A longing, wistful, introspective summer consolidated into an album, a point of time fixed to a piece of plastic which, in turn, exists to seal the sounds themselves on magnetic tape underneath a more pristine shell.

Due to scalpers ruining everyone's fun, we must impose a maximum of one of this item per order.

about

Constant evolution has been something that defined the ethos of qualchan.'s music. Over its progression through the 2010s (from its inception in the late 2000s), there were many strides being taken over many years, one at a time, with others being more subtle than the last. Central fixations around themes, of nature, of the end of the days of man, of a deep love for the world around us were carried by an ever-changing methodology of expressing itself.

From the meditative sounds of 'zazen.' to the more experimental 'one hundred years.', it is impossible to box what qualchan. is capable of into one sound. 'goodbye to all that.' is an album that is fundamentally about change itself, fitting for an artist of their caliber and nuance. Of change in scenery, of a shift of comfort, of being dropped straight into the next point in life.

Appropriately, there's a sense of half-stability to the texture of sound which makes up the album, of near-psychedelia, of the dry heat of summer that seems to shift the air itself just as it skews the album's sound. Cascades of audial smoke rise, shimmer, and then dissipate up into the air, with qualchan.'s expert ability to piece together engaging, nuanced loops are given new perspective from this ephemerality that much of the tape loop-centric albums released previously were characterized by, serving these aforementioned central themes.

There is much that could be said about qualchan., having left a mark on many different experimental scenes. Both in the tangible world and online, the art around them was subtly and irrevocably changed by their dedication to embodying themself into their art. 'goodbye to all that.' is an excellent example of this principle, while also simply being quite a good album on the surface as well as underneath.
