Across the span of a decade, INTERNET CLUB's music has been unspeakably influential to the vaporwave sound, from front to back. Visual aestheticism, a specific approach towards their cultivation and repurposing of sounds, and most importantly, an intentional level of subtle complexity applied towards the (on its face) simple formula of classically styled vaporwave.

"FORMAT BLUE" is one of the most forward advancements of these sounds and concepts, mellowed and given a newer tone and theming than previous work. Something softer lays over top the samples, more delicate and fragile. Halfway between clarity and the hiss of tape that has become popular as a backing track for similar albums is the unique, subtle sound of digital compression that defines the album.

Loops and cuts stumble onto, over, and around themselves in an almost incomparable fashion, combining expertly with the effects texture to create something perfectly dreamlike. Skipping over and back onto thoughts as they come to mind, then flutter away again, only to come back in waves again and again.

There's something fundamentally compelling about the way that "FORMAT BLUE" presents itself and carefully arranges every minutiae of its runtime that hasn't been accomplished before, which likely will not be captured by the wider sampling world again any time soon.
