PaperHaus: "This IS My Smile"~!

Good morning! I know I've bombarded you with posts this past week- and it's not letting up yet ;) So bear with me...

At the same time, I've been a bit absent. Still canning away and there are so many projects at hand with winter likely hitting us in a month or so...I'm barely getting by at this point. But thanks for always hanging in there with me, it's truly appreciated.

Today I have a fun layout to share with you that I created for PaperHaus. As I look back on the last several months' worth of photos of my kids, not only is it difficult to find a photo of my Gunner LOOKING at the camera, but it is pretty much impossible to get one of him smiling. He thinks that by my asking him to smile, I somehow mean I want him to show me an open mouth, his teeth, or his tongue- or a combination of all three, ha! But never...never a smile :(. But that's just him- he smiles and laughs all day long- but once that camera is out, it's game over.

SO- I decided to embrace this fault and create a layout about it :)

"This IS My Smile"
I've really enjoyed playing around with layers of different mediums lately! I generally start by placing some paper layers and then applying a coat of gesso. After that- it's game on! On this particular layout, I followed that up by applying (randomly) some blue acrylic paint over top of the gesso. Then came some scattered stamping with distress ink. Next I applied some masking (using light modeling paste) and created some dimension by sprinkling on some embossing powder and setting with a heat gun. On top of that I brushed on some watercolors and just a touch of mist. All set for photo and cluster work!

PaperHaus: Collaging on Canvas

Hi everyone :). Hope you are well, wherever you are. I'm winding down after a long, hot, busy day to share with you a canvas that I created for the PaperHaus magazine blog

"Love Art" Canvas
Now, I would definitely not call myself an artist- but I sure do love playing around with art :). As a child, I dreamed of becoming an artist; obviously that didn't happen, but it sure is nice to explore that early passion through this craft.

I don't think the love of playing with colors ever leaves us from childhood ;)

I've been playing around with my "messier" me. If you remember my works from about a year ago, I was much more unorganized in my projects- and sometimes, that can be liberating. Finding the balance between messiness and cleanliness isn't easy...but it's coming along :).

Doing collage work is awesome because you can literally just grab some scraps and go!

Would you like to see how I went about creating my background? If so, I've put together some steps for you...

**I personally love the catalog pages idea! Who doesn't have piles of that type of junkmail just laying around? I know I do...so nice to do something with it, right??**

**I used gel medium, although you can use gesso too**

**You don't have to use a palette knife. A credit card, scrap of paper, or your fingers works great as well**

PaperHaus: Layered Tag Tutorial

Good morning!

The weekend is just beginning in my part of the world, and it's the time of year that is very busy for me. It's berry season- blueberries right now and raspberries shortly to come. That means hours spent picking, cleaning, sorting, baking, canning, and freezing. And I LOVE it. It's also time for the garden to be harvested. The peas are ready, the tomatoes will be turning any day which means homemade spaghetti sauce, salsa, and canned tomatoes for chili this winter. Hunting season is on its way, as is apple harvest time- which means more and more canning. Love it.

So before I venture off into berry picking land today, I want to share with you a layered tag tutorial that I put together for PaperHaus. I hope you enjoy :)

"Love" Shabby Layered Tag
A lot of people like to know how I go about assembling my tags. I do follow a pretty basic structure, so let me walk you through my step-by-step:

Mask: Heidi Swapp

Accordion Album Tutorial for PaperHaus!

Hello :). I hope you've all had a great weekend! We were busy all day Saturday with Gunner's 3rd birthday party and I'm pretty tired- but it was lots of fun, pretty stress-free, but always leaving me a tiny bit sad that the day is over and that my little guy is growing up. Okay, so more than a "tiny bit sad"...it's a feeling I stuff away so it doesn't affect the day- but after the kids are in bed and I'm alone with my thoughts, the realization of how quickly the past three years has gone simply terrifies me.

But before I get any heavier here, let's move on to a project that I created for another amazing 3-year old; Gunner's cousin Lilah who was born exactly 4 weeks before him :). I made an accordion album for the PaperHaus magazine blog, and I've got some step-by-steps on how you can put one together too!

So let's begin :)

"Lilah Accordion Album"

I had a long piece of cardboard that I'd been hanging on to for just this sort of project.

**The dimensions of my album are: 21.5" long and 4.75" tall**

Here are some detailed closeups too!
