About Me

Last weekend in April already.

Did I mention that youngest boy is living with us now? Pretty sure I did. It's been working out well so far.

All of our apple trees (all 3) have bloomed now. Now to wait and see if they bear any fruit. They are only two years old though so I won't be too broken hearted if they don't.
However, the fig tree we planted doesn't even have any leaves yet, so I am thinking we need to toss it and buy a new one!

I found out that grape vines, especially when young, don't like humidity.... All we mostly have in Louisiana is humidity. I showed these photos

to Stark's on FB, and they said a copper fungicide would help to keep the rest of the leaves and possible grapes from turning brown like these did.

We have a wren living in the garage. She built a nest in hubby's cabinet because everything is neat and he keeps the doors closed behind a can there.
I don't like to bother it because I don't want her to abandon her babies; but you can just barely see one, or maybe two, if you look at the center of the nest.

We may get some bad weather down this way. And off to the East. But it may start in the Midwest. Hope you all have a SAFE, Blessed weekend where ever you live. ♥

Beware ugly bug!

It's a spider, but I took so long to take photos you can't really tell.

I have been planting potatoes in the pasture garden this year (along with herbs that I will probably never use, and marigolds); and today I planted some onions.

While unwrapping the hose from it's winter spot on a t-post, I found this ugly... spider. I didn't get good pictures, sorry. (Almost didn't get any because I HATE BUGS and especially SPIDERS.

I think it is some sort of jumping spider? But I haven't been able to identify it because I don't like to look at spiders. Ha!

Our pecan trees are blooming.

My train of thought has derailed, so that is all you get for now. Have a good evening and a wonderful Friday! ♥

I think we missed spring

It's been mid 80's all week.

Saw something neat today though.

Black-bellied whistling-ducks. I saw ducks in a mud puddle when we were turning down the road home. Hubby didn't believe me so we turned around at the co-op and drove back.

They have orange beaks! We'd never seen ducks with orange beaks (though Cornell Ornithology says they are pink). They looked orange to us, looking into the sun.
Apparently they summer in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas for mating.

Planted some potatoes and herbs today. I think I got a little too much heat, but I'm feeling a little better now.

Hope you are all doing well! ♥

Happy Earth Day.

Here's hoping for many more.

God bless. ♥

We had a quiet Easter Sunday

Hope you all had a good one. I've tried to catch up a bit.
We fried a turkey breast. It turned out pretty good, surprisingly.
Haven't taken a lot of pictures. But I took one yesterday while watching the fryer.

With a little luck, and the grace of God, we may get our first grapes this year. :-)

I started this post about 4 hours ago and forgot about it. Oops.

Hope you all have a wonderful week! ♥

Thank you, Linda.

Looking forward to seeing these bloom. :-)

Have a Happy Blessed Easter. ♥

Ouch

Still not done with all the thistles. We've got other things going, and my shoulder has really been bothering me. I should probably go to see the doctor, but I'd rather share a few pictures.

These thistles didn't actually poke me. They stuck to my glove. You get an idea of the size of the thistles here. I've filled a 55 gallon drum, and then some, with thistle 'flowers'; but I still have a way to go as you can see from these photos.

The wild blackberries are blooming.

And so is one of our apple trees! :-)

Maybe we'll get an apple this year.

Hope you're having a wonderful weekend!

One mystery solved.

Hercules' Club.
It's across the fence on a part of the property that belonged to hubby's dad many many years ago, but doesn't any more.

Hope your week is going well!

Was awesome!

Hope you all have a wonderful, safe Sunday. ♥

We are back.

The weather was crazy when we left last Friday! It rained so hard we couldn't hardly see the front of the hood on the truck. And we went through several storms like that. It mostly rained in some form every day we were gone. Louisiana had a tornado watch until that Saturday, but we didn't see any damage from that, so we were blessed.

Brought our youngest son back with us as there aren't many jobs in NC, and certainly none where we used to live.
Didn't take a lot of pictures there, but have taken a few here.

This is some garlic that I did not pull up before I realized that garlic needs to grow a full year before harvest. At least, that is what I read somewhere.

We've redone the grape supports this year, for the space that hubby gave them. We'll see if we did good or need to rethink entirely.

Redid the potato tower, too. Now it's basically two raised beds like this, with peas.

And yes, we still have the redneck planters, too. Trying celery again, though it gets much too hot here, so I'm not sure why. That is a garlic that we kept too long.
The other planter, the lilies are growing, and I planted some marigolds.
The bin in lower right that I did not take a picture of, for reasons that escape me right now; I planted a couple of tomato seeds in, some purple beans and some carrot seeds. We'll see how it goes.

Hope you are all doing well. I know the weather is still crazy!
Have a great Friday!
