1986 david green

after just one season, the giants traded david green to the brewers in december of 1985.  here is his 1986 o-pee-chee card:

green was originally signed by the brewers way back in 1978.  he was traded to the cardinals in the big rollie fingers trade in 1980, and never played for the brew crew.  the second time around, he didn't play for them either, as he was released at the end of spring training.  he wound up playing in mexico and then japan before returning to the cardinals for a portion of the 1987 season.

i learned to rue the day of that trade, as the cardinals received jack clark in return.  green, meanwhile, took over for clark at first base in san francisco.  his first homer as a giant was a walk-off job, but he hit only 5 total - a far cry from the 15 he hit with the cardinals the previous season.  he also had just a .248 average while the giants lost 100 games.

it's worth noting that this card is one of the reasons i started this blog.  none of the card references i have indicate that this is a variation.  if i did not have the complete set, i wouldn't have known about its fantastic and colorful existence.
