Auto-Mo-Billy

This one started on the stupid idea of the name. I wanted to get Rockabilly songs on this pick that all had something to do with cars. Automobiles. I am not really a car guy. My wife. She knows cars. People all around me know cars. My next door neighbor was a champion racer. Friends that love cars. I've actually had some cool cars in my life, but mostly it wasn't on purpose. I always wanted a VW Bus, so I had one of those. I've had English sport cars. An MG-B GT (which was fun just because of all the letters), a Spitfire (wouldn't mind getting another one of those.) I once had a car that had parts of five different model names on it (and five different shades of red paint - I called it my Hot Tamale). My fastest car ever was not my 1964 Mustang which I ruined by making it fast and loud and modern, but an old VW Bug that was also converted to be fast. Porsche engine. It was fun, but I got too many tickets in it. This comp is missing some big name car songs, but I don't care.

What's The Connection? Oldsmobile

More car types in this connection. Today we have Oldsmobile. And there used to be lots of these. Older songs, older bands. Less people made these into hotrods and probably fairly rare now. But people loved this brand for quite some time. I never owned one. Never drove one either. But I knew a guy who knew a guy who tricked one out. That's all I got. I just know they must have been a merry car. The cover is another comic version with similar background. And I did add a jingle for Oldsmobile.

What's The Connection? Corvettes

I included songs with titles that had Corvette in it as well as Stingray. I know the connection cover has a yellow Corvette on it and that red Corvettes are especially popular in song, but I liked this rendering of a yellow Corvette. Prince is probably the most popular song about the car, but there are other versions that are good and many other great songs about Corvettes and Sting Ray Corvettes. The Marketts and Jan & Dean come to mind. It's crazy but this car  has been popular among artists for as long as the car has been out. And still today. This one will go by fast. I've unfortunately, never owned one, but I've driven several. They are fun.

What's The Connection? Corvettes

On The Road Again 1

Everyone makes a driving tape at one point or another (if you make mixtapes). I've made several. Been driving a lot. Used to have CD changers in my cars and I would just swap out the carousel depending on which car I was driving (all pioneer at one point although I had an alpine change in one, but pioneer was more reliable). Then it was iPod connections. Now everyone just packs a phone with your pick. But the concept is the same. Put in a bunch of songs that are conducive to driving. I had this set of volumes that I used forever. Here is volume one. I've used it on many a highway. My only complaint about this one is that you have to play Kraftwerk right away. It's not much good for in the middle of the night or after driving for awhile. But that's why it is the first song.

What's The Connection? Cars 1

You could make a thousand WTC with the word Car in the title. All but two of these do. But you'll agree they are car songs. I have made several comps about being on the road and about driving and drive songs. But this is the first Car one. Won't be the last. I am working on car brand names and those will be coming up. If you have some good suggestions, please leave a comment. For example, I only know of one song with Barchetta in the title. And a lot less VW songs than I thought I knew. But maybe I can group sporty race cars together? Barchetta with Ferrari and Porsche? I don't know right now. Still working it out. But you get this in the meantime. My first pick of Car songs. And amazingly none by the Cars.
