Summary

createProvider stops guessing whether a request header is a secret from its name. Such guesses block services whose headers are not secrets. A person who reviews the agent's configuration in Setup will close this gap instead (Root cause 1 in the createProvider follow-ups doc).

 CreateProviderArguments::parse
   namespace syntax
- requestHeaders: reject Authorization, Proxy-Authorization, Cookie,
-                  X-API-Key, Api-Key, *-Token, *-Secret
   authentication
   credentialRoute
   source URL
 ...
 Provider Configuration (shared with Reef)
   requestHeaders: reject Authorization, Proxy-Authorization, Cookie,
                   transport headers, and any header authentication sends

The shared rule (crates/coral-catalog/src/configuration.rs) still applies to every createProvider call, so a request header cannot clash with sign-in. An agent can now send X-Api-Key or X-Subscription-Key as a request header, as an Owner can in Reef.

Evidence

  • Before: parse({ requestHeaders: { "X-Api-Key": … } }) → invalid_input at requestHeaders.X-Api-Key: "this header names a credential…"
    After: the contract accepts it; requestHeaders.Host still fails at the shared rule (an_invalid_argument_names_what_to_correct).
  • make rust-checks: 1472 tests passed.

Merge Danger

Door: two-way

Reverting restores the check. Providers created in between keep their headers.

Blast Radius: agents

Agents that createProvider can store a key in a request header that Owners read, until the Setup preview lands.

A name guess blocks services whose headers are not secrets. The shared
request header rule still rejects Authorization, Proxy-Authorization,
Cookie and any header that authentication sends.

P2 Badge Preserve reserved-header diagnostics for MCP sources

For an MCP URL with a still-reserved header such as Authorization, removing this check lets parsing succeed, but prepare_setup validates the discovery headers in crates/coral-provider/src/input.rs:80-87 and discards the field-specific error as Error::AccountInput; setup_error then reports authentication at crates/coral-run/src/builtin/create_provider.rs:435-438. The call never reaches configuration confirmation, so the caller is told to change an unrelated field and cannot identify requestHeaders.Authorization as the problem. Preserve the shared header diagnostic or validate reserved headers before MCP preparation.

P2 Badge Add regression coverage for accepted credential-shaped names

The change removes the only parse-level cases involving credential-shaped request-header names, but it adds no positive test that X-Api-Key or a suffix such as X-Auth-Token is now accepted; the remaining valid-arguments table only exercises X-Trace. Reintroducing the exact name heuristic removed by this fix would therefore pass this suite, so add an acceptance case beside CreateProviderArguments::parse. The repository requires each rule to be tested once at its owner.
