clark had joined the yankees as a free agent after his monster 1987 campaign.  with the pads, clark pretty much duplicated the numbers he had posted with the yankees in 1988.  he wound up leading the league in walks and finished 12th in the mvp vote.

1985 jack clark

jack clark was traded to the cardinals in february of 1985.  but you knew that because it's all there on his 1985 o-pee-chee card:
here's the topps front:

and the topps back:
clark had a devastatingly good 1985 season.  he helped the cardinals get to the playoffs and then, with first base open, killed the dodgers with a game winning home run in game 6.  he wound up hitting only .240 in the world series, however, and the cardinals lost to the royals in 7 games.  i believe clark was the one who fed the throw to todd worrell to lead off the 9th in game 6 that resulted in jorge orta being called safe.  and the rest is history.  while the cardinals won the title in 1987, clark was limited to a lone pinch-hit performance in the nlcs (he struck out) that year.
