Quilts, Quilts, Quilts!

It is pretty exciting now that the month of July is here!  I have work in three exhibits in different states and I wish I could be there for all three. My first commitment made before any other exhibits popped up was for the Visions Art Museum, and I will be there for the opening weekend!
Opening Reception is Saturday, July 15 from 5-7pm; Artist Walk & Talk is Sunday, July 16 at 11:00am. I have four pieces in the 'Funny Bone' exhibit. I will be at both events!
Fierce Women is part of my four-some of quilts that I have made for this exhibit at the Visions Art Museum
'In Death" at the Wisconsin Quilt and Fiber Arts Museum in Cedarburg. Opening Reception is Saturday, July 15th. Museum Hours are Wed-Sat 10am - 4pm; Sun 12pm - 4pm
My quilt 'moments' about the notes that I wrote in my journal when my mom was in hospice care and dying. I know, cheerful, right? It's really a labor of love to my parents.
The 'threads of resistance' exhibit opens at the New England Quilt Museum, 18 Shattuck Street, Lowell. Opening Reception is Saturday, July 15 at 11:00am. Exhibit runs July 11 to September 9th. There is a book for this exhibit and you can buy it on Amazon here
My quilt '100 Days' of outrage will be part of the exhibit.  You can view all of the quilts in the traveling exhibit here

Rama Lama Ding Dong

Rama Lama Ding Dong - isn't it just happy?  I so enjoyed making this art quilt as the co-juror for Dinner at Eight Artists newest juried invitational - "Affinnity." The size was another story - 40x40 - way out of my comfort zone, but it is part of the challenge. The swirl or spiral is probably one of the most difficult shapes to cut out by hand.  Sizzix launched two new die cuts at Spring Market.  One fits the Fabi (Big Shot) with a 6" die and the large one works with the Big Shot Pro, around 12." This is made with layers of fabrics, all fused with Mistyfuse and free motion machine quilted.  This art quilt will be shown in a special exhibit "Affinity" at the International Quilt Market and Festival in Houston in October 2015

This smaller version is my sample quilt for the class that I am teaching at Festival in Houston.  It uses the same concept, two Sizzix machines and 3 dies.  #422 Thursday, October 29 - 9am to 5pm.  Students bring their own fabrics, I provide the Mistyfuse and felt for the foundation. Color and contrast, design, and free motion machine quilting. 18x24 size quilt.  This will be so much fun!

Quilts at The Muzeo in Anaheim

I was honored to be asked by my friend, Terry Waldron to be part of the Quilts exhibit at the Muzeo Museum and Cultural Center in Anaheim.  18 contemporary quilts by nine California artists.  These are Terry's two art quilts above.  There is an exhibit of traditional quilts (26) from the International Quilt Study Center in Lincoln, Nebraska  and an exhibit of art quilts by California artists.
This is a close up of one of the traditional quilts, mini yo yo's.  Oh my! I can appreciate the work, but I don't want to do it.
One wall of many in the traditional quilts section.  I love this one, although I apologize for the quality of the photo, taken on my iPhone.
The art quilt gallery - one section.  Sheila Frampton Cooper's colorful quilt on the far left, my 2 quilts, and one large one by Joe Cunningham.
The sign at the opening of the exhibit, which should have been at the top of the post, but when you are blogging on your iPhone, it just comes out a different way.
Outside of Muzeo Museum and Cultural Center.  241 S. Anaheim Blvd, Anaheim.  Open Tuesday to Sunday.  They are doing docent tours too, which I think would be great to attend.  Wednesday 1:00 and 3:00; Thursday, Friday and Saturday 11:00 and 1:00, Sunday 1:00 and 3:00.  Admission is $10.00
The California artists in attendance for the artists opening.  L-R, Terry Waldron, Sherry Kleinman, Sheila Frampton Cooper, me, Linda Anderson, Lura Schwarz Smith and Kerby Smith.  Artists that could not be there are Joe Cunningham and Cindy Cooksey.
Me and my two quilts.  "Make a Wish on the Purple House" and "The Happy Dance" - originally made for Dinner at Eight Artists exhibits - Rituals and An Exquisite Moment.
Me and Sherry Kleinman.  The center section of this quilt, third image down is of a groups of us from Dinner at Eight Artists, who hung an exhibit at Festival in Long Beach, and Sherry took a photo of all of use looking at our phones, for this particular quilt.

The other side of the gallery - L-R, Lura Schwarz Smith, Linda Anderson (2) and Sheila Frampton Cooper
Two by Sherry Kleinman and two by Lura Schwarz Smith
Two by Kerby Smith
Two by Cindy Cooksey and one by Sherry Kleinman.  It is such a fabulous exhibit.  If you get a chance to see it in person, you will be astounded by the work, in both traditional and contemporary worlds of quilts.
