TINY TREASURES

It was exciting to be able to get these close-up pictures of the Hummingbirds this afternoon! I've admired the pictures that others have made and wondered if I would ever be able to get a good picture of these beautiful birds. Thanks to Jeep for setting up his camera with a remote shutter release, and for giving me advice. The first few were blurred because the camera was set on automatic and it was focusing on the trees beyond the feeder. I set it on manual and used the flash and the remote and got a dozen or more of what I think are pretty decent pictures for an amature. Now I have to comsult my bird book to try to find out what kind of Hummingbirds these are. Needless to say, getting these shots 'made my day'!

UFO? (double click picture for larger view)

Coming through Texas on I-10 last summer, we spotted a small speck above the horizon ahead of us. We called it a UFO because it was certainly unidentified. It seemed to be following the same highway that we were traveling. After many, many miles we gradually caught up with it enough to tell that it was a blimp. This was the first one we had seen in years. We finally got close enough to stop and make some pictures of it. After checking it out, I don't think I would want to ride in one of these!

Today's Joy!

Every day brings some new joy! This is today's joy! It's the bloom on a Fuchsia plant that is in a hanging basket on the veranda.

"Sing praise to the Lord, you saints of His, and give thanks at the remembrance of His holy name. For His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life; Weeping may endure for a night, But joy comes in the morning. Psalm 30:4,5

Memories----double click picture for full screen. Use back button to return.

This is in Yosemite National Park. There were so many wonderful vistas, it was hard to choose a sample. Granite mountains pop up from the valley floor like giant mushrooms! We did not spend nearly enough time exploring this scenic park.
This is Multnomah Falls in the beautiful Columbia River Gorge near Portland, Oregon. There are several of these spectacular waterfalls flowing off Mt. Hood, but I think this is the tallest one.

One picture can't possibly do justice to the gigantic Grand Canyon in northwest Arizona! Neither can it be described with a thousand words.....you just have to be there. Even then, you just can't take it all in!

Some days I may not see anything new to photograph and post here, but I always have my memories! Searching through my pictures for one particular shot I thought, "How wonderful it is that I have all these pictures so I can relive the happy times we had on our vacation/honeymoon!!!" It was our "trip of a lifetime".

A Little Bit of Beauty

Every day brings at least a little bit of beauty. Some days you may have to look for it a little harder. Today I found this beautiful moth sitting on the propane tank. I like the way his green shadow contrasts with his yellow/orange wings.

The Baby Bluebirds Have Flown!

Just one little sad note: The baby bluebirds flew away yesterday or , heaven forbid, last night in the stormy weather. I had so hoped to see them fly! There are no trees, shrubs or anything to protect them until them have flown a long way. I just hope the neighbor's cat didn't get them or the Armadillo that I encountered last night when I went out to turn off the light I had left on in the storage building. I tried to run it off and then I thought, hey, I could maybe make a picture of him. When I went back with the camera, he was gone :-(

Dobbin and Freddy

Our neighbor's friendly horses come to the fence to greet me anytime I'm in the yard. I think I should take them a treat or two next time because they are famous now. I posted their pictures on Wunder Photos (WeatherUnderground) yesterday and they got quite a lot of fan mail! It seems that a lot of people like horses. Of course, the brown one is a mule, but I still call him a horse. I have no idea what their real names are....I just thought of hitching Ole Dobbin to the sleigh and 'Freddy the friendly horse' just came to mind. They are just big pets and I enjoy having them nearby.

Today's Blessing

I just had to post these pictures of the Indigo Bunting although the quality of the picture is poor. It was early morning..still a little dark and they were shot hurriedly because we were afraid we would miss him. If he ever comes back, I hope to get better pictures. It doesn't take much to excite old folks...just the glimpse of a beautiful creature like this will do the trick!

Goldfinch

We got all excited today when we saw a few of these beautiful yellow birds at the feeder! Early this year we had a lot of these American Goldfinch feeding here but they were still a little drab. Now they have their summer feathers and are just spectacular! Maybe next time I can get a better picture of him.
