doctors to treat ectopic pregnancies. But when doctors at Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital evaluated Norris-De La Cruz last week, they refused to terminate the pregnancy, saying there was some chance the pregnancy was still viable, Norris-De La Cruz recalled. Instead, they advised her and her mother to go home and wait, according to medical records reviewed by The Washington Post.

Norris-De La Cruz ultimately received emergency surgery about 24 hours later at a different hospital in the area, at which point her ectopic pregnancy had already started to rupture. The OB/GYN who performed the procedure said that, if Norris-De La Cruz had waited much longer, she would have been “in extreme danger of losing her life.”

If you read on in the article, you'll see that even the anti-abortion women-ating cranks who wrote the law in Texas say that she should have been allowed to terminate her pregnancy. If the cowardly doctors at Texas Health Arlington Memorial Hospital aren't going to at least follow the law in Texas with regards to emergency abortions, then they should either switch to a different specialty or leave the state.

The bottom line is that if you are a woman of child-bearing age in Texas, you should move to a state where you are not considered to be state property.

Meanwhile, the murdering piece of dogshit who is the governor of Texas is blabbering about building a wall on the Oklahoma border to "keep out radical woke". As if that's needed, for nobody with more than a quarter of a brain these days is moving to Texas.

Remember, this is what Republicans have wrought. Don't vote for a Republican, for any job whatsoever.

Women: Republican Men Value Your Fetus Over You

The Texas supreme court on Monday overturned a lower court’s ruling that would have allowed a pregnant woman to get an emergency abortion under the medical exception for the state’s near-total abortion ban, granting a petition by Republican attorney general Ken Paxton.

And there it is. If your doctor thinks that you need an abortion to protect your health and/or to preserve your fertility, the men in the Cult of the Fetus will demand the right to sit in judgment of you. In essence, unless you can prove to those men that you're going to die, no abortion for you. Even if your doctor says you're going to die, if the judges in the State Fetal Review Court disagree, anyone who helps you will run the risk of going to prison.

Someone who is good with graphic design should remake the Texas state seal to show a fetus in the center.

Remember the official motto of Texas: Once Yer Born, Yer On Yer Own, Kid.

If You Are a Woman of Childbearing Age, Don't Live in Texas

The Christian Taliban government will interfere with your pregnancy and endanger your life, in order to please their low-wattage adherents.

The Texas Supreme Court on Friday night put on hold a judge's ruling that approved an abortion for a pregnant woman whose fetus has a fatal diagnosis, throwing into limbo an unprecedented challenge to one of the most restrictive bans in the U.S.

Forcing a woman to bear a dead baby or one that is going to die quickly is nothing short of religious-based cruelty. But that is where the GOP is living these days.

A Fetus is Not a Person When It Suits Texas

In defending themselves against a lawsuit, Texas officials have argued that an “unborn child” may not have rights under the US constitution, putting them in tension with arguments made by the state’s attorney’s general’s office as well as Republican lawmakers to support restrictions to abortion.

A guard at the state prison in the community of Abilene filed the lawsuit in question after she asserted that her superiors barred her from going to the hospital while she experienced intense labor pains and what she suspected were contractions while seven months pregnant and on duty.

The guard – who is named Salia Issa – was finally able to leave to go to the hospital two and a half hours after the pain started. She was rushed into emergency surgery after doctors were unable to find a fetal heartbeat, and she ultimately delivered the baby in a stillbirth. The lawsuit claims that if Issa had been able to get to the hospital sooner, the baby would have survived.
...
The prison agency and the Texas attorney general’s office have argued in defense of the lawsuit that the agency should not be held responsible for the stillbirth and that it is not clear the fetus had rights as a person. Both entities advance those positions despite consistent arguments made in lockstep by the attorney general’s office and Texas legislators that “unborn children” should be recognized as people starting at fertilization.

I understand that it's common practice to parties to take diametrically opposite positions in different litigation. But it looks pretty bad for Texas to claim that a fetus isn't a person when it's to their advantage to deny the very thing that they have been arguing for ages.

Even Republicans Agree That Ken Paxton is a Power-Mad Crook

A Republican-led investigation on Wednesday accused Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton of committing multiple crimes in office — including felonies — during an extraordinary public airing of scandal and alleged lawbreaking that plunged one of the GOP’s conservative stars into new political and legal risk.

For more than three hours, investigators presented findings alleging Paxton sought to hide an affair, misused his office to help a donor, skirted protocols “grossly outside” norms and built a culture of fear and retaliation in his office. Investigators told the GOP-led House General Investigating Committee that there was evidence that Paxton repeatedly broke the law over the years, including by misusing official information, abusing his official capacity and retaliation
.

Just another right-wing thug, like his Orange God.

Speaking of the Indicted Jefe of Mar-a-Lago, he and his cronies had the FBI and the DoJ investigating the Clinton Foundation for four years and found...(wait for it)...nothing. No convictions, no charges, just a four-year fruitless jerking off of Federal investigators, a thorough abuse of power by the TOFF, the Evil Keebler Elf and Butt-Monkey Barr.

(Yeah I know. Cue the QAnon conspiracy loons in 3....2...1.....)

Texas is For Morons

Every classroom in Texas could be made to display the Ten Commandments prominently, after lawmakers advanced a proposal to push more religion into schools.

A parallel bill also approved by the Republican-controlled Texas senate on Thursday would require educational establishments to set aside time every day for students and employees to read the Bible or other religious manuscripts, or to pray.

I'd like to see them read aloud, with emphasis on Nos. 8 and 9, from the floor of the Texas statehouse every hour that they're in session. But that's the thing about those publicly-pious clowns; they spend an hour in church each week showing their faithfulness to their lord Jesus and then they spend the remaining 167 hours of each week doing things that would make Jesus pound his head against a wall.
