StencilGirl

As I was cleaning out some fabrics in my studio, I found a pile of stenciled fabrics that I could use for this project.  These are all made with StencilGirl Products. The houses are my design, and I used a variety of other designers work too to enhance my fabric choices.  Looks a little like graffiti.

I am making one foot squares to sell at Craft Napa in January!  All of the fabrics were pre-fused with Mistyfuse

I love the variety of colors and the stencils create alot of texture and interest!

One of my favorite stencils creates dots.  I love the alphabet stencils too. I used Jacquard fabric paint and Liquitex acrylic paint on cotton fabric

Using the dot stencil, I was able to unify the fabrics together and give it a touch of whimsy!

My version of urban graffiti

and a zipper!  Having so much fun creating these one foot squares!

Organizing Made Fun!

I had a new design table made that is 6 feet by 8 feet with storage underneath, and room for your knees to sit all the way around the table on bar stools.  It is also on wheels. My goal is to keep it free and clear of stuff, like pin cushions, jars of tools, etc, so I can lay large works across the top.  The other end of the table will be for cutting.

So, to keep the table clear, I decided to buy a tall cart for everything.  I could roll it around the space, depending on what I needed as far as supplies.  Cost Plus Marketplace, and you can see that it's a tad bit higher than my table, which I love.  But, it's not the right color.

Painting it with Modern Masters Organic Red Acrylic Paint. Yep, your eyes are not fooling you, that's a Mistyfuse Goddess Sheet underneath it, so paint won't get on felt on the table. Nothing sticks to a Goddess Sheet.

Okay, yes, it is looking a little boring, but there is a remedy to that

Revisiting Older Works

Over the weekend, I received a package in the mail from C&T Publishing.  Two small quilts were returned from 2009.  What a nice surprise!  They were on display in their booth at Festival in Houston to promote Jane Davilla's new book, and Liquitex soft body acrylic paints..  This one is called "Zip It Up" 12x12- technique: stamping, combing, stencil, collage, using soft body acrylics by Liquitex.  It's fun to see that I still use zippers, stencils and paint. Only now, I am designing stencils for StencilGirl Products, which is really fun. The quilts are both made the way that i am making them now, fused commercial fabrics onto a wool blended felt foundation, and backed with the same (National Nonwovens TOY002) which is 35% wool..

.
She is titled "Thinking of Home"  11x11 There's that house again.  I called this painted fused collage and quilting. I used soft body acrylic paints by Liquitex, ink and mediums, stencils and inktense pencils.  I think it's pretty fun to be able to look back at older work to see changes in style, color, and subjects. I still put houses on heads, and love the imagery of home.  Now I will have to find a place to hang these in my studio. Oh, what fun!

Stenciling and Stamping

The past few weeks I have been spending many hours experimenting with stencils, and stamping.  This piece is about 12 inches wide by 8 inches high.  It has been stenciled, and stamped with the end of a Starbucks Double Shot can.

Like here, taking red acrylic paint, brushed onto the end of the can and stamped on the fabric

This is a foam stamp, that I made myself, with Fun Foam

and another one.  I like the stripes that this stamp creates

I cut the fabric to create 3 squares that are 6x6 each, and Mistyfused to black wool blended felt

Here is one up close and personal

I thought that these two houses would look nice on the square.  They are okay by themselves, but I really think they need another color to set them off

So, here is a nice red Batik.  I think it brings all of the colors together.  Next step will be to free motion machine quilt them.

Dress Up with Sizzix and Stencils

Love this die cut from Sizzix - it goes through the Big Shot die cutter

I put 4 pre-fused fabrics on the die cut, then stenciled the dots on the dresses

Using Deli Sheets, I can help the paint dry faster by placing it over the top and picking up the wet paint

Putting the fabrics together.  See the aqua fabric?  I put it on crooked.  So, I am going to fix that with another piece of fabric

Most times, this is how I stencil, after the fact, not on a bunch of fabric.  I used the alphabet stencils, industrial fence, flowers and leaves, doors and buttons, and what's the point.  Here is the link for StencilGirl Products

I am using this stencil brush and Blick Acrylic Paint in Black

And here we go!  Dress Up!  Just needs to be sewn!

House Blocks

I found myself making these little blocks with a house stenciled in the center.  I had some leftovers from other projects - the house stencils (using acrylic paint on fabric) and the washed wool felt from another workshop.  Batik fabric as the frame, and fused to washed wool felt.  The felt was nubby and bumpy.  Each one has some hand stitching on it, which adds a bit of whimsy to the project.

So I decided to make a book with them, and arranging them back to back, mixing up the colors a bit (the felt colors)

I zig zagged them together on my BERNINA.  It was a bit of a challenge, since the washed wool felt was a bit thick and unwieldy.

Here's the other side!
Up close and personal, so you can see the details

I love the purple paint on lime green!

and blue on orange

and lime on purple

and purple on aqua

Then I had 2 extras, that didn't have any hand stitching on them, so I made a cute pot holder!  The binding is also stenciled.

Here's the other side!  I love this stencil.  So many possibilities!  You can buy it here. Thanks for stopping by!
