Ése 4

Yesterday I primed you for this pick, go back a day and get all the links for the earlier volumes. I always rail against Cinco De Mayo being a non-Mexican, Mexican holiday. It does exist, but it's not as big as it is in the United States. I am not going off today, today I will just join in and have a Modello Negra and some Pozole (one of my favorite soups). I can never make it quite right. My neighbor (Eva) from years back used to make the best Pozole ever! She tried to teach me. She lived across the street from us. Her kids played with mine and I just always got invited when she cooked Mexican food. Great family! Anyway more Dude Rock with a latin base.

Ése 3

Well, to get ready for tomorrow, this is volume 3 of my latin dude pick Ése. It may have veered a little, but tomorrow I veer back. The idea is latin or chicano rock, songs a dude would like. You tell me do you think some dude (Chicano or not) would dig these songs? I think so. BTW, notice that I use the tilde over the "e" in some places and not the others, it's because it is a pain to alphabetize. No other reason. So, ese, enjoy the tracks.

ExiCumbias 2

I know it's not Cinco De Mayo yet, but I was excited about this compilation. I think of it as the floorbangers of cumbia. You probably could play almost any one of these when someone asks for a cumbia and they would be happy. Now it does wander a tiny bit since Cumbia wanders a bit. I have a few variations of cumbia, not all just one part of the world. If you like cumbia, you'll love this pick. If you have no idea about cumbia, this is a good sampling. Check out volume one (ExiCumbias 1) which I did post last year on Cinco De Mayo, for more, but this one is the one with the bangers. That doesn't always mean the hits, just the ones that will get or keep someone on the dancefloor.

ExiCumbias 2

30 Los Mirlos - La Danza De Los Mirlos
31 Margarita La Diosa De La Cumbia - Que Bello

39 Los Tucanes de Tijuana - La Chona

ExiCumbias 1

This Cinco de Mayo pick is fun, but not necessarily having to do with Mexico. Not that Cinco De Mayo really has much to do with Mexico either. It's become a holiday for all latinos in the US. Which makes this a little more appropriate. Cumbias were actually a Colombian thing, but appropriated by many Latin countries including Mexico. There are bands all over that play cumbias. These are some of my favorites. I do have a few on my Exitos series of comps that aren't on here. Maybe I will peel them off and add them to volume two. Exitos just means hits and I made one bad pun to start naming these and I stuck to it although it makes no grammatical sense in Spanish. Lo Siento. I'm sorry. That's just the way it is. Happy Cinco de Mayo anyway.

Exicinco (Exitos 5)

More of the Exitos series of picks. This pick is volume five and perfect for Cinco De Mayo. Some of my favorites mixed together. Different genres within the Latino "label" and all with my weird naming convention. Pardon me if you actually speak or write fluent Spanish. I had four years, but I obviously learned more in the restaurants I worked at and the soccer teams I played on. I even coached youth soccer and had to be able to speak my own broken Spanish to the parents (the kids had no problems with English). Having visited Central and Southern America and lived in areas of town where I was the only non-Latino on the block, I got exposed to some great music from all over, especially once everyone knew I was the "white" DJ who actually liked their favorite songs and played them at the block parties. These can be played at any mixed event and keep people happy. And have a great Cinco De Mayo!

What Is The Connection? Tequila 2

Happy Cinco de Mayo! This is part two of the Tequila Connection. If you didn't find your favorite tequila song yesterday, I am pretty certain it will be here today. I didn't get every tequila song or margarita song, but I got a lot over these two days. Have a safe and fun Cinco de Mayo! Drink some beer (or water) in between your tequila to slow it down. Get a lyft, don't drive. But do listen to these to these great tequila songs. There is something for every taste! But if I missed your favorite Tequila song, please leave it in the comments in case I ever make volume 3. Not too unlikely.

What Is The Connection? Tequila 1

Tomorrow is Cinco de Mayo. A fun holiday for not just Mexicans, but appropriated by all Americans. Wasn't a huge holiday until Mexican in the United States took it over. It actually celebrates a minor victory of one of Mexico's wars way back when. It is not Mexican Independence day! I thought that for years and I should have known better. I was born in California and school kids there learn all sorts of Mexican history. Or maybe I did get taught that, but I was just a bad student? Either way now it is the day that everyone drinks and drives around in lowrider cars with Mexican flags on them. SO to celebrate I have a couple of days worth of Tequila songs in this connection. My favorite alcoholic drink although I am not drinking anymore. I miss a really good Añejo. Sipping Tequila can be very tasty. Most of these songs are not about that, though. Be careful! Tequila can be dangerous.

Mariachi Inspired

Cinco De Mayo is one of those holidays that is American, but pretends to be Mexican. It isn't celebrated, really, in Mexico. It isn't Independence day for Mexico. It was mostly in California and it celebrates a small war that Mexico won (against all odds, like the Alamo, but with better outcome). It is mostly about beer and getting drunk and causing havoc in the streets of the city with Mexican flags on your low rider. But that has nothing to do with this pick. These are all songs that were inspired by Mariachi bands. Listen and you'll get it. Now drink beer, get arrested. Congratulations! You celebrated Cinco De Mayo!
