It's a spider, but I took so long to take photos you can't really tell.
I have been planting potatoes in the pasture garden this year (along with herbs that I will probably never use, and marigolds); and today I planted some onions.
While unwrapping the hose from it's winter spot on a t-post, I found this ugly... spider. I didn't get good pictures, sorry. (Almost didn't get any because I HATE BUGS and especially SPIDERS.
I think it is some sort of jumping spider? But I haven't been able to identify it because I don't like to look at spiders. Ha!
Our pecan trees are blooming.
My train of thought has derailed, so that is all you get for now. Have a good evening and a wonderful Friday! ♥

What is it with August?
I was in the pasture, putting hoses out to water pecan trees, both young and old.
Something is out there devastating our pecan crop. We're finding all kinds of green pecans on the ground.
Whole ones, ones with just a bite taken out, and some that have been obviously eaten out and are just little pieces.
Hubby is pretty sure they are squirrels, but green pecans?
It's really annoying. We're afraid we won't have a crop this year. :-(
Any ideas for what to do, other thank squirrel stew?
Back to the hoses. I had just set a sprinkler in an area where we have 3 young pecan trees and a couple of older ones.
I was walking back to the mower when I gave a low scream. You know, "Ah!", and jumped over.....
a SNAKE IN THE GRASS!

I think it was about 2 and a half to 3 feet long. Scared the bejeezus out of me, I'll tell you.
I took a look at it. Closer than I should have. It seemed.... dry? Like it was getting ready to molt, maybe. I thought it might be dead. I took this picture with my phone. Istupidly pushed at its tail with my shoe. It didn't move.
Lucky me.
Anyway, I'll tell you the same as I told my hubby. That was the end of my bravery. No, I did not take more pictures, and no, I did not look for the head.
First a stubborn gator, and now a snake.
I had a feeling, and he confirmed, that it was probably a cotton mouth. A poisonous snake.
After I turned on the sprinkler, and checked the other hoses, I went back to check the sprinkler coverage.
I didn't see the snake or where it might have gone.
Needless to say, I decided my time in the pasture was done for the day.
Besides, it was 90 some degrees and I was already sweating like a pig.
You all have a wonderful weekend! If you celebrate, have a safe Labor Day.
We'll be laying close to home. No money until next Tuesday.
I'm glad August is over. Come on fall! Take care! :-)

EWWW!!!
WARNING - GROSS ALERT! - YOU HAVE BEEN WARNED!
There was a measly 20% chance of rain yesterday and we had one heck of a thunderstorm start up about 7 PM.
I had the door open to one of the rooms in the house - they all have doors to the porch - and saw hubby quickly taking the tractor to the garage.
We have a raccoon that has taken up residence in the pasture and hubby says it is not afraid of people...
Anyway, I was sweeping out who knows how many years of trash and mouse poo. *wrinkles nose*
I had called hubby in to help with his three piece tool box. We were watching the storm while I swept. We are going to make that room a work room for now.
I have bifocals, but I still don't see well. Go figure.
As I was sweeping stuff out, I thought there was a piece of insulation on the fireplace hearth. I did think it was strange, as that 120 year old house does not have any.
But, I tried to get it with the vacuum anyway.
And then I realized.
It was not insulation.
It was a big dead rat on a sticky trap! EWWW!!!! Is what I said.
"What?" is what hubby said, as he came in from the porch.
"A dead rat on a sticky trap!" was my reply.
Fortunately hubby disposed of it for me.
I don't like pest control services that do only half the job you pay them for. :o/
In better news, we have ONE CABINET in the kitchen!
I will be staining more today. We bought 'unfinished' cabinets because they are cheaper and neither of us is good at building such things.
And I'd like to start learning how to make home made bread this year, haha.
Hope you all have a wonderful Sunday! ♥
