WWII Americans, Dwarf Rangers, Complete Randos, and some Water

Hello,

I've managed to finish some models.  I've actually painted far more, but I almost loath basing, so there might be a larger post in near future.

Here are some defunct Wargames Factory WW2 Americans.  I'm quite positive I painted them all wrong.

I accidently gave them one too many special weapons.

Here are twelve plastic GW LotR Dwarf rangers, without the round plastic bases.  Rangers are nice for Dragon Rampant, at least against me.

I didn't paint these guys I got off of TMP's Xenophon, but I did rebase them.

Here is an unknown Wargames Foundry soldier and a Rogue Trader era Robot.

I wish I knew what the Foundry model was; I've painted three of them.  The robot looks like a bug.

Here's a Mageknight model I rebased.  I only repainted the teeth, claws, and talon-things.  The sweat shop paint job was nice enough.

Please identify these models for me.  They were a gift from the wargames writer Ken Sidenblad.

Here's a water hole I made for a friend.

I could win a messy table contest.

Till next time when I should have Prussians, Germans, Russ, and some 40K stuff.

Much Love and Many Kisses,
Baconfat

Gameday 2014

Hello,

I didn't get a chance to post any painted mini picks this, but I did attend one of the two local miniature conventions, Gameday.  Here are a few pictures from some of the games a friend took.

A Darkest Africa game from the master of scenario design Dave.

A 15mm Napoleonics game with lots of well painted eye candy.

A medieval Japanese skirmish game with an incredible selection of buildings.

Part of a large WW2 aircraft battle, with amazing models

A well designed Sword and the Flame that had the players cheering.
A suprise for the players, zombies unexpectadly appear.
A pulp action adventure with an exciting prison break.
A really large sea battle, with untold quantities of ships.

A couple scenes from the biggest Flames of War game ever.

I used my trench table for the last time.
You can't tell but the burnign smoke clouds have flickering tea lights inside, to make them look like they're really burning.

Till Sunday, when I hope to have miniatures to show you.

Prussian Landwehr Cavalry, Americans for Flames of War, Manlets, and a Bad Pizza

Hello Dear Blog Viewer,

Today I finally finished a unit of Perry Prussian Landwehr cavalry.  They're good enough for gaming.  You'll notice the lack of the little flags, or fanions, or whatever they're called.  I dislike attaching them very much so.

Running from the scary castle.

Don't look at their faces, I may have overdone the wash.
Only three of my eleven Prussian cavalry units remain left to be painted:  Ulhans, Dragoons, and Death Head Hussars.

Here's a size comparison with a Wargames Foundry Landwehr.  It appears to me it is also sculpted by Alan Perry, as well.   I wonder if he's the one with only 1 1/2 arms.  Regardless, I'm going to add a one armed Perry brother to my next artillery crew.

My color continuity is abysmal.  I think the jackets are different colors and I can't make up my mind what color paint makes the best spears.  If you look at my bases, no two units ever seem to have the same color dirt.

Next up are some more American troops for Flames of War.  The models are made by Command Decision.  Command Decision minis can be purchased for half the price of Battle Front's minis, by buying them from Old Glory.  They're even cheaper at a web site called War Web.

Here they are running away.  They actually lost their first two battles last weekend.    I played in a tournament;  tournaments aren't as fun as I thought they'd be, go go go, quick games, too much quick thinking.

Here's a size comparison with official Flames of War minis on the left.  Command Decision look more anatomically correct, but the chunkier Flames of War minis have a nice look, as well as being easy to paint.  And with FoW minis, you don't have to make your own bases.

Next up, I based some manlets painted aways back.  They look ugly as I was experimenting with different dip techniques on them.   They'll do as I really don't stress out on painting pieces of wood.

Here's most of my manlets shielding cowardly crossbowmen.

pew, pew, pew, pew, pew

At this angle the castle looks empty

Here's some junk for city fight debris piles:  A Mac, a microwave, a pizza, and a beat up little toaster.

Till next time, when I hope to bring you more bad grammar, Prussian infantry, a few turn of the century Africans, and maybe even some Space Marines.  By not having any sort of painting plan, I practice good Operational Security while painting; the enemy must not know your plans.

Love,
Baconfat

I TOLD YOU NOT TO LOOK AT THIER FACES!!!!!!!!!!!!

Perry Burgundian Handgunners, Some Appliances, and First Flames of War Game

Welcome,

Today I've got a small unit of plastic Perry Burgundian handgunners painted.  I've based them singly but will magnetize their bases for games requiring larger bases.  60 more points for the Not Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge.

Here's what they'll probably look like on the battlefield, running away

Here's a little bit of junky homemade post-apocalyptic furniture and appliances, two plastic metal legged chairs and a thoroughly beaten up washer and dryer set.

a trooper putting his gun down so he can wash his dirty clothes
I played my first Flames of War (FoW) game ever and took pictures with the plan of an AAR.  Sadly I didn't know what was going on, my camera sucks, the photographer is even worse,  and the flgs Active Imagination was kind of dark.  Regardless the battle was so chaotic I don't think I could have explained it very well.

Here's what it looked like before everyone died
Some German Anti-aircraft guns that were shooting my infantry as they were attacked by colored cotton

Tanks blew up and disappeared like musical chairs

a blurry pic near the end of the battle, I've managed to kill all my offensive vehicles and spread my infantry all over the place for no good reason

FoW is quite fun, something I didn't expect.  Afterwards, I broke down and bought a FoW starter box set called "Open Fire".

Till next week, when I'll have some Egyptian marine slingers and some more junk.

WW2 Americans and Three Little Pigs

Hello,

For Baconfat's first "Not Analogue Hobbies Painting Challenge" entry we have a small unit of late war U.S. soldiers, produced by Wargames Factory.    50 points
The kit allows for BARs, Thompsons, Grease guns, 1911s.

The terrible box art appears that the men are wearing the tan jackets from earlier US uniforms.

Pointless size comparison pic:

Wizkids, Wargames Factory, GW

Speaking ofBaconfat, here are three 20mm pigs on integral bases.
Left to right:   Large Black,  Sandy and Black, Gloucestershire Old Spot  +12 points

And a couple dirty mattresses for pigs to sleep on during post apocalyptic games.  0 points

So Baconfat has an early lead in points with 62 points!  I see Bacon has pulled their fat out of the fire and now I fully expect Baconfat to pull through and win the challenge.

Next week will be some Perry Burgundian Mercenaries.
