The conversion uses the Canvas API: the WebP image is drawn to a canvas and exported as JPG. This means the output is re-encoded, not just re-containerized. Quality settings for the JPG export can be adjusted in the conversion function if the default is not suitable.
WebP is a modern format with better compression than JPG, but not all applications support it. This tool exists for cases where WebP is the input and JPG is required.
