'Rituals' at Festival in Houston

Leslie Tucker Jenison and I (Dinner at Eight Artists) co-curated the special exhibit "Rituals" that debuted at Festival in Long Beach and was also shown in Houston.  Work by 42 artists who interpreted the theme "Rituals."  All of the quilts are 24" wide by 60" long.  The exhibit was sponsored by Havel's Sewing. More about Dinner at Eight Artists on the blog.

This is what we call the "coffee" corner of the exhibit

Bonnie McCaffrey came by and shot a vid cast of our exhibit, interviewed some of the artists who were at the show, and us!  It was a great treat!  This is quite a funny picture.

Highlights from Festival in Long Beach

"Rituals" exhibit by Dinner at Eight Artists - 42 artists;  we had a prime location for our exhibit.  Co-curated by Leslie Tucker Jenison and me.  We talked to viewers, led tours, and sold catalogs.  You can read more about the exhibit on the Dinner at Eight Artists blog

This is the front side that faced Main Street, in between Tactile Architecture and SAQA

The Artist's Village, coordinated by Kathy York, where all of the houses were made by artists who made houses that reflected their own personal style.  This was part of Tactile Architecture.  Leslie Tucker Jenison, Judy Coates Perez and I all have a house in this exhibit, and we happily set it up for the show!  It was extremely popular!

On Friday night at Festival, we have an artists dinner for Dinner at Eight Artists - with whoever is attending, and a couple of guests. It is always a special evening.  Table for 18.  Here's to all of you!

The trunks for shipping.  This exhibit will be shown at the International Quilt Market and Festival in late October, sponsored by Havel's Sewing

Our exhibit was a 'no photography' exhibit, and I don't think there were enough signs, or they weren't large enough, because the white glovers said it was a real problem with people taking pictures.  We didn't allow photography, because we were selling books all about the exhibit.

The Purple House - Part 10

Thank you for coming on this journey with me from start to finish on the design and making of this art quilt.  I have enjoyed the process and the comments from you, the readers of my blog.

"Make a Wish on the Purple House" 24W x 60H is my curators quilt for the upcoming exhibition "Rituals."  My art quilt is all about a ritual that my daughter and I enjoyed for a few years, when I was driving her to school in Old Towne, Orange.  There was this wonderful purple house in the midst of gray and brown houses, which we both felt was rather magical.  Everyday - as we drove by - we would say "make a wish on the purple house.'

It is for the special exhibit "Rituals" that will be shown at the International Quilt Festival in Long Beach, CA - July 26-29 and sponsored by Moore's Sewing Centers, and then to the International Quilt Festival in Houston, TX - Oct 31-Nov 4th, and sponsored by Havel's Sewing

Spooning

We have a ritual at Festival, when we dine together, that we balance a spoon on your nose.  It may sound silly, but it is really fun and we all enjoy the hilarious laughter and conversation that it creates.  This is Kathy York, an award winning quilt artist, creator of the Artists Village and totally fun person.

Cyndi Souder, the inventor of the Power Suit Challenge

Kathy Lincoln

Lisa Ellis (Sacred Threads, and the amazing on-line entry system for quilt shows)

Leslie Tucker Jenison (curator, fun maker, teacher, writer and partner in crime)

Frances Holliday Alford, the embellishment Queen

Rachel Parris, a totally enthusiastic and willing participant in all of our antics, writer, and the woman who begins each dinner at eight with the official "toast"

Judy Coates Perez, award winning mixed media quilt artist, teacher, writer and can always get a spoon to balance on her nose at every dinner.  Fellow diners - Kathy and Frances doing the balancing act as well.
Napkin head, sporting a spoon, only to realize that the napkin might have needed some 2-sided tape to get the spoon to stick.  LOL

Sue Dennis from Austrailia, who is quite an accomplished art quilter, and teacher.  She totally rose to the challenge at dinner.
Friday night - some of the artists from Dinner at Eight Artists - and the exhibit The Space Between all had dinner together at Spencer's.  So, the ritual continues with Barb Forrister, Susan Fletcher King and Judy Coates Perez
