1988 floyd bannister

floyd bannister was traded by the white sox to the royals in december of 1987.  here's his 1988 o-pee-chee card:

bannister spent two years in kansas city and made 45 appearances, all as a starter.  bannister would pitch strictly in relief for the angels in 1991 and the rangers in 1992 after spending the 1990 season pitching for the yakult swallows in japan. bannister's son brian is following in his footsteps, having pitched for the royals and now by heading to japan for the 2011 season.

1979 floyd bannister

former number 1 pick floyd bannister was traded from the astros to the mariners in december of 1978.  here's his 1979 o-pee-chee card:

with the m's, bannister was one of three pitchers on the 1979 staff to win at least 10 games.  unfortunately, he was also one of five mariners hurlers to lose at least 10 games that season.  still, he had a couple of 6-hit shutouts that year and he eventually became their number 1 starter before leaving for the greener grass of chicago.

1983 floyd bannister

1982 was a contract year for floyd bannister, and he made the most of it, leading the american league in strikeouts and being named to the all star team.  he signed with the white sox as a free agent that offseason, making his 1983 o-pee-chee card a team and text variation

bannister, the first overall pick in the 1976 draft, had his best season in 1983.  he won 16 games and finished second in the league in strikeouts, helping the white sox get to the postseason. in september he hurled another 'brilliant 2-hit shutout', but this time it was against his old team, the mariners.
