Vance Advocates Surrendering to Putin in Order to Have Peace in Our Time

Make no mistake: His self-styled peace plan is nothing more than a surrender. His idea is what Russia keeps what it has taken and Ukraine is left on its own to whither. it's a plan Putin can love and it's based on the usual lies about how the Europeans have not been doing their part to support Ukraine. And it's a plan that likely sounds even harsher in its original Russian.

This is nothing more than an appeasement plan. But other than the USSR, it has been Republican ideology for generations that dictators are to be admired and appeased. Because they have a deep-seated hatred of democracy.

And anybody who doesn't think that Vance's appeasement plan won't lead to more aggression by Russia is pretty fucking ignorant.

Something Doesn't Add Up; Baby Bobby Ed.

An armed man impersonating a U.S. marshal was arrested at a Robert F. Kennedy, Jr. campaign event on Friday, the candidate said.

Kennedy said a man with two holstered weapons carrying a U.S. Marshals badge and federal ID approached him at a Los Angeles campaign event on Friday. The man claimed to be part of Kennedy’s security detail.

Kennedy said his security identified the man and apprehended him until Los Angeles Police arrived.
...
[The arrestee's] bail is set at $35,000 bail, according to LAPD jail records.

Little Baby Bobby is a huge conspiracy theorist, so let's apply his own sort of thinking to this, shall we? The guy who was nabbed has pretty minimal bail for a guy who supposedly posed a serious threat to His Assholiness. Which would lead to the question of whether or not this whole shebang was a setup.

Macron the Appeasement Monkey,
or
The Frogs Can’t Help Being Perfidious.

The ISW is reporting that Emmanuel Macron, the cheese-eating surrender monkey currently residing in the Élysée Palace, is basically advocating that Ukraine effectively surrender to Russia.

Make no mistake, that is exactly how the Ukrainians will see this. Macron is stabbing them in the back. The Ukrainians have the Russians off-balance and Macron is asking them to be nice to Ivan the Invader? Madness.

A ceasefire serves nobody's interests but Putin's, especially when Macron rehashes Russian talking points. Hell, he might was well go put forward his idiotic ideas for appeasing the Russians on the Tuckyo Rose show.

The Worst Thing About the Modern Appeasers

Is this: They are perfectly willing to throw the people who are willing to fight to defend their land under the bus. I have seen no reports to the effect that a significant number of Ukrainians are interested in giving up their territory to appease the Russians. The appeasement push is coming from people in Western Europe and the US; whether or not they have been taking Russian gelt is an open question.

The people who are doing the fighting, bleeding and dying against their enemy and ours are not interested in quitting. They know that they are fighting for their freedom from oppression, from torture, from tyranny.

That there are voices in those countries not doing the fighting who are advocating surrendering to Russian aggression is a stain on our national honor. Maybe we can start a GoFundMe to buy them one-way tickets to Moscow, starting with the First Couple of Appeasement.

The Appeasers Keep Advocating Appeasement

The WaPo ran an opinion piece by some clown who suggested that the United States pressure Ukraine to negotiate with the Russians.

Six years ago, I wrote a post about the folly of the admission of the Baltic republics into NATO. In retrospect, that was wrong. The Baltics are smaller and less populated than Ukraine. Russia could have begun Putin's plan to restore the Russian Empire there and probably would have, but for the fact that the Baltic nations are in NATO.

It's kind of funny that, now that the Russian's offensive to conquer Ukraine has not only stalled, but has been forced back from part of what they took, that the voices of the appeasers are growing louder. Russia clearly would like a break in the war to allow it to rebuild its army. Furthermore, a cease-fire agreement, now, would not slake Putin's ambition to restore the Russian Empire.

A cease-fire would, in effect, reward Russia for its aggression by giving her more of her victim's territory. Putin has not backtracked on his goal of conquering Ukraine. Any peace agreement, in order to have a chance of working, would require armed peacekeepers on the armistice line to deter future Russian aggression. The UN couldn't do it, because any move to enforce the peace would be vetoed by Russia, which has a permanent seat on the Security Council.

Pushing the Ukrainians to seek a cease-fire would require them and the world to close their eyes to Russian war crimes. it has seemed that every town retaken by the Ukrainian army has been followed by the discovery of torture chambers and the unearthing of

Appeasing aggressors has a poor track record of deterring future aggression. No matter what sort of agreement could be reached, Russia's track record is of finding a pretext to break its word. Only an utter fool would propose taking Russia at its word. But the WaPo found some jerkoff to suggest just that.

Meanwhile, in other Russian news that I was also originally wrong about:

Edward Snowden has received a Russian passport after swearing an oath of allegiance to the country that has sheltered him from US authorities since 2013, [Anatoly Kucherena,] his lawyer has said. ... “He of course is happy and thankful to the Russian Federation for his citizenship – he’s now a fully fledged citizen of Russia,” Kucherena said.

I'll bet heavily that Citizen/Comrade Snowden does not receive a mobilization order from his local draft board.

Truth That the Appeasers (and Putinist Republicans) Will Never Understand

Putin has not given up on taking all of Ukraine. Any peace or cease-fire, now, will only enable him to rebuild his army and try again. Land for peace has a piss-poor record of success with appeasing the territorial appetites of aggressors. It seems that those arguing that the Ukrainians should agree, now, to a cease-fire are people from countries with little to no risk of having Russian soldiers crossing their borders in the near-term. The Appeasement Caucus is not from nations that border Russia. It is certainly not filled with Ukrainians, who, by a very large majority, want to expel the neo-Tsarist invaders.

When you see self-styled deep-tinkers argue for negotiating a land-for-peace deal, know that they have either argued themselves into a corner or they are getting something for their stances.

It Would Seem That Being Labeled As an Appeaser is Less Comfortable For Democrats

The chair of the progressive caucus of the US House of Representatives, Pramila Jayapal, has retracted a letter sent by 30 of the members urging Joe Biden to engage in direct talks with Russia to end the war in Ukraine following a heated debate within the Democratic party about future strategy over the conflict.

In a statement issued on Tuesday afternoon, Jayapal made a dramatic U-turn, scrapping the letter that had been sent to the White House the previous day and implying it had all been a mistake. “The letter was drafted several months ago, but unfortunately was released by staff without vetting,” she said.

Allow me to point out the obvious: Those thirty dingbats all signed that letter. I find it extremely hard to believe that such a letter would have been drafted and signed months ago, then just stuffed in a file folder and forgotten and now, all of a sudden, some filing clerk finds it and sends it out?

When the shit hit the fan about the letter, Jayapal did not immediately disavow sending it. No siree, she tried to "clarify" things by expressing support for Ukraine while shanking them in the back. It's only when that didn't settle things that she switched to blaming some GS-2 clerk for mailing it.

That's just the sort of chickenshit move that one would expect from the caucus of appeasement. And it's a total fib, for their website has a press release in support of the Appeasement Letter.

Craven cowards, every last one of them.

Hitler Annexes the Sudentenland and Austria to the Reich After Sham Plebiscites, Declares Them Historically Part of Germany.

Oh, Sorry, Wrong War, My Mistake.

Russian President Vladimir Putin signed treaties Friday to illegally annex more occupied Ukrainian territory in a sharp escalation of his seven-month invasion. Ukraine’s president immediately countered with a surprise application to join the NATO military alliance.

Putin’s land-grab and President Volodymyr Zelenskyy’s signing of what he said is an “accelerated” NATO membership application sent the two leaders speeding even faster on a collision course that is cranking up fears of a full-blown conflict between Russia and the West
.

The historical parallels could not be clearer, although, no doubt, Tuckyo Rose and Comrade Tulsi would disagree. There are elements of the far-Right that either support Putin's aggression or give the same tried and untrue excuses for not getting involved that they trotted out in 1914 and 1939.[1]

History teaches us otherwise. Japan was not content with taking Manchuria. Germany was not content with taking Austria and Czechoslovakia. Putin will not be content with nibbling off part of Ukraine. Anyone who posits otherwise is either a Russian lackey[2] or a fool.

Right now, the nations of NATO as well as every other nation that treasures freedom and democracy should be funnelling everything to the Ukrainians that they can use. Macron needs to stop channelling Pierre Laval, grow a pair of balls and stop trying to please both sides of this conflict. The Gepards that the Germans gave the Ukrainians are nice and have been very effective, but some of the NATO nations should consider ceasing to fob off old stuff in reserve and, after training the crews, give the Ukrainians the really good stuff.

The time to stand up for freedom and liberty is now.

Tuckyo Rose Now Channeling Baghdad Bob

Right. Russian soldiers are throwing down their guns and fleeing, but that's somehow that's bad for the Ukrainians? Maybe he thinks that they are committing suicide as they overrun Russian positions.

At this point, one has to wonder who is paying that troll, other than Emperor Murdoch.

Tulsi and Tucker, This is Your Guy's Work

Moscow faced a new wave of revulsion and accusations of war crimes Monday after the Russian pullout from the outskirts of Kyiv revealed streets strewn with corpses of what appeared to be civilians, some of whom had seemingly been killed deliberately at close range.

The images of battered bodies out in the open or in hastily dug graves also led to calls for tougher economic sanctions against the Kremlin, namely a cutoff of fuel imports from Russia.

The mayor of a small town, Motyzhyn, was tortured, she and her family were killed and tossed into a shhallow grave by the Russians because they would not collaborate with them:

People tied up and then murdered.

The Russians, of course, deny it, saying, in effect, "who you gonna believe, us or the evidence?"

If you go looking around, you'll find people saying that we'll have real peace if we only give the aggressor the Sudentenland, or some other territory.

Oops, wrong war. But the principle applies. Aggression is not ended by appeasement. We will not achieve a lasting peace by giving Putin the eastern regions of Ukraine, or all of Ukraine. Haven't we learned that the hard way? Putin wants every square inch of the Russian Empire restored, he wants western Europe supine and at his feet and he wants the United States to withdraw from the continent.

I once thought that admitting the Baltics into NATO was a mistake. I was wrong. It's probably evident, now, that the only thing that keot Putin from first marching to the Baltic Sea was NATO. The Baltics have a third of the area of Ukraine and about 1/8th the population. They might have been an easier nut to crack, rather than invade the second-largest nation in Europe.

But I digress.

History is clear on one point: You cannot appease a dictator. You cannot appease a tyrant who is set on conquering his neighbors, and then the neighbors after that.

Putin is not hiding who he is. The fellow-travelers, the collaborators, they all need to be called out.

And the Ukrainins need to be given every tool that they can use to fight this war. The countries taking in Ukrainian refugees need to be assisted.

We can't undo the mistakes that were made in Europe during the 1936-1938 timeframe. But we damned sure don't need to repeat them.

Via Balloon Juice, Greg Greewald, who has been shilling for Putin, gets lambasted by his own words.

A low-wattage member of the Party of Stupid has been forced to retract a QAnon-worthy claim:

A Nebraska state lawmaker apologized on Monday after he publicly cited a persistent but debunked rumor alleging that schools are placing litter boxes in school bathrooms to accommodate children who self-identify as cats.

Sen. Bruce Bostelman, a conservative Republican, repeated the false claim during a public, televised debate on a bill intended to help school children who have behavioral problems

Bad news for the feed stores: Ivermectin, a drug favored by the Thwarted Thief of Democracy and his slavish acolytes, has been proven to be worth bupkis:

The antiparasitic drug ivermectin did not reduce the risk of being hospitalized with COVID-19, according to a large study published Wednesday in The New England Journal of Medicine.

Ivermectin was popularized as an alternative COVID-19 treatment despite a lack of strong evidence it helps. The recent study is among the largest that has failed to show a benefit.

In the study, researchers in Brazil compared more than 1,300 patients, some given ivermectin and others given a placebo, and found no difference between the groups.

Not that it will make a bit of difference to the MAGA crowd. Their Traitor-in-Chief has endorsed taking horse dewormer and that's all that matters to them.

A noted lunatic and lover of Putin is finding out that thumbing his nose at the courts doesn't work very well:

A Superior Court judge on Wednesday found conspiracy theorist and Infowars host Alex Jones in contempt of court and imposed a fine of up to $50,000 a day for what she called his “willful” violation of her orders that he submit to questioning at a deposition by families of victims of the Sandy Hook School killings.

After a series of delays, Jones failed to comply last week with repeated orders by Barbara Bellis that he appear for a deposition on March 23 and 24 in Austin, Texas, where his internet broadcasting company is located. Relatives of the children murdered in the 2012 school shooting in Newtown have been trying for years to question him in connection with their suit filed in response to his broadcast assertions that the shootings were a hoax.

Jones claimed he was unable to sit for the deposition because of a health condition that is aggravated by stress. But Bellis said medical explanations by two of Jones’ physicians were unconvincing. She said there is evidence that, even though Jones’ legal team said he was at home under medical care, he actually was broadcasting during the times the depositions had been scheduled and told his audience his condition was caused by a sinus blockage.

Not smart to claim that one is too sick to talk to lawyers but then broadcasts his stupid show to his wet-brained listeners.

The Companies That Keep Doing Business With Putin

There should be no surprise to this: Koch Industries continues to do business with the Butcher of Ukraine. Halliburton is another one.

The above link will bring you to an article that lists those companies that have stopped doing business with Putin and those who have blithely carried on, because they are amoral fucks.

These are the amoral fucks, as of today:

The list of Putin's sycophants in this country probably needs to be compiled. So far, it would seem to include Tucker "Tuckyorose" Carlson, Donald Trump and his spawn, Marjorie Taylor Greene, Nick Fuentes, Paul Gosar, Thomas Massie, Matt Rosendale, Glenn Greenwald, Candace Owens, almost everyone who appears on the Tuckyo Rose Show and most of the hosts on Fox News.
