 "Homestead"
The rustic colors and textures of the Dreamer/Domestic Goddess Collections from 7 Dots Studio paired with the browns from the Steampunk Sepia mist and Midnight Copper embossing powder from Lindy's Stamp Gang were perfection when it came to scrapping this photo of my back porch. I love the old-timey feel of this portion of my house, it reminds me so much of a couple of the buildings from my favorite childhood home :)

"Extraordinary You": Magnifique Mixed Media "Autumnal Bliss" Kit~!

Good morning everybody! I'm here with you today to give you one last look at the Magnifique Mixed Media November Kit "Autumnal Bliss", released by C'est Magnifique Kits. My sister Kelly Foster and I have really enjoyed our time with this kit, from the very first planning stages to putting the final touches on our projects. We've appreciated the excitement and feedback received as well! And we look forward to continuing to offer inspiring, media-filled unique kits that will help you to grow in your mixed media knowledge and love :)

Today, I created a layout using this beautiful kit.

"Extraordinary You"
I really wanted to use as many of the mediums available in this kit, which meant combing all of the warm, rich colors in a balanced way. I used the "Mini Ceiling Tile" mask and Gelatos as the starting point in my project by basically "coloring" with them (over the mask) and then spritzing over top before blending with a wipe. This helps the Gelatos spread a little easier.

For my background paper, I used the "Dreamer" Collection from 7 Dots Studio. It had the perfect hint of color to compliment the color scheme of my layout.

After zapping the masked area with a heat gun, I used some light modeling paste along with the mask and some embossing powder and created additional texture in that way. Then I'm ready to add the Twinkling H2Os, in just a small amount so as not to overpower the rest of the layout. I simply pour a drop on top of the embossed area and use my spatula to carefully spread it around. Allow to dry on its own in order to keep the vibrancy of the colors (the heat tool can cause the watercolor to spread, thin out, and fade). In contrast, if you're wanting to tone down the color, you can spritz with water and/or pull up some of the color by dabbing with a wipe.

Thank-you for visiting today! Stay tuned for the first look at our upcoming December MMM Kit! :)

"Farm Girl": A Layout for 7 Dots Studio

Good morning!! It's a brand new week, and I'd like to start it off with a project :) I'm up on the 7 Dots Studio blog today with a sweet layout created for my daughter:

"Farm Girl"
love that the Messy Head and Domestic Goddess collections came together here for a super girly layout of my daughter. Fun imagery from Domestic Goddess was paired with the urban elements of Messy Head, making for a truly enjoyable creative experience!

We were also given the opportunity to create with VLV Stamps this month. I had fun scattering the Hearts and Dots background stamp, and using the Film Strip stamp to accentuate the center strip that runs through my layout. Thank-you to VLV for the opportunity to use these amazing stamps!!

7 Dots Studio: October Projects!

I'm back again today :)
(did you miss me? ha!)

I have a couple of 7 Dots Studio projects to share. And they were a challenge (to myself)- no flowers! Uh-oh...
don't worry.
I'm okay with them. Let's see what you think!
"Truth"
I really enjoyed this particular verse and it inspired me to create in my art journal (which I've set aside for a bit lately). It felt good to start and complete a project with no intended direction- I just went with it. And I'm happy. It's real...
genuine...
faith inspired.
I can't ask for anything more!

Messy Head: Elements 6x12
Messy Head: Elements 12x12

All I Ever: Elementals 12x12

Next, a card...and a simple one!
"Something Special"
I started this card with the "You are my whole world." card from the Messy Head collection, and built it from there. I love mixing colors and textures and just seeing where it all takes me. I never really know where I'll end up- and though this card is a bit "tame" for me, I loved it simplicity. Perfect for expressing the message I wanted to convey.

7 Dots Studio: "Memories" Challenge

It's time to reveal the newest challenge over at 7 Dots Studio. And this time around, it's all about the "Memories"...however you would like to interpret that...whatever it inspires.

For me, it triggered the need to scrap about my dad. Most of you know that I lost him when I was 13 years old and it is a loss which I still struggle with to this day...and never gets easier. But taking the time to scrap about him gives me the opportunity to reflect on my memories of him; the type of person he was, his funny personality, what a great dad he was- despite his downfalls. I try my best to hold on to the good memories and cultivate them so that I can one day share them with my children...

"Remember Forever"
I found comfort in the warm, rich fall colors inspired by the changing season upon us. Red is most certainly not my usual color, but it was okay here. I accepted it and went forward :)

I began with the Domestic Goddess collection, which I've loved since the day it was released! Such a beautiful line!

I am loving playing with texture and color. So rewarding :)

I've discovered that I love book pages once again. I used to use them all the time...then not at all...and again I find myself reaching for them every time. So watch out...when an obsession strikes, I can't help myself!

Take care and have a GREAT weekend!!

7 Dots Studio: An Art Journal Page

Good morning :)

Here today with you to share an art journal page I created for 7 Dots Studio, using the classic "Dreamer" collection. I used to be quite good at drawing in my younger years but admittedly haven't touched the art for quite some time now. But inspired by a beautiful photo found on Pinterest HERE, I found the courage to draw again and even embark on some watercolor painting.

I had no design in mind, nor did I ever think this page would find its way onto the internet. I didn't know what I was doing. But when I used the "Dreamer" collection papers to bring the trunk in the page to life, I just knew I had to be brave...just show it.

So here goes.

"Mason Jars" Art Journal Page
It was a little tricky getting the papers to line up correctly and look believable, but a little bit of adjustments and I got there :)

Gosh, I just LOVE the rustic, life-like patterns of these papers. I could not have found a more suitable collection for bringing this aspect of my page to life. Just meant to be! I did use some burlap twine to define the edges of the trunk in the front, along with some watercolor shading. I really had to distress, move, and shape these papers to get them to do what I wanted.

The angles were tough on me! And choosing the correct colors for the edges of the box took a moment as well.

And boy, I struggled with bringing the mason jars to life being a "flat" object against the three-dimensional paper trunk. Lots of shading, recoloring, tinting, etc.- it came together...slowly. Frustrating but at the same time exciting and encouraging!

"Dreamer" Collection: Drive All Night
"Dreamer" Collection: Daydreaming

Thank-you for allowing me ot share with you today. I hope you're having a wonderful week so far :)
Take care and see you REAL soon!

Blue Fern Studios Sketch Challenge~!

Good morning and welcome to September! What does September mean for you? For my family, it means hunting season is beginning (my husband is a bear hunting guide and bear hunting season opens today!), the majority of the garden harvesting happens this month, apple season is just around the corner, and so is Fall. Cooler temps, baking, and bring on the holidays because HERE they come!

This is the busiest time of the year for me and it doesn't slow down until after Christmas. It's also the time that we start scrambling to prepare for winter because from here on out, you just never know when the white stuff (a.k.a. SNOW) is going to fly!

But guess what? I can stop rambling to you here and save you the details...because I've finally slapped together a makeshift blog for my hobby farm life- if you like hearing my tales, you can read much more about them HERE at my Yellow Birch Hobby Farm blog :). I understand that many of you like to come to a scrappy blog and hear nothing but scrap, right? But some of you like the details behind the designer, and you can get more of those details at my new blog. Not that I'll stop sharing here- although I DO try to keep it at minimum ;). Just thought I'd do a little shameless plug to try and get my new blog off the ground ;)

OKAY! Back to business. It's time for a new sketch challenge at Blue Fern Studios- and can you believe it- I played along this month. What's even BETTER is that BFS has teamed up with 7 Dots Studio and the teams have had a swap! Meaning the BFS team will be using 7 Dots products on their projects this month and the 7 Dots team will be featuring BFS products. Pretty cool!

"La-la-la-la-Lola"
So...I just couldn't help myself on the title. This little chickie is my favorite hen in my flock. Her name (obviously) is Lola and she is the sweetest little princess. She entertains a pretty serious love affair with my head rooster Rusty...I even "caught" them in the nest box together the other day. And since roosters certainly do not lay eggs...he really had no business in that nest box ;)! Lol- it gave me a good laugh, that's for sure! ;)

But enough about chickens (you can read all about them at my new blog LOL- seriously, I'm laughing at my promotion as it feels kinda funny)- here's the sketch this month over at BFS:

As always, feel free to flip/turn/mirror the sketch to suit you. I've rotated this sketch one turn to the right.

I've used a few of the newer BFS chipboard pieces here. Above is the Spring Branch, and in the bottom right I've used a couple of sprigs from the All Natural Set. All just gorgeous pieces!!

From 7 Dots Studio I've used the Messy Head collection by Olga Heldwein, which you know very well by now how much I love! :)

Products Used:

Spring Branch

All Natural Set

Thanks for coming on over! Have a wonderful day :)

Once Upon A...Sketch: September Sketch Challenge Reveal!

Good morning!

It's time to reveal to you the latest challenge over at Once Upon A...Sketch!

As you know, every month OUAS provides you with not only an amazing sketch, but a motivating journaling prompt. This month is no different- just take a look at what you've got to work wtih!

Journaling Theme: Luck

Your layout must incorporate this theme and the sketch below.
Please make sure that we see some sort of journalling on your layouts and please tell us where your journalling is . You are allowed to journal in any language but please tell us where on your page we will find your journalling. Remember journalling has to be a bit more than a title, or a generic comment. Hidden journalling is perfectly fine.

I created a layout sample for this challenge. When I first saw the sketch, I thought- OOH! Three photos...three kids...I know how lucky I am to have them. Even printed pictures of the kids and was ready to start. But then I thought of how much time I've spent recently reflecting on what an amazing husband I have- and it's been a while since I've scrapped him, so I went that direction instead ;)

"Lucky Me"
I have the perfect package of a husband: loving, hard working, funny, patient, amazing father, understanding...I really wish for everyone to find someone like him. Before him, I thought it was normal to fight and say terrible things to one another. But in our almost 7 years he has never said anything even remotely mean to me- and I don't even think we've ever had a real "fight". We've bickered a few times- but he is so laid-back (whereas I'm NOT) and when I get piped up, he just stays calm. As I was creating this layout, I had a particular Martina McBride song stuck in my head. There's a line in it that says:

"When there's dark clouds in my eyes, he just sits back and let 'em roll on by. Come in like a lion, go out like a lamb...my baby loves me just the way that I am."

SO true for Josh and I! I'm the hot head- and he accepts and loves me for it regardless.

When choosing the color pop for this layout, I'd originally thought blue. Josh peeked in a few times to see what I'd decided on, and was surprised to see I'd gone with yellow. I figured I haven't used it in a while, so why not?

I've used just a ton of Prima products on this one- even digging in my stash for some of the older stuff. The stamps are from the Printery collection, which is one of my all-time favorites. And what do you think of the new Ingvild Bolme pieces? I just LOVE the little steering wheel from the Car Parts pack- way too adorable!

Oh, Josh desperately wanted me to use one of the spark plug pieces- he thought they were manly enough for him ;) And I wanted to do that for him...but I just couldn't find the "right" one/fit. But when I noticed the word "Luck" on one of the Vintage Water Taps- I knew I had the perfect embellishment!
