1977 joe kerrigan

o-pee-chee used a more recent photo for joe kerrigan's 1977 card than topps had used, and they also moved his facsimile autograph slightly.  here is kerrigan's 1977 o-pee-chee card:

when i was a kid (heck, even now) i wanted to find ty cline's ice cream store.  va-va-voom!

as for kerrigan, he picked up 3 wins and 11 saves for the expos in 1977, and all of his wins came on different days, unlike in 1976 when he earned both of his wins for the season on the same day.  he was traded to the orioles after the season ended, but we already knew all about that.

1978 joe kerrigan

joe kerrigan was traded from the montreal expos to the baltimore orioles in december 1977. here's his 1978 o-pee-chee card:

a first round draft pick of the expos in 1974, kerrigan was traded with gary roenicke and don stanhouse for rudy may, randy miller, and bryn smith. he led the expos in saves in 1977, but the orioles used stanhouse as their primary closer in 1978. still, kerrigan managed 3 saves to go along with his 3 and 1 win loss record in 26 games.

unfortunately for kerrigan, he was relegated to the minor leagues for the 1979 season, and so didn't get to play in the world series against the pirates. he would pitch in just one game in 1980 for the o's, and it would be his final major league appearance, although he would play in the reds', rangers', and phillies' organizations over the following two years. kerrigan went on to coach with the expos after his playing days were done, followed by a stint as the red sox pitching coach on jimy williams' staff. he replaced williams as manager, but was fired and replaced by grady little after a switch in ownership. he is currently serving as the pirates' pitching coach.
